Just finished watching. One thing to note about the methodology for this incredibly important study is that the Pokemon would likely be processed in some way to be made cookable and edible. For example, a Zapdos would probably be (ethtically) deceased and have its electricity stuff removed by the time you were going to prepare it, or a Cloyster meal would likely only consist of edible non-face parts. When humans eat chickens or pigs, we're obviously not eating every part of them and are only having the processed edible sections. I think it's safe to assume that in this hypothetical eating Pokémon hell world, procedures and processes would be in place to make each Pokémon as safely and enjoyably edible as possible. TL;DR I don't think you'd be Kirby inhaling an entire still-electric Zapdos or chomping into a still-breathing Rhydon. Either way, this was a fun video! I'd love to see more little yapisodes in the future.
This is a good point, my list is just kinda from the perspective of like a really angry chef going around preparing and eating random mons but if that caught on and we had Chansey ready-meals on our hands we'd have a VERY different situation on our hands And thank you! humans CAN eat every portion of an animal. we don't because we find it unsightly from privileged positions, but you _can._ it's only really recently-like, in the past 40 years recently-that meat came to a grocer already cut and packed and completely removed from the context of the bodies it was cut from. before then, the animal was delivered to the butcher, and you would ask for the cut you wanted-and *a good many* people would wait for a carcass to be picked apart and then offer to buy the unfavourable bits (bones, cartilage, etc) because they can be used for making bone broths, the marrow can be carved out to enrich some dishes, preserving some parts in some fashions solves the 'inedibility' problem (pickled pig's feet comes to mind; supposedly this is also possible with chicken feet but i have no idea). 'chitlins' was the order name for the internal organs. i know plenty of elderly men who will still swear on scrambled eggs & cow brains as the most enriching breakfast ('it's brain food' being the dad joke of all time). almost every part of most animals are edible or otherwise usable. _we in the west_ are picky because we have the privilege to be so. (also i am absolutely not convinced that half the delicacy of zapdos would not, in fact, be from leaving some electrical impulses which makes your mouth go partly numb, mostly silly feeling, similar to strong horseradish or genuine wasabi.) anyway, without the factory farm precision and standardisation, and assuming the large variety of species on the table, it is unlikely that the 'conveniences' of modernised meat distribution would exist in pokeworld, assuming most species are able to be eaten culturally? the only reason pre-butchering is possible as it exists in industrial factory farming today, is due to extreme standardisation-animal sizes are pretty strictly monitored for uniformity; when the 'ethical' shocks and 'ethical' brain bolts fail on animals that are hung from chains, it is usually because they deviated from the standardised sizes. [i am actually ethically vegan in real life, but i know way too much about food logistics to not leave a reply to this comment.]

In a survival situation you have to take into account how useful they'd be as teammates too. Like snorlax would be such a hassle to feed that it's probably worth offing for food if things get bad but Pokemon like starmie could aid you in ways more useful than just eating them
You neglected to bring up the most important ethical part of Starmie's edibility: as a starfish-based creature with recovery abilities, it can quickly regrow its tasty limbs while you continue to feast. The most I could say against that is Starmie probably gets annoyed after a while.
I could see a small family having a slowpoke around like livestock, harvesting the tails and caring for the slowpoke/slowbro while the tail regrows, feeding it fish and making sure the regrowth happens properly. I also imagine fake/vegetarian versions of real Pokemon being very popular in the Pokemon world.
Something about Starmie's gem feels like it'd leech a pleasant flavour into surrounding ingredients if cooked alongside them, even if it needed to be removed once cooking is done.

while the ethics of eating slowpoke tails seems p. unfavored in gsc, the nature of it is expanded upon in the alolan games where it's revealed that there's a non-problematic way of doing it: just ... picking up _discarded_ slowpoke tails, because as it turns out a creature that sticks its regenerating tail into water so that its prey can _bite_ it doesn't really have the expectation of said tail lasting forever. so over the course of its life, a slowpoke will have its tail break off naturally or just shed it after a certain amount of wear, at which point you can just pick it up and dry it, smoke it, or even just start chewing on it raw for the sweet excretion it uses as a lure. it's potentially a form of meat that's unambiguously vegetarian-friendly, though it does come with the caveat that the silver pokedex says it's not actually all that nutritious. might just be because it's high in collagen and not exactly edible without cooking it down, though either way, as long as you're not getting your tails like team rocket and just plunging into a slowpoke den to tear off their tails, you're probably fine

For the record, Staryu and Starmie are suggested to be aliens because they're in part references to Ultraman. This is evident in a few things: - Staryu's Japanese name is "Hitodeman" (literally "Starfish Man"). - Staryu and Starmie have multiple dex entries explaining that those gems in their center will blink if they're harmed--Ultraman has a light in his chest that starts blinking if he's about to run out of power. - They can learn a lot of "beam" moves and energy attacks (i.e. Thunderbolt, Signal Beam, Swift), which Ultraman makes heavy use of. - In the anime, instead of saying their names, Staryu and Starmie make kung-fu noises with a reverb effect, like "HYAAAH!" or "HUUUH!" Those sounds are basically identical to the ones Ultraman makes.

I would feel bad if i had to eat endangered animals, but in my opinion i personally disagree with the idea that pokemon that look like real endangered animals transfer the same ethical dilemmas, since it's not endangered in the world that we are discussing about. There is also the fact that if you dig deep enough you would find a ton of animals of almost any species who are endangered from bird, bovine to insects and fish. Of course i know that this list is based mostly on *vibes* since you can't eat pokemon but from a discussion standpoint, pokemon with features based on its real life animals shouldn't be such a big point.... If you disregard the fact that any pokemon is probably conscious and that they are also quite intelligent if not more compared to a human.
i think any psychic pokemon is gonna fuck you up if you eat it (except for maybe slowbro). starmie is probably edible but the meat might do a fucked up psychic attack on you unless its prepared really well. at the very least the chef would need to be careful as fuck to avoid getting hit by a psychic blast (especially since a starfish's brain isnt centralized and the arms could probably still fuck you up even if it looked dead). starmie is definitely more edible than i would have thought at first but i think number one is stretching it a bit. i do kinda wanna try it tho
Important side note: Slowpoke tail usually grows back, like those funky lizards. In Sun's Pokédex, "Its long tail often breaks off. It doesn’t really feel any pain, though, and the tail grows back, so Slowpoke isn’t particularly bothered." I think the idea is that when it sheds naturally, it grows back, but not if it's cut-- making it a rare delicacy, unless poached like Rocket did.
The thing about starmie, so long as you dont damage the gem, the body will continue to regenerate forever, so as long as the meat tastes good you could harvest Starmie's limbs forever

Not in a fetishy vore way in a 100% corpse to bones speedrun. We’ll assume a standard human just died and their corpse was presented to the Pokémon. Morality will be considered, but the base instincts of survival will win out except in extreme circumstances. No Pokédex because I’m too lazy to look them up S tier: these Pokémon have both the will and body to eat you. 1: Gengar. I’m not entirely sure gengar has a physical form. But if there was one thing that would be physical it’s definitely that charming smile. I was gonna rank gengar lower because it prob doesn’t need to eat. However then I realized: he does it for love of the sport. You ever watch Madoka magica? You know that scene with Mami? You know, that scene. Gengar would ask you that and then replicate it to cause the most emotional suffering possible 2: Victreebel. This dude is a walking mouth basically. I have to justify him being number 2 more than I do number 1. So why number 2? Well what Victreebel does is just put you in a jar, waits for you to melt, and then slurps up the juice. Firstly depending on how much acid Victreebel has + how potent it is this could be slower than just regular eating. Like imagine melting inch by inch. Secondly, I mean that’s not really eating is it? Like would charizard be the best eater if it turned you into ash and then snorted it like crack? Come on 3: Alakazam. If Zam had forks (or a set) instead of spoons easy top 1. However dualweilding spoons still earns a very respectable top 3. Now you may be wondering if Zam has the mentality to eat a person. Well, I think Zam is racist. I think it knows it’s so much smarter than us. I think it knows that the only thing stopping it from ruling us are poke balls. I mean this is basically just a person right. And people without morals would be pretty good at eating other people. Does Jynx have morals? I don’t really know but I feel like the answer leans more to no than yes. 7: Snorlax. Lax definitely has the mentality to consume but I don’t think he’s got the body to do that. It’s like a whale that waits for fish to swim into its mouth but it’s on land like a dummy. Trick room wasn’t invented until gen 4, lax is never catching prey. What you don't understand about Exeggutor is that he is the food, the plate, AND the cooking method all in one. Leaves: Use them to wrap the coconut heads and the inner meat in so that you can chuck them directly in the fire and slow cook them. Bonus is you can unwrap the leaves and you got something to keep the meat in. Outer bark: I'm pretty sure that it's only the outer part of Exeggutor that's woody because inside there has to be muscles for it to move. So this wood can be used for Firewood. Feet Shoes. Those would be some nice clogs. Just hollow it out. You don't have to eat the feet meat.

Just finished watching. One thing to note about the methodology for this incredibly important study is that the Pokemon would likely be processed in some way to be made cookable and edible. For example, a Zapdos would probably be (ethtically) deceased and have its electricity stuff removed by the time you were going to prepare it, or a Cloyster meal would likely only consist of edible non-face parts. When humans eat chickens or pigs, we're obviously not eating every part of them and are only having the processed edible sections. I think it's safe to assume that in this hypothetical eating Pokémon hell world, procedures and processes would be in place to make each Pokémon as safely and enjoyably edible as possible.
TL;DR I don't think you'd be Kirby inhaling an entire still-electric Zapdos or chomping into a still-breathing Rhydon.
Either way, this was a fun video! I'd love to see more little yapisodes in the future.
This is a good point, my list is just kinda from the perspective of like a really angry chef going around preparing and eating random mons but if that caught on and we had Chansey ready-meals on our hands we'd have a VERY different situation on our hands

humans CAN eat every portion of an animal. we don't because we find it unsightly from privileged positions, but you _can._ it's only really recently-like, in the past 40 years recently-that meat came to a grocer already cut and packed and completely removed from the context of the bodies it was cut from. before then, the animal was delivered to the butcher, and you would ask for the cut you wanted-and *a good many* people would wait for a carcass to be picked apart and then offer to buy the unfavourable bits (bones, cartilage, etc) because they can be used for making bone broths, the marrow can be carved out to enrich some dishes, preserving some parts in some fashions solves the 'inedibility' problem (pickled pig's feet comes to mind; supposedly this is also possible with chicken feet but i have no idea). 'chitlins' was the order name for the internal organs. i know plenty of elderly men who will still swear on scrambled eggs & cow brains as the most enriching breakfast ('it's brain food' being the dad joke of all time).
almost every part of most animals are edible or otherwise usable. _we in the west_ are picky because we have the privilege to be so.
(also i am absolutely not convinced that half the delicacy of zapdos would not, in fact, be from leaving some electrical impulses which makes your mouth go partly numb, mostly silly feeling, similar to strong horseradish or genuine wasabi.)
anyway, without the factory farm precision and standardisation, and assuming the large variety of species on the table, it is unlikely that the 'conveniences' of modernised meat distribution would exist in pokeworld, assuming most species are able to be eaten culturally? the only reason pre-butchering is possible as it exists in industrial factory farming today, is due to extreme standardisation-animal sizes are pretty strictly monitored for uniformity; when the 'ethical' shocks and 'ethical' brain bolts fail on animals that are hung from chains, it is usually because they deviated from the standardised sizes.

In a survival situation you have to take into account how useful they'd be as teammates too. Like snorlax would be such a hassle to feed that it's probably worth offing for food if things get bad but Pokemon like starmie could aid you in ways more useful than just eating them

You neglected to bring up the most important ethical part of Starmie's edibility: as a starfish-based creature with recovery abilities, it can quickly regrow its tasty limbs while you continue to feast. The most I could say against that is Starmie probably gets annoyed after a while.

while the ethics of eating slowpoke tails seems p. unfavored in gsc, the nature of it is expanded upon in the alolan games where it's revealed that there's a non-problematic way of doing it: just ... picking up _discarded_ slowpoke tails, because as it turns out a creature that sticks its regenerating tail into water so that its prey can _bite_ it doesn't really have the expectation of said tail lasting forever. so over the course of its life, a slowpoke will have its tail break off naturally or just shed it after a certain amount of wear, at which point you can just pick it up and dry it, smoke it, or even just start chewing on it raw for the sweet excretion it uses as a lure. it's potentially a form of meat that's unambiguously vegetarian-friendly, though it does come with the caveat that the silver pokedex says it's not actually all that nutritious. might just be because it's high in collagen and not exactly edible without cooking it down, though

(Mewtwo would take the actual number 1 spot for tastiest because he was made to be the best in everything, so obviously they made sure he'd taste good roasted low and slow over applewood, but using lab-grown meat is cheating so we aren't counting him.)

For the record, Staryu and Starmie are suggested to be aliens because they're in part references to Ultraman. This is evident in a few things:
- Staryu's Japanese name is "Hitodeman" (literally "Starfish Man").
- Staryu and Starmie have multiple dex entries explaining that those gems in their center will blink if they're harmed--Ultraman has a light in his chest that starts blinking if he's about to run out of power.
- They can learn a lot of "beam" moves and energy attacks (i.e. Thunderbolt, Signal Beam, Swift), which Ultraman makes heavy use of.

I would feel bad if i had to eat endangered animals, but in my opinion i personally disagree with the idea that pokemon that look like real endangered animals transfer the same ethical dilemmas, since it's not endangered in the world that we are discussing about.
There is also the fact that if you dig deep enough you would find a ton of animals of almost any species who are endangered from bird, bovine to insects and fish.
Of course i know that this list is based mostly on *vibes* since you can't eat pokemon but from a discussion standpoint, pokemon with features based on its real life animals shouldn't be such a big point.... If you disregard the fact that any pokemon is probably conscious and that they are also quite intelligent if not more compared to a human.

i think any psychic pokemon is gonna fuck you up if you eat it (except for maybe slowbro). starmie is probably edible but the meat might do a fucked up psychic attack on you unless its prepared really well. at the very least the chef would need to be careful as fuck to avoid getting hit by a psychic blast (especially since a starfish's brain isnt centralized and the arms could probably still fuck you up even if it looked dead). starmie is definitely more edible than i would have thought at first but i think number one is stretching it a bit. i do kinda wanna try it tho

Important side note: Slowpoke tail usually grows back, like those funky lizards. In Sun's Pokédex, "Its long tail often breaks off. It doesn’t really feel any pain, though, and the tail grows back, so Slowpoke isn’t particularly bothered." I think the idea is that when it sheds naturally, it grows back, but not if it's cut-- making it a rare delicacy, unless poached like Rocket did.
The thing about starmie, so long as you dont damage the gem, the body will continue to regenerate forever, so as long as the meat tastes good you could harvest Starmie's limbs forever

Here are the rules: I’m ranking every Pokémon based on how well they eat *you*. Not in a fetishy vore way in a 100% corpse to bones speedrun. We’ll assume a standard human just died and their corpse was presented to the Pokémon. Morality will be considered, but the base instincts of survival will win out except in extreme circumstances. No Pokédex because I’m too lazy to look them up
S tier: these Pokémon have both the will and body to eat you.
1: Gengar. I’m not entirely sure gengar has a physical form. But if there was one thing that would be physical it’s definitely that charming smile. I was gonna rank gengar lower because it prob doesn’t need to eat. However then I realized: he does it for love of the sport. You ever watch Madoka magica? You know that scene with Mami? You know, that scene. Gengar would ask you that and then replicate it to cause the most emotional suffering possible
2: Victreebel. This dude is a walking mouth basically. I have to justify him being number 2 more than I do number 1. So why number 2? Well what Victreebel does is just put you in a jar, waits for you to melt, and then slurps up the juice. Firstly depending on how much acid Victreebel has + how potent it is this could be slower than just regular eating. Like imagine melting inch by inch. Secondly, I mean that’s not really eating is it? Like would charizard be the best eater if it turned you into ash and then snorted it like crack? Come on
3: Alakazam. If Zam had forks (or a set) instead of spoons easy top 1. However dualweilding spoons still earns a very respectable top 3. Now you may be wondering if Zam has the mentality to eat a person. Well, I think Zam is racist. I think it knows it’s so much smarter than us. I think it knows that the only thing stopping it from ruling us are poke balls. I think Zam would jump to eat a person, not just for nutrition but for the deliberate killing of an inferior.
A tier: These Pokémon lack the killer mentality to turn their body into true human eating machines. Hands will also give a large advantage
4: Rhydon. This dude has rocks for brains. If he’s hungry, he’s gonna take his stubby little arms and rip off all the flesh on your bones and eat them. However if you bleed enough it may end up killing rhydon
5: Jynx. I mean this is basically just a person right. And people without morals would be pretty good at eating other people. Does Jynx have morals? I don’t really know but I feel like the answer leans more to no than yes.
7: Snorlax. Lax definitely has the mentality to consume but I don’t think he’s got the body to do that. It’s like a whale that waits for fish to swim into its mouth but it’s on land like a dummy. Trick room wasn’t invented until gen 4, lax is never catching prey. It’s kinda like taking away Grubhub from a NEET
6: Slowbro. Now you may be asking yourself “hey wait aren’t the numbers swapped?”. I think slowbro is hard to rank on its own, but it directly powerscales above lax. It’s basically a lax except 1: psychic so maybe it’s not stupid but just slow and 2: I think the shell could detach itself and operate as a second mouth allowing for twice as fast consumption.
8: Hypno. This dude has the mentality of a killer who ends up romanticized on tumblr and hands so why is it so low? Well, does hypno have hands? Keyword plural. Like if the pendulum is non removable then hypno is eating you one handed right? He’s got his fist curled up and like, what if it just can’t uncurl.
9: Chansey. Now I can hear it already “Chansey would never eat a person they’re too kind”. Firstly, why does Chansey “eat” every special attack then? But more importantly, I think Chansey is like a dog. Loves you very very much, but like a day after you’ve died they’re eating your body. I wouldn’t fight you if you put chansey in B but I think her hands no matter how small they are still put her in A
10: Tauros. By all accounts, tauros should be in B. It’s just a bull. However I think tauros has a unique mentality. I think he’s like a Liver king viewer. Or a primordial diet preacher. Believes eating raw meat makes him more manly. Tauros goes to the restaurant saying “waiter waiter more human corpses please”
Starmie tier: for starmie
11: Starmie. Can starmie eat? Idk. Does it need to eat? Idk. How would it eat? Idk. Starmie could be an eldlich horror perfectly designed to consume humans or like a floating rock that just vibes. So in its own special tier it goes
B tier: These dudes are just animals, and would eat you like animals would
12: Lapras. It’s a big animal with a big belly. Itmprobnalt can eat you
13: Jolteon. Jolteon is literally just my Chansey argument. It’s your pet that’s starts nibbling your corpse after you leave short term memory.
14 15: Zapdos/Articuno. Look at how skinny these birds are. I think they’re terrible eaters that only don’t starve to death because they’re such great hunters. But man their bodies are not suited for eating human corpses. However it’s not active sabotage so B it goes
C tier: These Pokémon have biology which actively sabotages them
16: Exeggutor. No arms, stubby little feet, no neck. What is bro doing? The only saving grace they have is the 3 mouthes allowing 3x the eating. However because it’s got no arms if you show it a corpse, one head is always looking away and can’t help. And like what, is it gonna fall over to get its heads close enough to eat? How’s it gonna get back up?

What you don't understand about Exeggutor is that he is the food, the plate, AND the cooking method all in one.

Use them to wrap the coconut heads and the inner meat in so that you can chuck them directly in the fire and slow cook them. Bonus is you can unwrap the leaves and you got something to keep the meat in.
