    The 1990s saw the BBC regain its hold on Saturdays with Noel's House Party, Big Break and the Lottery show. Perhaps Doctor Who could have returned to its old home in that lineup?

    Fantastic headline show , as always . Proof positive , from their own fan sites, that RTD2's Who is the worst version of the show EVERR , it's absolute shite, bad writing, bad casting . Series 15 will be more of the same, ..possibly even worse.

    Another great instalment. In particular, I fully agree about the Gaiman situation. Regardless of what the writer has, or has not, done, a knee-jerk removal of his contributions to Doctor Who (or any show) is akin to book burning, a completely inappropriate response which, by being wholly undemocratic, heaps further controversy upon the situation. Many thanks, JT, Paul, and Ian. All the best for now. Paul

    RTD needs to stay away from Classic Who he can do what he likes with his own version but he should leave Classic Who out of it and make up his own cheap villains instead of trying to retcon classic villains into something their not. I refuse to watch "Space Babies" again it's that embarrassing once was enough for me. I love watching your channel your the most honest panel going while all the others like confused adipose, sesskasays and some other reactors are too scared to say it's crap. Matrixlord212 believes it's a success and a season 3 is happening but i can't see it myself.

    The people who are running the show no longer know what the DNA of the show is. They have butchered its lore to fit their new view of what the show should be about and it hasn't worked. Modern fans aren't interested and older fans are horrified. Let's see how well the latest Season 7 Collection boxset sells. My bet is very well. Why? Because it's proper Dr. Who. Quality stories packed full of good ideas. Any messages are subtle and are subservient to a rollicking good story. Cancel it and let it rest before it's ruined beyond saving.

    The Regeneration sequences should be LEFT ALONE. Having watched since 1971, I've had a healthy scepticism toward each new Dr which really kicked into gear when Mr Davison appeared on the scene until I warmed to them. Paul McGann was brilliant and had so much potential. From 2005 onwards... I didn't like Tennant, Eccleston I wish had stayed longer (we all know why he left), Matt Smith was awesome, Capaldi was just superb but could have been given better scripts, Jodie........ nahhhh, Gatwa...... just forget it. He's NOT worth my spit

    A great chit chat. So much to unpack from the topics discussed. Has anyone officially asked RTD2 WHY he insists on dividing the Fan base/audience by intentionally using the show as a platform for activism. Catering for new fans?? What happened to being INCLUSIVE Russ??? Did the death of his Husband scramble his eggs? JT you make me laugh with the "ist, phobs and ots...." sounds like a firm of Solicitors. Some of Jodie's episodes were okay but my god the exposition was on overdrive, she had a voice like a glue factory lol But this latest iteration.......I have never ever felt a sense of anger to the show until RTD2 blundered back on the scene ..... he's intentionally ripping the show in two, by giving HIS fans a bastardisation of the show from 1963 onwards.....a parallel version. In doing so, he's ENDED PROPER Dr Who

      "Has anyone officially asked RTD2 WHY he insists on dividing the Fan base/audience by intentionally using the show as a platform for activism?" There was RTD's "Tough" answer. I think it is pretty obvious that RTD thinks the show belongs to him and he really believes he doesn't have to answer to anyone who disagrees with him, cause, (clearly) they are on the wrong side of history and (clearly) WRONG.

      He’s an angry man and he’s lashing out at the now old white men who grew up with Classic Who. He has basically said this is no longer your show with the Bi-Generation. The old Dr is retired and this new Doctor is a spin-off. He’s not their Doctor but is for the new younger audience. Which has turned out to be the imaginary 16-30 yr olds that in reality don’t exist and were never the demographic that Dr Who was aimed at. Why RTD thinks they are now the most the important demographic is beyond me. He’s lost the plot. RTD is an activist and it’s sad that a 62 yr old man is trying to get down with the 16-30 yr olds. Where is the maturity? Then there is Steven Moffat. He’s intelligent to know that this RTD2 era is awful. Truly weak and pathetic storytelling and yet not only does he stay silent but decides to contribute to it with stories that he would never have put out between 2010-2017. At least Eric Saward came out all guns blazing in 1986. The show needs to end as the current BBC is not going to change anytime soon. Bring it back when this DEI/Woke nonsense has finally ended.

    RTD has created a show that is so far removed from the original, that it’s unrecognisable. Like you said JT; take away the TARDIS and the theme tune, what are we left with? It’s a painful and pitiful shadow of its former self.

  • @PaulRichards-vz4pl

    Excellent conversation with Myles. JT you mentioned the Slitheen. I don’t think that was RTD’s idea. I think he was ripping off the Foamasi from The Leisure Hive. Aliens in human skins. RTD’s way of doing it was with terrible toilet humour. Does he have an original idea in his head? Myles and yourself made so many great points. I Loved listening to this.

      RTD and Toilet Humour? Hmmm... yeah... I remember back when nuWho started and we classic era watchers were discussing if it was any good. One of the points was Micky getting eaten by the bin and the burp. A friend of mind put forward that he really liked it cause classic who was always low budget and having nuWho with some dodgey effects was a call back. I didn't agree then and still don't. DW had a budget and limitations and despite of them still aimed as high as they could. The show was in many ways very ambitious and pushed the limits of what you could do on a tv budget. But, was it deliberately a choice to toilet humour? Ummm... yeah... maybe. If so it shows a bit of an insight to what RTD really thought about the show and in hindsight it might be that RTD never really considered the show as a serious Sci Fi programme. Had the discussion today while buying comics - There is a difference between a show that is made for kids and a show that kids can watch. Topic was that I was the correct age to have seen Empire Strikes and Return of Jedi in cinema but too young to pick up on Star Wars at the time. My point had been that as kids we had COMPLETELY embraced the movies (and toys) cause Star Wars had been a movie series made that kids could watch it. Not made for kids. Suitable for kids. And I summed up my argument about what made a 'thing' suitable for kids is that afterwards none of the kids would need to come up to their parents and ask uncomfortable questions (Like "Why was the Doctor dancing to Kylie while Ruby was clearly in danger?" or "Why in The Phantom Menace during the era of the Republic do they have slaves on Tatooine when in the original Star Wars under the Empire they clearly did not?") So... yeah... The idea that RTD clearly always saw DW as a children's show with children's level of humour does make a lot of sense. Unfortunately.

      The KABLAM writer is at least an old school fan. He was very active in local fandom back at the end of the classic era and used to cosplay at cons at McCoy. Even back then he was open that he wanted to be a DW writer so, as much as I have a mix of apathy and dislike towards the Chibnall era, congrats to Peter for finally being able to live his dream. On the other hand, do NOT lean this guy your car. He blew up the engine on his back in the day by letting the oil run dry. He was asked why he didn't get any warning lights for low oil pressure and he said he did, but he didn't know what it was and it was starting to annoy him so he covered it up with a post-it note. So... I have... I wouldn't say 'Hope' for the War Between the Coastline spin off series, but I would be very happy for him if it was good.

    I did watch in colour at the time, and really enjoyed it, but I could not wait for the travels in the Tardis to return, it did seem more like Quatermas than Dr Who, but I was getting bored with it being stuck on Earth, i do remember Jon Pertwee saying it had become more adult, which was great but I really missed the galactic journeys, have to say William Hartnell was my Dr, as much as I thought Patrick Troughton was a great actor I stopped watching till the last episode of The war games, I really do like Patrick's stories now on DVD, I am not a fan of nuwho whatsoever i liked Christopher Eccleston but not the stories, just soap opera, it as gone from bad to worse, RTD, Moffat and Chibnall have ruined my favourite TV programmes of all time.!ps I was 14 when Dr Who started I got my son into It Jon was his first Dr, after the latest appalling Christmas episode we have both given up on it, as it is now!

    Uncle Terrance described this period as The Golden Years and he has been proven correct. The 12 seasons from 1970-81 are the best in the shows long history. It starts with Sherwin hiring Pertwee and commissioning Robert Holmes to write the awesome Spearhead From Space. He had very little time to do so and I can understand fully why he reused part of another story of his to speed things up. Then Barry Letts taking over with Dicks becoming script editor. All of these 4 stories were written and produced extremely quickly and yet the quality is astounding. I’m not knocking the Troughton era at all but the show had never recaptured the Dalekmania type viewing figures that the early Hartnell years got. By the time Season 6 finishes the ratings are below 4 million. It’s from Season 7 that the figures almost double and then beyond that they go up year on year. As great as Season 7 is and it’s one of the greatest, the decision to lighten the tone a bit while still being scary was the correct one. This was a Season too early for me but I do remember playing with my toys a few hours before Watch With Mother( 1.45-2.00 p.m) when the continuity presenter flashed up Pertwee’s face advertising the New Series with the New Doctor Who Jon Pertwee every time a programme ended. This is my First Memory of Dr Who. I was 4, well 3 yrs and 11 months old to be precise, with no way of knowing that this Show would be a huge part of my life. It would be Season 8 that I was allowed to watch with my older brothers. Watched on a B/W TV set. That was the next 4 years set with the Dr, Jo Grant and Sarah. Great memories! Sadly , I don’t feel that today’s 4-10 yrs will be talking so fondly about the current era in 50 yrs time as we do of the Jon Pertwee/ Tom Baker years. The Golden Years!

    So UNIT. Real UNIT. It is a military organisation formed (nominally from an UN mandate or something as the Brig was always taking instructions from Geneva, but basically it was Terribly British) in order deal with weird alien stuff by poking it with a rifle to see if it was hostile and then shooting it. More or less. It was the counter to the Doctor. It was the scared human response to the terrifying unknown. It was the glorious demonstration that while the Doctor was clever, us humans could still stand up for ourselves. It was the sign that you could trust the men and woman in uniform causes they would literally risk death to keep us safe. These days we get all those people claiming "Oh but the show was ALWAYS political" to which UNIT is the counter argument that says yes, it was Conservative and showed that sometimes you had to be firm with 'aliens' and not actually always submit to a point of view and culture completely opposed to your own. You didn't have to understand the suffering the alien invaders were going through or respect their lived experiences of oppressing entire planets. No. You got the Doctor to help expose their plan, advise you of their weakness and then you BLEW THEM UP. Then we get into the Moffat era and his open hate towards military culture and soldiers. Moffat has Peter openly say that he doesn't like soldiers. Okay... where does that come from in canon? I mean we know it comes from Moffat in meta, but in canon? That started to lose me. Both my parents were in uniform at various times of their lives. Reserves, not full time regulars and Mum dropped out to have us kids, but Dad got called up for active service during the Cold War and had Soviet warships point guns and missiles at him. I respect and admire the people who have served my country and then I got Doctor Who telling me those same people are scum that I should hate? That was the start of my realisation that the show now hated me. There were others. I am an engineering professional in the Day Job and having the show tell me that Big Industry were scum didn't help either. I quit before the end of Peter and I liked Peter. And Bill for that matter. Also - did anyone pick up that Bill was a lesbian? So... yeah. Nu-UNIT. It is... different. They are no longer a military response bravely and often blindly attempting to contain something they don't understand for the protection of the public. They are now a science establishment that locks up alien technology and mocks the elected government. With DEI hires. And a floor that somehow sparks when a wooden box is dragged across it... They make very little sense. They have the male stripper character who is apparently a colonel but runs around with an assault rifle doing grunt work and Kate, who everyone apparently likes, who shuffles around like a slightly bored school headmaster. (also - has anyone noticed that for a DEI friendly organisation who openly embraces wheelchair and mobility assisted equipment there are some MASSIVE tripping hazard drops in the floor of that main office.) So yes. They have destroyed UNIT. They can't have them doing military stuff cause Moffat hates the military so they turned them into a 'beyond the government' (cause RTD hates election results) that they then filled with DEI... and then accidentally managed to re-enforce the argument of the DEI critics by having Donna's son stand around not doing anything. I mean seriously, he is a tall boy, could have at least had him getting old files off the top shelf or something. Half the point of Real UNIT was it needed the Doctor because when it came to aliens it was massively out of its depth. Nu UNIT doesn't need the Doctor and instead the Doctor has to go crawling to them. Sigh.

    Had a dentist appointment and had to leave before the end. Big season for me both growing up and looking back. ABC I think got a bit narky on showing B&W episodes on repeat or not. I remember that I saw Spearhead several times, but are still not sure if I have seen AoD all the way through. Don't think that one got shown as much. Maybe the ABC decided it was a bit violent for the 6:30 time slot? Also I think Inferno didn't get the repeat love as some of the other episodes. I feel it was screened one year and we (sister and I) were excited because we hadn't seen it. The big thing with Inferno for me was the Doctor utterly fails to save Inferno World. There was the bit where the Doctor convinces the other world characters that he could get away, but they couldn't and there was anyone could do. That was brutal. Happy memories with Spearhead. I used to watch DW from the kitchen. My (older) sister was the bigger fan and I was a slightly impressionable and sensitive person at that age. (Now I am a cynical and bitter internet troll, so it shows that with time and effort you can improve yourself...) (for context for people who haven't visited my parent's house if you are in the kitchen you have ZERO line of sight to the lounge room and the television. So yeah, I used to watch a lot of DW from the kitchen growing up.) So it was Spearhead and the final episode and Dad, realising I was still a bit concerned, reassured me that the army was here now and we were winning. Dad was (and still isn't) a Sci Fi fan so this is still a big happy memory. Liz is amazing. Not sure I picked up at the time, but coming back and looking at it now she is a brilliant character and so well presented by Caroline. Really looking forward to the new release of this season. I actually have very little of Classic in hard copy, so being exited to buy it is a bit exceptional for me.

    The most important, and best, 'reboot' that Doctor Who has ever had, which, by taking it in a much-needed and entirely new direction, undoubtedly saved the show at an early stage. This was due largely, of course, to one excellent story after another, each replete with believable, perfectly rounded characters, who provided perfect support to each of the redoubtable lead actors. Many thanks, JT, Michael, Emilio, George, and Ian, for so emphatically asserting how fine, and pivotal, was season seven. All the best for now. Paul

    I'm sorry I missed this review on the night. I felt THE WAR GAMES colour edit telescoped the story more successfully than THE DALEKS, although an extra 10-15 minutes would have been lovely. If they're catching viewers with low attention span and encouraging viewers to seek out the B/W originals, fine. However, unlike 2005, the serial is back in-vogue. THE WAR GAMES was the last word on 1960s DOCTOR WHO, with an origins revelation and a scene-change to the 1970s. It was epic enough without the War Chief/Master inference. I didn't like the inclusion of New Who Doctor images, which seemed ill thought out. Since the Troughton Doctor described them as an "incredible looking bunch", why on earth would he choose to regenerate into them in the future?

    One final comment, the NA did include unnecessary sexual content, but there were also some amazing stories. It's worth pointing out that RTD's only entry in the series was panned at the time. There was a warning no one paid attention to at the time!

    Great chat as always guys! I'll try and watch live next time. I've seen on other channels that Badwolf have been costcutting and the Doc Who sets are packed away. What a perfect example of how not to make Doctor Who, any future producers should watch this to see how it all went wrong.

      DW sets 'packed away'? I've not heard this at all and how anyone can 'hear' this is beyond me as it's a very closed, tight ship. If they mean the TARDIS set (the only standing set of this new version) has been dismantled - I really doubt it ...

      @WhosViews I heard it on another channel, I don't want to say which one. Whether they have someone in the know, I can't say🤷‍♂️

    To anyone who thinks the presentation of the viewing figures is unfair, I'd like to say this is very accurate compared to other channels that jump through hoops to make them look good. They've been cooking the books for years, DWM even has a policy of positive discrimination on it's letters page. Anyone who voices concern for the show has little or no chance of being heard.

    • @WhosViews
      @WhosViews 5 днів тому

      Absolutely. As we make clear in the shows, these figures are taken from the official BARB data.

  • @Farsight-nc1ib
    @Farsight-nc1ib 5 днів тому

    Those viewing figures are very interesting. Some other UA-cam channels were claiming the 6 million viewers was the official BARB number. I smell a BBC backed rat....

    RIP Barbara Clegg and David A McIntee. Enlightenment was one of those stories that onlyDoctor Who could do. Where else would you get sailing ships in space? David A McIntee was a great writer. I remember reading White Darkness after just finishing my A Levels, a creepy and scary tale!

    It's not just BBC thats in trouble i have to admit to a guilty pleasure watching coronation street and there has been axing of cast's because ITV is in financial trouble and also they want to give more screen time to younger cast members that have been complaining they have not been getting much screen time.

    • @WhosViews
      @WhosViews 4 дні тому

      Younger cast members are cheaper. The BBC did the same thing with Casualty ...

    I once interviewed David M at Writers Gate - a damn good writer. I had the opportunity to hear Terrance Dicks panel, too, and the current show runner can't hold a candle to his skill and legacy.

      @WhosViews blimey, that was a long time ago JT! I'm pretty sure we were discussing 'Dark Path' and he had some really interesting things to say. (And the Master was Delgado of course, NOT the War Chief!!) I was a rookie radio journalist then and was asked to take part in interviewing the authors. Terrace Dicks was brilliant. (I don't know ifvyou would remember a mischievous fanzine called 'Varos' but Ivwas a writer for that, and part of the editorial team. Heady days!)

    Hello this Raymond Teasdale I just wanted to say very good show I am looking forward your review of Spearhead From Space. I am also looking forward to Sapphire & Steel review which I have the complete boxset. By the way my Birthday is this Sunday. I thought to mention if you want to review something different how about Midsomer Murders which as stars who has been old and modern Doctor who, or even Richard Greene's Adventures of Robin Hood which has Stars from Doctor Who and Carry On Films (By the way you can have a competition to see you can recognise, and No Little John was not in Carry On Screaming.... He does look a lot like Odd Bod and as the same I.Q. though) Try seeing how many times Patrick Troughton turned up and each time a different person.

    If both RTD and Ncuti are ousted then there is a chance the show can be saved. A talented actor/ established star with a fan base needs to be cast as the Doctor. And more importantly a new heterosexual Show Runner needs to be put in charge! RTD 's Dr who is x show by Gays and for Gays and no other viewers feel welcome! RTD fanatical gay obsession is destroying the franchise!

    • @WhosViews
      @WhosViews 6 днів тому

      As a gay man myself, I'd say this isn't true.... this is a show for the TQminority which are nothing to do with LGB. We do not stand for the same things. LGB do not need or use pronouns. We know a TW isn't a woman and a TM isn't a man as we are same sex attracted. We do not need to be pandered too .... the huge differences are important. Plus Moffat is a hettie - and look what he did/does! We don't need virtue signalling 'allies' either! (And yes, I'm looking at you Tennant.) #LGBwithouttheTQ

      Did you see that ill advised video Ncuti but on Instagram with him in just his pants with him, lets just say adjusting himself. I'm sorry but gay or straight I cannot believe this behaviour has not made it anywhere in any news outlets. I mean an actor in a family show doing this and no media coverage, and I bet will meet with no consequences is unbelievable. I mean Barrowman got so much heat with his antics, not great but this was on social media!!. I wonder if you will cover it this Sunday?
