i pride my self on the cleanliness of my shop, and well aware of any risk to Health and Safety,at the same time making the shave an Experience it should be. Scully
For some reason this has always been one of my fav barber videos. 2008 video quality, not very many asmr sounds, and didn't use a straight razor. But for some reason, I've always loved it. Btw, totally crazy to me that this is eight years old.
My husband goes here every month! The shop has gone through some changes and it looks amazing. Ian Scullion is possibly the best barber in Lincoln. His wife Irena has just opened Bouquet a beautiful florest and tea room across the road where I can get a Cappuccino in a great environment!
I cannot belive this is available in Lincoln!! I live here and did not realise the traditional barber still exists. My husband will be so happy. So am I! No more worries about Christmas and Brithday pressies....
I've just been for a shave like this and I can honestly say that it's the best shave I have EVER had. The whole experience was incredibly relaxing and the finished product was a perfect shave. Thanks Ian!
Excellent video. Quite a touch with the music themes if I may.The barber is a true English man, kind and friendly. His moves look like an artist's work. 5/5, cheers to all...
I had a fantastic towel shave and a haircut at the Scullion barbers in Lincoln. Ian is an excellent Baber it made the process so relaxing and enjoyable eI highly recoment the experience Stav Melides
I've brought this shave for my Dad for his birthday today. When i rang up to ask about the shave Ian was really nice on the phone and said he did gift vouchers. When i went to buy it and i walked in the door i thought the place was just amazing. Just what i had imagined. The gift voucher is pretty too. We live in Lincoln and there is 1 other place that does this wet shave but i doesn't look anywhere near as nice as Ian's place and i wasn't impressed with them on the phone. A great gift i think.
Scullion, you are a genius. Ill call in some time and tell you I've watched this video, because its things like this that really make my day. Thanks for the Vid! Josh.
there needs to be more barbers like this inn the uk theres a huge market for barbers who shave i dont no why the void isnt being filled quite sad realy theres nothing better than a pro shave !
The issue of straight razor versus modern safety razors continues to be discussed here. I had a professional barber shave my head with a straight razor a while back. When I got home my wife was disturbed that he had cut the top of my head several times with the razor. Needless to say I've never gone back, and I now have a very cautious attitude towards straight razors. It appears that Scullion gives a superbly comfortable and safe shave with the razors he has chosen.
It's a very fine establishment Ian, and you are a fine barber, no doubt you are very skilled in wet shaving that you can get a good shave using good lather, shaving brush, pre shave products and even a Mach 3 cartridge razor. Well done sir, if I'm ever in Lincolnshire, I should pay you a visit.
Hexo, I used to have the same problem until the advent of the Mach 3. I have moved on to the Fusion now as it provides an even smoother shave. Best of luck.
Many traditional barber's have done away with straight razors due to the risk of infection. With the right technique, preparation, etc, the same can be achieved with a modern razor. Great job here.
I find the most important aspect of the traditional shave is the use of a good brush and cream as opposed to the gels/foams you get at the supermarket. I alternate between a Merkur DE and Gillette Sensor Excel (2 blades) and I can get a great shave with both as long as the prep and lather is done correctly. So there's nothing wrong with using a Mach 3 in my experience but there is something nice about a Barber wielding a cutthroat.
Sure do! It's Truefitt & Hill's Pre-shave Oil. It does smell nice and works pretty well, however, very expensive. $30 American for a small bottle. The Pacific Shave Company makes a shave oil that's just as good for a mere fraction of the cost.
Complaining about a dirty sink? Jesus Christ, it's a barber shop, the sink is used all the time for all sorts of things.... he's not dumping urine in it or something. The shave looks awesome and professionally done. I would gladly pay for a shave from Scully.
Hi dj I use a mach 3 for health and safety reasons, at the end of the day a blade is a blade, gillette would not invest hundreds of millions of dollars on something that did not work!. I pride myself on my shaves, I get just as close if not closer than most straight blades. if you are ever in Lincoln, call in and see for your self. best wishes Scullion the Barber.
A question to the barber: why does the E45 treatment come before the after shave? I thought it would make more sense to use the antiseptic first (with the pores still open and with no cream in them), and the creams afterwards, but there's for sure a certain motive for that order... Apart from that: I won't tell a professional barber how to do his job, but I'm very skeptical about Gillette's investments. I really shave myself better with a DE-Blade (let alone the straight).
Does anyone know the make of the Pre-shave oil the Barber in this video uses? I've experimented with some cheap oils and even just olive oil and I defiantly helps with my shave. I would like to try a good oil that smells like tangerines. Any help?
I want to get clarification on this myself. By the looks for things, the barber favors Truefitt & Hill shaving products. I believe he's using an Edwin Jagger silvertip brush, T&H pre-shave oil, and I'm guessing T&H West Indian Limes cologne for the sting & slap. I don't think T&H has an atomizer spray for the aftershave, but they do for the cologne. So that's my guess. Not sure what cream he's using.
In terms of end results, I doesn't really matter as long as the preparation is excellent, but you are right when it comes to the loss of charm from and old fashioned barber shave
- sorry about double reply??? so we would still be using cuthroats , so I hope this answers all your questions. I have also been told that the steel in the modern day cuthroats with interchangeable blades is the same as the mach 3, if Gillette would like to comment on this??? and to finish, the art of a good shave is the preparation and the products used... I hope this has been of some use to you all , and thanks for all your comments ..Ian Scullion.
If there was more hugs and kisses in society the world would be a better place................................... This an informative video on wet shaving. it was a dying trade, and pioneers like myself are trying to revive it.
I can promise you Ian is a genuine guy and not in the least bit queer! His wife is beautiful and my husband has been going to Scullions for years. We now class him and Irena as 2 of our best friends. I think you should pop in and have a wet shave, you will change your opinion in minutes and you will have a great shave! Give it a go!
Hot towels open up your pores. That's why it's recommended you shave after a hot shower, because you're pores will be open. And then after you shave you should splash cold water on your face to kill the bacteria and close up your pores.
@scully6000 Nice to see the man himself commenting. Obviously, I have no idea where you trained, but I've seen on videos and heard from customers that the sink lathering method is used by Trumpers, who are just about the top people as I understand it, so that should end the worries.
@sausag3onthefloor I understand that, but I've never heard about E45 before, I just want to know if anyone has any information on that specific product
Hi greeterboy it is t&h westindian limes cologne, using a kent brush silver tip and the cream is e45, atomised wil cologne, hope this is some help. best wishes Scullion
To those seemingly ignorant shavers out there, the razor this barber is using is not just an ordinary Mach 3. While it uses Mach 3 blades, the razor is specially designed and weighted. The handle is thick, heavy and gives a precise shave. It may have cost hundreds of dollars. This in addition to a top notch shaving brush and all the prep work will easily make a shave as close or closer than a straight razor shave.
Call that a slap? Nah just kidding, looks fantastic. Wish we had him here in Oz, I'd be in there every week. Must admit I was expecting a straight razor, saw one there on his counter.
Ok, so you're saying that running a blade over the face causes infections etc. So, if this is true, 3 blades running over the face would be even worse then wouldn't they? I agree about the replacement blade aspect of barber shaving, however I feel a shavette would be a superior choice of razor than a mach 3. The reason he is using a mach 3 is because he is less likely to cut a customer's skin with it, and a barber who frequently cuts skin will frequently lose customers.
@rahhughes The barbers I have been to in developed countries use a shavette. Even in most developing countries (China, Nepal, India) they stopped using real straight razors.
Good video but I wish they'd used the same piano music throughout the entire video. Make the experience a lot more relaxing. This video is good for mellowing out to after a long day.
Great video, the only questionable part is where it looks like Scullion is going for a kiss on the cheek at the start, and then last minute it turns into a man-hug.
HI people The reason i use a mach3 is for comfort, speed and safety, we are all romantic about the Cutthroat razor, clint eastwood, alcapone, but the reality is the insurance premium is so high for a little barber shop like myself it does not make sense, ihave been traind on a cutthroat but chose not to use it for those reasons, at the end of the day i will shave you just as close, if not closer with the mach3. gillete would not have spent millions of dollars in research on something ,tbc..
I doubt health regs will let them do true straight shaves these days. Even so, looks like a through and professional job, and unlike the 'boutique' places, probably affordable.
Many don't know this, but this was one of the first barber shave videos on UA-cam. Hearing the music brings back so many memories.
Yes it does! Glad it survived all these years.
Bro I used to watch this before going to work lmao
i pride my self on the cleanliness of my shop, and well aware of any risk to Health and Safety,at the same time making the shave an Experience it should be.

ivjdivfjalekvvjp ...ive watched this for years. Pre "ASMR" but unintentional asmr is the best.
Wow. Now 10 years old. One of the original UA-cam barber videos.
Yup, found my old playlist from way back when... Talk about a time warp. Hard to find these old ones without a bookmark.
No lie I have been watching this video for 13 years this is one of the best ASMR vids on UA-cam, thank you for over a decade of relaxation
I love watching this video. I watch it very often, usually before bed time, it just relaxes me.....I can't explain why, it's awesome.....
My husband goes here every month! The shop has gone through some changes and it looks amazing. Ian Scullion is possibly the best barber in Lincoln. His wife Irena has just opened Bouquet a beautiful florest and tea room across the road where I can get a Cappuccino in a great environment!
This video got me through my first year of sobriety 14 years ago. Thank you.
I cannot belive this is available in Lincoln!!
I live here and did not realise the traditional barber still exists.
My husband will be so happy.
So am I! No more worries about Christmas and Brithday pressies....
I enjoyed the random hair combing at the end.
I've just been for a shave like this and I can honestly say that it's the best shave I have EVER had. The whole experience was incredibly relaxing and the finished product was a perfect shave. Thanks Ian!
Is it weird that I like to watch videos like this before I sleep? There just so relaxing and puts me in the mood to sleep.
This is the OG of ASMR videos for me.
Bodacious! Love these mellow shaving videos! So cool and relaxing to watch!
Excellent video. Quite a touch with the music themes if I may.The barber is a true English man, kind and friendly. His moves look like an artist's work. 5/5, cheers to all...

Nothing beats a barber shop shave.

That barber was such a nice man!
If barbers around my city shaved like that I would get shaves there. That was a proper shave.
Thanks for posting. I always wanted to see it done professionally.
This is how you prepare for a proper shave. Really nice!
im getting one tomorrow after seeing this. Ive always done it myself but there is nothing like a old fashion shave
Great barber. I just can't get enought to watch this video.
Scullion, you are a genius. Ill call in some time and tell you I've watched this video, because its things like this that really make my day. Thanks for the Vid!

never gone for a shave before.... looks so relaxing. might have to try it some time
Omg, can't believe I found this. This guy is my new barber, he cut my hair a couple of times recently and I was impressed.

fantastic video! Great barber!
A fine artist and gentleman. I enjoyed this video and envy the young man in it!
Awesome pre and post shave procedure.
That's one professional looking shop.
The OG ASMR barber video, I watched this after a night of RuneScape lol
One other question, is that T&H colonge spray or aftershave spray that is used during the Sting & Slap phase?
excellent video!
I wish this guy was my barber.
very nice guy. This is an extremely enjoyable video to watch
why are these so relaxin?!?
"Cracking"
"Yeh it's cracking"
"Yes I certainly am"

Overall this barber is amazing. If I ever win the lotto, I would see him weekly!
Many traditional barber's have done away with straight razors due to the risk of infection. With the right technique, preparation, etc, the same can be achieved with a modern razor. Great job here.
If this is Scully (the barber) what type of pre shave oil is used in this video?
what is that aftershave cream used before the sting and slap?
nice. will have to check this place out next time im in lincoln. anyone know where it is?
Excellent response.
Whats the name of the song as he sits in the chair? Please? Its so relaxing.

@VatsimSky WHY YOU DONT USE A STRAIGHT RAZOR BLADE?!
What exactly is the purpose of the sting and slap?
Neat!! He's a very good barber!! :D

Agreed. Where is the straight edge?
Hi greeterboy
it is t&h westindian limes cologne, using a kent brush silver tip and the cream is e45, atomised wil cologne, hope this is some help.
best wishes Scullion
Go on my favourites mate, its soley dedicated to what you have just said, all the clips I have will relax you. Try it! :)
This was ASMR before anyone knew what it was
Yeah, when I go get a haircut at my barber he always finishes up will a straight razor to clean everything up. Never gotten a shave there though.
I have tried wet shaving in the past but electric razors suit my skin a lot better. :S
THE BEST

West Indian Limes. It's a Truefitt and Hill Cologne scent.
i wish we had one of these around where i live, a MENS barbershop where guys can be guys lol
man i wish you'ld bring your business to the states lol
Awe man! I was hoping this barber would use cut throat razor to shave his client! That wiuld have been awesome!

exactly. they shave it off to spare themselves the unsightly patchy beard.
Does anyone know what 'E45" cream is?
