If RTD is trying to annoy by messing with canon, I'm afraid the joke's on him as I don't regard anything post-89 as canon anyway. It's all fan-fic, and more latterly, spite-fic. The only canon worth a damn is the original series. So he can do what he likes, though I think that, for a supposed successful professional, he does come across more as a pathetic loser and attention seeking child than anything else. "Look at me! Comic con events nowadays are robbing fans blind. I used to get autos for 10 and £20. Hammer stars, Classic Dr Who stars. As recently as 2017. The rates now are ludicrously over priced. And remember, this is a show that wants to attract a young audience .... a very rich young audience obviously.
I've certainly got a handful of autos for free, a Tom Baker book signing and individual Who star events for example. At multi star cons I would always expect to pay for an auto of a chosen celeb, but prices now are shocking. And to be charging those prices for ONE person. These major events are a day out for a lot of youngsters and £125 used to be about the budget for a whole day, not so long ago. Shame 😞
Speaking of Death to the Daleks in my head canon the 'Dalek Vision' parts where we were looking out of the eye stalks were that 'manual backup' method of vision. Remember the Evil City was sucking out all the power so probably affected the vision as well as the gun. So the little mutant was forced to climb up the casing and physically putting its eye on the other end of the vision tube. Probably. Been my head canon at any rate.
I blame Moffat for all the gender changing rubbish. Moffat has a lot to answer for, another limited hack. Davis, Moffat and Chibnel AKA Larry, Curly and Mo.
The gender swap personally doesn't bother me because the Doctor is an alien anyway I can accept that but if this was James Bond different situation but I do blame Moffat for another reason like messing up with the Doctor's incarnation numbers like retconning in an unknown incarnation like The War Doctor as great as an actor John Hurt was it should had been Paul McGann and have him regenerate into Eccleston and it would had felt like a true continuation then further making the meta-crisis Doctor a regeneration if it wasn't for that the Fugitive Doctor or the Timeless Doctors would never had happened and they wouldn't had retconned in the Shalka Doctor the showrunners have mucked the show up far too much they need to find a showrunner with better care and whose not a fan.
Ah, Moffat is writing the Xmas show... to answer my own question, I don't think the companion will be zapped. They'd be foolish to close the door on a popular actress who might return one day.
We may not have had wokeness in the 80s but we did have political correctness, for example, Michael Grade took exception to a BBC xmas season i-dent that depicted three snowman, complaining "why are there no snowwomen". I would say that what we are calling "woke" is for the most part the "intersectional feminism" that was heavily propagandised around 2012-2014. It's not true to say there was nothing like it in the 80s, Ben Elton killed Benny Hill's career by accusing him of contributing to a culture of sexual assault. It is a lot worse now. There was a period between the late 90s until about 2012, during which political correctness really lost it's power, and then it resurged with a vengeance around 2012. What made 80s identity politics fairly mild in comparison, is it usually represented a minority (the exception is possibly feminism where women are of course a majority, but not by a significant margin) which meant that they could never go so far as to totally alienate the outgroup because the outgroup outnumbered them. But with intersectionalism the opponent is a minority made up of the intersections of the majorities. And the so-called "translesbians" are actually heterosexual men (most probably white) managing to opt out of being part of the dreaded intersection of majorities. Eddie Izzard did a joke about this in the early 90s that proved so prophetic given his trajectory. The bit he did was about being a white middle class male heterosexual in a left wing bookshop and feeling increasingly guilty as each section designated by different branches of identity politics made him one of the bad guys - the punchline was "then I think 'thank god I am a transvestite'". He is saying the quiet part out loud there; admitting that being a member of a victim group is advantageous emotionally because it offers an escape or reprieve from viewing oneself as the oppressor. He is also admitting he suffered a lot od guilt for his innate characteristics.
