If I recall correctly, there is a magnetic field at the power plant. I'm pretty sure it was added in the ultra games because of Poni Island being the last one you go to is a very long time to go with a Charjabug.
One more thing about the Steven battle: Suppose we edit the game or use some kind of Action Replay. Suppose we give him a Nincada as a starting Pokémon. Suppose it evolves after the fight. Also suppose that we have an empty slot in our party. Will a Shedinja appear in our team?
6:25 this mechanic was introduced in gen 4 though? mount coronet does this. chargestone cave does this. kalos power plant does this. and the Electric trial (in addition to Blush Mountain, *not* Mount Hokulani) does this in USUM only, not normal SM.
Yeah I was gonna say. Gen 7 was the very LAST generation to have location based evolution not the first. Now all of those evolutions just use their respective types stones.
For the same reasons I knew that Steven's newly beefed up metagross wouldn't persist into the next fight, I knew the rival wouldn't retain the shiny cindaquil either. Pokemon trainer fights, and specifically their teams, are hard-coded with specific IVs/EVs and specific PID's/TID's/SID's so that each trainer fight is against the exact same standardized team every time. In fact, I think it's even the case that these preset pokemon teams are deliberately given combinations of ID's and IVs that can never produce shiny pokemon.
Yeah, it's already been shown that, in the Hoenn games, if the Ralts Wally meets in Route 102 is Shiny, that won't result in him having a Shiny Ralts in Mauville or a Shiny Gardevoir in Victory Road.
yeah, the game doesn't even "know" they're the same characters. There's not one rival that the game keeps track of, they're in the code as rival1/2/3 etc. Basically completely different characters as far as the game is concerned.

The magnetic field thing has always been a thing since the introduction of Probopass and Magnezone. It started as the summit of Mt. Coronet, then Chargestone Cave, Route 13 in Kalos, then New Mauville, then Vast Poni Canyon in base Sun and Moon and Blush Mountain in the Ultra games. Idk why they thought it was the electric trial area tho, it's always been only one location like the Icy and Mossy Rock
Ultra games have two locations, Vast Poni Canyon works the same as in base SM. Blush Mountain did not replace the magnetic field, it added onto it. Same goes for the Crabrawler evolution, Ultra games added one more spot, not replace the old one
@@LeKornorBros Well with Crabrawler, they didn't add a new area, it's still Mt Lanakila, they just made the bottom portion accessible earlier than before
That Steven partner battle is such an interesting case. After watching this video I looked at Emerald's disassembly to try to understand it better. It's essentially coded as a special case of the link battle from the Battle Frontier, where you and a friend link up to battle as partners. In every case in the Battle Frontier, EXP is disabled for both Pokemon and your Pokedex doesn't get updated if you see/battle with new Pokemon (e.g. rentals). But they never accounted for the case in which it's a normal overworld battle, likely because it was just this one case. So rather than code for a special double battle where only one partner can earn EXP, they likely carefully set the levels of all NPC Pokemon to make it that Steven's Pokemon wouldn't level up when played normally (without a triple Explosion sacrifice). So with that, I'm fairly certain that if you gave him a Nincada and went into the battle with 5 or fewer Pokemon in your party and a Pokeball in your bag, and the Nincada evolved into Ninjask at the end of the battle, you would walk away with Steven's Shedinja.
Hey, I've seen a few people comment about the shedinja idea. I think I might have the right tools to test this. If I do, any advice on where I should share the results? @@kristalann5151 If you do try it, be sure to see if you can battle with Steven with only 2 total pokemon instead of 3. Same, I'm positive I've heard Suicune in the overworld in a game before, and that one is a very distinct cry. But I'm pretty sure that was in HGSS not RSE or FRLG.

You would hear it really loud and distinct, but I think that's my memory from the original crystal version not anything newer than that. It doesn't make any sense that they would cut it since it was specifically a feature back then though.
The Meteor Falls Steven fight makes sense to not be affected by the double battle -- the battles are hard coded for moves and levels (and in many generations, IVs as well by trainer class), so there wasn't gonna be any effect from changing up Steven's metang during the double battle.

I remember playing Moon and thinking the Bug was cute and hey, why not use Magnemite? I was the fool who carried Charjabug and Magneton all the way to Vast Poni Canyon to not only get Vikavolt but a Magnezone too.
Same happened to me. I had the bug in my team and at some point I was wondering when the hell does thing evolve. I don't look up walkthroughs. At some point at random I was in the cave and fought some random monster and then it finally evolved, phew.
"This place is crawling with this pokemon and absolutely none of its evolved form, this must be a place where they evolve." That's some flawless logic there 😂
In FR/LG Oak has hidden dialogue that you get during the very first rival fight. Some you see normally by doing the following: 1. using a healing item 2. using non daamaage moves 3. dealing damage BUT there is a secret set if dialogue for TWO scenarios that would normally never happen because you only have one Pokemon and you lack a revival item. These secret Oak in-battle dialogue options are 1. reviving a fainted mon 2. switching to a second party member (this also can crash the game) ..... My question is whether there might be a dialogue option for other things. In those games your rival can have a Shiny starter, you could also win without taking damage, win by moves like counter/mirror coat, get statuses and/or heal them, etc. How many dialogue options did they put in?
Your rival CAN'T have a shiny starter pokemon due to how the trainer battles are coded. It's the same reason why Wally can't have a shiny Ralts if he catches on, the battles are hard coded to be a specific way. The only instances I've seen of NPCs having random shiny pokemon gen 3 games have been romhacks where the method used to increase the shiny odds changes how the game determines shiny pokemon entirely (thus making lots of 'false' shiny mons that will appear non shiny if checked in PKHex for example) rather than just heightening chance.
@@zoranadraws I have seen many versions of the game where the rival.and NPC trainers can have shiny Pokemon in their party. It is typically in modded versions of the game. The point is that there is custom Oak dialogue on the first rival battle programmed in the ACTUAL GBA of game. in spite being unlikely to ever likely to see it unless they use randomizers or cheats to change what you have prior to that battle. (and I wonder just how many could exist beyond what we normally see).
@@storymaster21 Modded means it's a romhack. Romhacks are just modified roms. A randomized rom is a romhack to make the mons random, even if it's a small change compared to other romhacks. The rival can't ever have a shiny in the official games. And doing a skim through the text for that battle in an unmodified rom dumped from the physical cart doesn't mention anything about shiny pokemon.
He just went insane and wanted it to be true. My theory: the misremembering viewer wonder traded someone, received a Vikavolt around the time they had a Charjabug in their party while facing that Island Challenge, and had a DIFFERENT Pokémon evolve.
My cousin played a lot of pokemon go with her dad when she was quite young, and it got to a point where she could recognize the cries of all of the first generation of pokemon within a couple of seconds. It was truly impressive

No cuz the part with the shiny Cyndaquil was so hauntingly beautiful actually?? The message about games being what we get out of it and our own emotional connections and feelings towards it???? Beautiful 100/10 This really was a blast of a video! A mix of old and new facts, new tests and theories, and more of the fun style of editing and commentary was really great to watch
Since Metagross is added to the pokedex as caught, what happens if you have an empty party slot? Would it join your party or would you still have an empty slot?
I think what is happening is that the game considers Metang as one of your party Pokemon during the battle, up until the map loads at the end. Then, when it evolves it adds Metagross to your Pokedex like any other time your Pokemon evolves and you obtain their Pokedex entry.
i sort of doubt it anyway, but i think with an empty party slot/one less exploder you might not actually be able to get enough exp to evolve the metang in the first place
i'd just like it to be known that for some reason, your last video got recommended to me 2 or 3 days ago, and thus i was really confused when this said "uploaded 5 hours ago" today
i guess a bunch of people would probably say you're "wasting your time" doing things like this, but i dont see it that way. pokemon is such an incredibly deep series, and its all these tiny nuances that make the franchise so fun, memorable, replayable, and above all, LOVED by so many people. these rumours are built on love -- telling tales around the playground as kids, playing it so intensely you start to have vivid dreams you swear were true... so thank you guys so much for testing things like this. its stuff we've all heard, all wondered about, but the fact there are people like you out there willing to test these ideas, and put to rest (or better yet, VINDICATE!) the rumours that have haunted us since children means so much. i hope people dont take your incredible dedication for granted. i adore your videos, and deeply admire your passion and commitment. this is not a waste of time, its a beautiful show of your love. thank you phin and wyatt! ❤
The Magnetic Field thing isn't a Gen 7 thing, that has been around since Gen 4 Actually, Mt Corenet and Chargestone Cave is the only ways to obtain a Magnezone and Probopass in DPPt and BW/BW2 because of the Magnetic Charge in the areas
As someone who has used ROM editors, every trained fight in the GBA games is stored separately, every fight can be edited individually, as they do not communicate between them. Every trained has multiple NPC entities, one for each location they appear
Here's a fun Sun and Moon (or maybe USUM) fact: if you evolve your starter at the very beginning of the game, it changes the early cut scenes in minor ways

As a kid I actually defeated the shiny Gyarados instead of catching it. I think it was an accident and i also did the same for the roaming Raikou. They both reappeared after I finished the main story
Any of the ones about manipulating an NPC’s Pokémon is the kind of thing where you understand why people say it but it’s also quite obvious why it wouldn’t work. Whenever the game pulls fight data it isn’t like for whatever reason calling upon previous party data and just adding levels and what not, it is a specific data entry that is called upon.
I have two useless but random Pokémon facts. 1) in black and white in Castelia City, when you’re in the busy alleyways, when you try running into or in the way of the npcs walking by, they would walk around you and you can’t talk to them. However, there is a chance for a npc to stop if you’re in front of them and you can talk to them. It’s not so special dialogue, but I never heard anyone talk about it. 2) in Pokémon go, both Noibat and Notvern have the flying type background like Tornadus because they’re flying/dragon, the key being flying came first instead of dragon.
Editing goes SO HARD this is you in your element and it's amazing dude! First the midwest emo edit the other vid and now you going insane with Charjabug. Absolutely love it man, such a vibe keep it up :)

The running myth.... You never heard of speedrunning pokemon? They known for years. 😱
"This place is crawling with this pokemon and absolutely none of its evolved form, this must be a place where they evolve." That's some flawless logic there 😂
It’s sound logic when using video game logic😂
In FR/LG Oak has hidden dialogue that you get during the very first rival fight. Some you see normally by doing the following:
1. using a healing item
2. using non daamaage moves
3. dealing damage
BUT there is a secret set if dialogue for TWO scenarios that would normally never happen because you only have one Pokemon and you lack a revival item. These secret Oak in-battle dialogue options are
1. reviving a fainted mon
2. switching to a second party member (this also can crash the game)
.....
The ending of Grubin's Quest was kind of confusing, is the myth actually confirmed or was that just part of the skit?
Ultra games did make Charjabug be evolved in the fenced power plant area which is AFTER the the mountain challenge
So probably not lol
He just went insane and wanted it to be true. My theory: the misremembering viewer wonder traded someone, received a Vikavolt around the time they had a Charjabug in their party while facing that Island Challenge, and had a DIFFERENT Pokémon evolve.
This is important, scientific research being done. Give that boy a government grant.
16:13 I've played enough of Hoenn to determine both of those cries weren't Latios and I said who they belonged to the same time you did 😭🎺🎺🎺
Yeah wasn't even hard tbh 😅
My cousin played a lot of pokemon go with her dad when she was quite young, and it got to a point where she could recognize the cries of all of the first generation of pokemon within a couple of seconds. It was truly impressive
I’m not familiar with Hoenn cries in the slightest and wasn’t expecting a twist “neither are Latios” but even I was like “man idk I wouldn’t say EITHER of those sound like Latios” despite not even knowing what Latios sounds like lmao
@@poppyseed799 Im saying I visualized them popping on screen and everything. Idk every soundbite but those in particular are memorable.
@@minutosdesapercibidosesp-e4508 Maybe for hardcore fans since they're relatively common spawns, sure. The sound bites were from GBA however so unless you played the games authenticity, it would be more difficult for newer fans because cries have been modernized.
Really loved this video, but my only comment is that the music was too loud on certain parts and i couldn't hear the narration properly, other than that, fantastic work! Will sub! 😊
The greatest anti-ad ad I've seen 😂
Wait, so is the Charjabug thing true or not?
Funny enough I knocked out the gyrados by accident when I played the game like 12 years ago and then found an gameFAQ thready saying I can recatch it after beating the elite four. Deadass gameFAQ was the goat back then
Fr. Sometimes I wouldn’t even trust other sites wit info on games. Gamefaqs was goated to me a verified😂

thanks for introducing me to the softies, i have no idea where you find a lot of your music for these videos but its what makes your videos feel so personal
Check out some of rose melbergs solo stuff too! I dig and hunt for the best shit no one’s listening too
Love the vibes of these videos, feel like I’m being transported to the 90’s
No cuz the part with the shiny Cyndaquil was so hauntingly beautiful actually?? The message about games being what we get out of it and our own emotional connections and feelings towards it???? Beautiful 100/10
This really was a blast of a video!
Wait, I'm lost because of the skit and the sort of. What was confirmed with Charjabug?
Same
Ditto
@@Razzberry_dollzno it was Charjabug
It was confirmed that it Evolved after the dialog of such
@@AlizarinRed from someone who played those games once at launch that was not clear at all lol
i guess a bunch of people would probably say you're "wasting your time" doing things like this, but i dont see it that way. pokemon is such an incredibly deep series, and its all these tiny nuances that make the franchise so fun, memorable, replayable, and above all, LOVED by so many people. these rumours are built on love -- telling tales around the playground as kids, playing it so intensely you start to have vivid dreams you swear were true...
so thank you guys so much for testing things like this. its stuff we've all heard, all wondered about, but the fact there are people like you out there willing to test these ideas, and put to rest (or better yet, VINDICATE!) the rumours that have haunted us since children means so much. i hope people dont take your incredible dedication for granted. i adore your videos, and deeply admire your passion and commitment. this is not a waste of time, its a beautiful show of your love. thank you phin and wyatt! ❤
Thank you Grey!!
the ad you put in the video, is the kind of ad even youtube premium can’t avoid
Drag the progress bar all the way to 10 seconds before the end of the video, let it finish, then drag it all the way back to the beginning and hit play, no ads. Fuck Ads and Fuck UA-cam Premium.
I used to do that, I got premium though because when there were ads a couple years ago, Amy Schumer had this ridiculous ad of her putting a tampon in her mouth that played nearly EVERY time an ad played. And there's 0 way to report/block an ad from playing so I gave in to the dark side to spare myself from ever having to look at that monstrous woman ever again >.
@sinny5404 Valid, I remember I used to think she was funny, then I grew up and got a Girlfriend. Respect
Just wanted to let you know I really appreciate the effort that went into this video. Not just the effort behind proper testing, but the editing, scripting, it's all superb.
10:52 there's a point at the power plant, but I don't know if that's Ultra or regular Sun and Moon
its ultra only
@idklolwut probably because the complaints from regular Sun and Moon
I think about the "FUCK YOU, FINNEON" from your Softlock video all the time. :) I love your videos!
Love the artistic direction on this video
ngl, did not expect him to look like that
The 1 year later update sections have way too loud background music, I know it is recorded later on, but the audio quality and mixing are rough.
That intro ad was so well done and I haven't seen your stuff before, that I didn't realize it was new stuff slipped into the old footage for a minute. Take my sub, boy.
Okay so... the chargabug DOESN'T evolve right
The anti AD Advertisement was genius brother. 🚬
hey love your content but a bit of criticism, the music is sometimes pretty loud
As a kid I actually defeated the shiny Gyarados instead of catching it. I think it was an accident and i also did the same for the roaming Raikou. They both reappeared after I finished the main story
What fossil will be in the fuschia city museum if you brock through walls and dont pick up a fossil? Or if you cheat and get both
Getting mad Pop Fiction vibes from the new videos (the old ones from gametrailers). Great stuff man.
No shot someone just mentioned pop fiction. You are a g.o.a.t
Finally another phin video to occupy my headspace for the next 2 weeks
As a kid, I ran out of poke balls on the red gyarados so I had to knock it out, I thought it was gonna be gone forever
kudos to wyatt for offering himself as sacrifice to the 24-hour USUM playthrough. he will be missed
This guy has some of the craziest production quality I swear I love the decisions he makes

Liking just for the ad cracking me tf up
This UA-cam premium ad is hilarious, I’ve never been more entertained by an ad 👌🏼👏🏼😂
it's our boy phin with a new video. Time to have a relaxing afternoon! (keep em up they are amazing!)
I've got an exam tomorrow which I need to study for, but i simply CANNOT skip one of ur vids
"You don't always need to have the things you love, sometimes knowing they exist is all you need" that made me cry
the scream for the unshiny cyndaquil sent me XD
that premium ad was legendary, I wish all ads were direct and down to earth as this, 🙌🙌🔥
I have two useless but random Pokémon facts.
LOL. I never got why vast pony canyon was the place to evolve nosepass and magneton
Editing goes SO HARD this is you in your element and it's amazing dude! First the midwest emo edit the other vid and now you going insane with Charjabug. Absolutely love it man, such a vibe keep it up :)
This was one of the best videos I have ever watched.
You forgot to cut the extra take at 22:33 hahahahaha
Regarding the Shiny Hunt of Death - Clearly Silver has stashed that Cyndaquil for use in Shiny Nuzlocke later
love this, love the editing getting moer stylized, great work!
dude, your videos are really killing it! i love watching your videos especially the personal touch you add to them ❤
I was expecting to feel a little nostalgia watching a few of these clips, but was absolutely smashed with it when you used the BGM music for Tank Racer at 14:58 onwards. Thank you for that 🙏
Love the genuine joy every time Metang used Iron Defense
Quiz: Which one is Latios?
Me: Neither? One is a rodent and the other a fish?
Wow....I was suprisingly close.
Bro's complaining about seeing ads in the sky while smoking 🌿
33:56 Throwback to when someone reset a Shiny Cyndaquil on stream a few years ago... 👀

That ad-read was hilarious! The semi-unscripted feel made it that much better, with the manic cigarette smoking, it was awesome! 👍
genuinely had no idea your swag levels were this unparalleled, ur dripped tf out
ughhh, i love your music choices so much. i recognized jejune the very second those opening chords played
perfect timing! was just heading off to sleep :)
