Set your preferences and hopefully there are people out there. If there are fewer people of your age group, you may need to allow more for the distance filter

Guys swipe right more and then they filter. Whereas women filter when swiping already. Either way, if they don't message it is either they are busy with others, actually read the profile rather than just looked at photo or other reasons why you shouldn't think too much about it.
