Just finished watching. One thing to note about the methodology for this incredibly important study is that the Pokemon would likely be processed in some way to be made cookable and edible. For example, a Zapdos would probably be (ethtically) deceased and have its electricity stuff removed by the time you were going to prepare it, or a Cloyster meal would likely only consist of edible non-face parts. When humans eat chickens or pigs, we're obviously not eating every part of them and are only having the processed edible sections. while the ethics of eating slowpoke tails seems p. unfavored in gsc, the nature of it is expanded upon in the alolan games where it's revealed that there's a non-problematic way of doing it: just ... picking up _discarded_ slowpoke tails, because as it turns out a creature that sticks its regenerating tail into water so that its prey can _bite_ it doesn't really have the expectation of said tail lasting forever. so over the course of its life, a slowpoke will have its tail break off naturally or just shed it after a certain amount of wear, at which point you can just pick it up and dry it, smoke it, or even just start chewing on it raw for the sweet excretion it uses as a lure. it's potentially a form of meat that's unambiguously vegetarian-friendly, though it does come with the caveat that the silver pokedex says it's not actually all that nutritious. might just be because it's high in collagen and not exactly edible without cooking it down, though either way, as long as you're not getting your tails like team rocket and just plunging into a slowpoke den to tear off their tails, you're probably fine
For the record, Staryu and Starmie are suggested to be aliens because they're in part references to Ultraman. Those sounds are basically identical to the ones Ultraman makes.
Something about Starmie's gem feels like it'd leech a pleasant flavour into surrounding ingredients if cooked alongside them, even if it needed to be removed once cooking is done.
Ive come to realize i watch these videos for Yellow cause not once have i ever wanted to know what pokemon could be edible, but if Big Yellow is talking about it? Absolutely.
according to slowpoke lore in sun and moon their tails fall off harmlessly from time to time and people use them in cooking!! in galar though you can cook curry with slowpoke tails and then feed it to your slowpoke so that's kind of fucked up
i mean frogs 'n lizards will eat their own skin and birds will eat their own unfertilized eggs and rabbits will _eat their own babies,_ so feed a slowpoke some other slowpoke's tail is proooobably not all that fucked up in the grand scheme of things like, animals gotta make do with what they've got, especially when their bodies suddenly relocate a chunk of their necessary mass for no immediate benefit. that's just nutrient recycling, baby!
I've had a horrible night, but I burst out laughing hearing you talk about Snorlax and how he'd satiate the vikings. Thank you for being your wonderful self.
"Chansey-shaped throat" The wiki tells us Chansey is 1.1m tall, this tells us the camera perspective is hiding how massive Big Yellow has secretly been all along. (Never mind that bit about Zapdos, which made me wonder if BY read the same nuzlocke comic(s) I did.)
“I think for a lot of people rhydon is going to be a pretty obvious pick for the least edible Pokemon in rby overused” had me dying since it implies that many people have debated this and it’s become a common notion that rhydon is the least edible in rby overused.
Okay so on the subject of Rhydon, there's absolutely now WAY that ain't like a crab with a tender inside. Sure, you may have to wait a few years to get a steel tool to break it open but you cannot tell me that guy wouldn't run you thirty-seven bucks at a high-class restaurant for 3 ounces of its meaty interior
I know it doesn't actually make sense, but Rhydon's "plating" reminds me of the exoskeleton of lobsters and crabs, and those are supposed to be delicious. In terms of it's thick and sturdy hide, I enthusiastically await the sequel to this video, "who is RBY OU's most wearable Pokemon?" Also, I'm pretty sure you'd be eating Gengar "alive" which is an ethical concern too.
C'mon, you can't shame me right at the start saying it's not cool to want to eat a Pokemon. I can't be the only one that looked at Tepig and thought, "Hm, pre-fried bacon," right? ...Right?
to be honest it would probably be more like a whole slow roasted pork roast. tepigs flames dont seem like theyre particularly hot and the bacon part wouldnt really be directly exposed to heat like frying. that said it would probably be very tasty, im imagining that effectively being slow cooked while kept fresh for the tepigs whole life would lead to like the most tender pork roast ever which is pretty cool
@@asher3311 You put a lot more thought into this than a joke of a fleeting thought I had when I first played B/W. It's honestly pretty impressive, so I applaud you. 👍
as a hardcore vegetarian, i find it funny that the most edible (and probably only edible) pokemon to me is my favourite pokemon, like im so eatin Paras's shrooms i get the best pizza topping, AND im technically saving its life from parasites?? thats not how food is supposed to work but i'll take it
Bit spoilery, so I'll hide it under a few lines: Starmie I've always assumed was like, entirely solid. The gem is obvious of course, but the decorative part around the gem is clearly metal, and I've always seen the rest of starmie as rigid, like rock or very firm cartilage. I know stadium shows it like flexing the arms a lot, but I never really took that too seriously, and the 3ds era models give them very, very limited flex. It might be the anime influencing my ideas here; pretty sure it's animated as very static there. Something about the way it moves in my view usually gives me the impression that it's like two very solid sections on a pivot, and would be really unpleasant to disassemble, and would require intense preparation to even remotely start softening. Welp, that video was wild lol. Subbed to the second channel too now, looking forward to more deranged nonsense X3
7:00 I see, so to coincide with the trip, Yellow decided to remind us of Sweden's most epic contribution to the musical world. A true individual of culture and knowledge.
On one hand, I don’t think the legendary birds are the only ones in Kanto, because Stadium 1 has numerous trainers that have them (including Giovanni and Lorelei), and Let’s Go lets you find wild ones as super rare encounters in postgame. On the other, don’t eat a Zapdos, they’re super endangered
My friends and I had the rationale that Hypno is a bad person and does terrible things, so he went in a "eat if based" tier alongside Unown B, Unown A, Unown S, you get it.
I firmly believe that I can absolutely rip into the flesh of Chansey with my teeth considering the poor defense stat and high hp alongside the egg makes for a full course meal! 🔥🔥🔥
imagine eating a gengar to kill it, but as it dies you see it give you the biggest shit eating grin. Its final words "gottem" On tauros, I'm probably wrong about this, but tauros always reminded me of buffalo more than a bull. And like, buffalo meat is pretty good.
I also believe Alakazam has a high degree of sentience to understand human language and even communicate through psychokinesis so thatd be one of the least ethical to eat tbh
The thing about starmie, so long as you dont damage the gem, the body will continue to regenerate forever, so as long as the meat tastes good you could harvest Starmie's limbs forever
On the topic of Alakazam: We don't *know* that it's fleshy and its arms and legs look very crab-like, so its entirely possible that you could crack those open and it would taste pretty good.
regarding snorlax's digestive system, in mexico people eat cow stomach (called menudo) despite how troublesome it is to make edible. As far as i remember, it need to be washed for hours to remove al the gunk. It also takes a long ass time to cook. Its pretty good though.
I propose that, while gengar might be mostly highly toxic gas, some clown would find a way to vape gengar and it'd take off with weird teenagers for exactly four years until the guy got hit with a crushing lawsuit for all the long term damage he'd done to the kids' health.
I love how more youtubers are doing the Schafrillas bit of playing a little memey soundbyte for each top 10 number EDIT: Ok i'm gonna contest the cloyster placement. Cloyster's head is, in all likelyhood, more similar to a big pearl because oyster/clam meaning it wouldn't melt like you think it would and it might even be worth something similar to starmie's gem. Cloyster's edible bits are probably the muscles inside the shell that we can barely see and those are probably delicious.

Also the idea of eating the only Zapdos made me think that there might be some Poke-Saxton Hale searching for legendaries so he can be the one guy who ate them.
I think it's worth noting that Slowpoke Tails are usable as a curry ingredient in Sword and Shield without any mention of it being unethical. The item description says that "when a Slowpoke's tail falls off, it grows back quickly", which suggests that not only do Slowpoke shed their tails naturally, making them obtainable without just taking a saw to the little guy, but that even without their tails Slowpoke isn't out of commission for fishin' for long enough to starve, which makes it feel a lot better morally in my opinion.
Weird take but I feel like Chansey would vaguely be like poultry. The big egg and whatnot, y’know? I feel it’d be like turkey or something, and those hair bits and the hand nubs? Like chicken wings baby.
Big yellow really just said "I'm making one for the freaks today" and harpooned me, huh? Anyways, as a certified freak, i can tell you immediately the number 1 most edible mon in Kanto is Clefable. Vaporeon follows close behind, being the only fish in the region that seems actually, tangibly edible, and, like. That is more then enough to get this high in this gen. (Mewtwo would take the actual number 1 spot for tastiest because he was made to be the best in everything, so obviously they made sure he'd taste good roasted low and slow over applewood, but using lab-grown meat is cheating so we aren't counting him.) Anyways, none if these are OU so they'd not be mentioned in the video, so i had to let my freak out on all of you so you would know. Alright Freak out. Edit: Freak is back to say you are right on Tauros, that shit would be gangly as fuck and kill you.
What you don't understand about Exeggutor is that he is the food, the plate, AND the cooking method all in one. Leaves: Use them to wrap the coconut heads and the inner meat in so that you can chuck them directly in the fire and slow cook them. Bonus is you can unwrap the leaves and you got something to keep the meat in. Outer bark: I'm pretty sure that it's only the outer part of Exeggutor that's woody because inside there has to be muscles for it to move. So this wood can be used for Firewood. Feet Shoes. Those would be some nice clogs. Just hollow it out. You don't have to eat the feet meat.
i think any psychic pokemon is gonna fuck you up if you eat it (except for maybe slowbro). starmie is probably edible but the meat might do a fucked up psychic attack on you unless its prepared really well. at the very least the chef would need to be careful as fuck to avoid getting hit by a psychic blast (especially since a starfish's brain isnt centralized and the arms could probably still fuck you up even if it looked dead). starmie is definitely more edible than i would have thought at first but i think number one is stretching it a bit. i do kinda wanna try it tho
Important side note: Slowpoke tail usually grows back, like those funky lizards. In Sun's Pokédex, "Its long tail often breaks off. It doesn’t really feel any pain, though, and the tail grows back, so Slowpoke isn’t particularly bothered." I think the idea is that when it sheds naturally, it grows back, but not if it's cut-- making it a rare delicacy, unless poached like Rocket did.

- In the anime, instead of saying their names, Staryu and Starmie make kung-fu noises with a reverb effect, like "HYAAAH!" or "HUUUH!" Those sounds are basically identical to the ones Ultraman makes.

Ive come to realize i watch these videos for Yellow cause not once have i ever wanted to know what pokemon could be edible, but if Big Yellow is talking about it? Absolutely.
Hypno may be humanoid, but its body is composed almost entirely of sponge toffee.
I'd also argue that Starmie is probably very abundant, it's probably possible to ethically fish them.
Porygon has a niche in this tier list by being made of code 🥰
Holographic meatloaf, my favorite!
according to slowpoke lore in sun and moon their tails fall off harmlessly from time to time and people use them in cooking!! in galar though you can cook curry with slowpoke tails and then feed it to your slowpoke so that's kind of fucked up
Idk why but going "oh no guys don't worry the slowpoke will be ok!" and then ruining it one generation later is very funny
i mean frogs 'n lizards will eat their own skin and birds will eat their own unfertilized eggs and rabbits will _eat their own babies,_ so feed a slowpoke some other slowpoke's tail is proooobably not all that fucked up in the grand scheme of things
like, animals gotta make do with what they've got, especially when their bodies suddenly relocate a chunk of their necessary mass for no immediate benefit. that's just nutrient recycling, baby!

Still waiting for Rhydon to drop to NU in the Smogon Recipe Viability Rankings
Okay so on the subject of Rhydon, there's absolutely now WAY that ain't like a crab with a tender inside. Sure, you may have to wait a few years to get a steel tool to break it open but you cannot tell me that guy wouldn't run you thirty-seven bucks at a high-class restaurant for 3 ounces of its meaty interior

Also, I'm pretty sure you'd be eating Gengar "alive" which is an ethical concern too.

@@amberhernandez people use tochukaso as medicine or some shit so surely that shouldnt be too big a barrier to overcome
Bit spoilery, so I'll hide it under a few lines:
Starmie I've always assumed was like, entirely solid.

On tauros, I'm probably wrong about this, but tauros always reminded me of buffalo more than a bull. And like, buffalo meat is pretty good.
I also believe Alakazam has a high degree of sentience to understand human language and even communicate through psychokinesis so thatd be one of the least ethical to eat tbh
Please, this can't be the last episode, we need more unwraped episodes!
This is entirely unhinged content.
Keep it up.
Gengar is weak to Bite in the later gens, so he's edible.
Weatherspoons Jumpscare (14:50)
Snorlax is super rare, so that'd be my "ethical issue".
Zapdos' legs always looked like drumsticks
regarding snorlax's digestive system, in mexico people eat cow stomach (called menudo) despite how troublesome it is to make edible.
I love how more youtubers are doing the Schafrillas bit of playing a little memey soundbyte for each top 10 number
EDIT: Ok i'm gonna contest the cloyster placement. Cloyster's head is, in all likelyhood, more similar to a big pearl because oyster/clam meaning it wouldn't melt like you think it would and it might even be worth something similar to starmie's gem. Cloyster's edible bits are probably the muscles inside the shell that we can barely see and those are probably delicious.

describing Hypno as "he's just a guy" is pretty funny because it almost sounds insulting
"Erm, actually salt is a rock that you eat {nerd emoji}. You clearly need to powder them and sprinkle them on other Pokemon {nerd emoji}"

(Mewtwo would take the actual number 1 spot for tastiest because he was made to be the best in everything, so obviously they made sure he'd taste good roasted low and slow over applewood, but using lab-grown meat is cheating so we aren't counting him.)
Anyways, none if these are OU so they'd not be mentioned in the video, so i had to let my freak out on all of you so you would know.

What you don't understand about Exeggutor is that he is the food, the plate, AND the cooking method all in one.
Leaves:
Use them to wrap the coconut heads and the inner meat in so that you can chuck them directly in the fire and slow cook them. Bonus is you can unwrap the leaves and you got something to keep the meat in.
Outer bark:
I'm pretty sure that it's only the outer part of Exeggutor that's woody because inside there has to be muscles for it to move. So this wood can be used for Firewood.
Feet

its because of videos like this that I love and defend this channel. thanks, big yellow S2
(I meant these channels, of course)
i think any psychic pokemon is gonna fuck you up if you eat it (except for maybe slowbro). starmie is probably edible but the meat might do a fucked up psychic attack on you unless its prepared really well. at the very least the chef would need to be careful as fuck to avoid getting hit by a psychic blast (especially since a starfish's brain isnt centralized and the arms could probably still fuck you up even if it looked dead). starmie is definitely more edible than i would have thought at first but i think number one is stretching it a bit. i do kinda wanna try it tho
Just gotta wait until Gen 2 to get a Dark-Type to prepare it for you safely
@@yamivolcarona2592wait youre so right. you get a sneasel to prepare a starmie it is going to taste incredible. thats the secret
