Just because there isn't another shop with your name currently active on Etsy doesn't mean that the shop name is actually available. You actually have to go into the start of shop creation and use "check availability" to verify that your shop name is available. My Etsy shop name is slightly different from the name I use everywhere else because the name I wanted to use (and had registered as my official business name) turned out to not be available when I went to create the shop, even though there was no other shop with that name on Etsy.

Thanks for the video, choosing a name is driving me nuts! I came up with one that would have been perfect, totally perfect - no one on Etsy has it either... but googling revealed that it was already taken by a big US mining supply company! Argh! I wonder if I could still use it in some form or other. They're not a competitor (unless they decide to tap into the lucrative sea glass jewellery and hand-woven bookmark market😂), but the domain names etc. are obviously spoken for. Ugh, back to the drawing board 😕
