Great use of the Genesis' limited color palette. I guess only certain developers like Treasure Games, and Ancient could develop games that look so colorful without a huge selection of colors to use. It's all about how you properly PROGRAM games.
Nintendo was known for quality control an color (cartoony) . Sega an Sony seem more for approving any company that could front the cash needed to make the cart.
This game was a masterpiece. Sega's competitor to The Legend of Zelda, a Link to the past. Although not a at all in the same league as the latter, this game showed the Genesis's potential. A great adventure game with GORGEOUS graphics for the time.

Man this is really impressive for a late 16-bit game, but I don’t remember it at all. SEGA was still pushing Vector Man at the time, and the various ports of Virtua Fighter. But holy cow this looks incredible.
I think the key is that everything is very well drawn (the sprites only need subtle animation as they're always suggesting a fluid movement). The geometry and perspective is always considered - it's very visually pleasing and clean. It's _graphic design_ and animation is more impressive, rather than technical "computer graphics" ie: something like Donkey Kong Country.

Wow, graphics still look great for such an old game! Great use of colors for a Genesis game too! 🧐👍 A great competitor to Zelda on the Snes - a good run for it's money anyway - especially, the graphics!
Probably many people don't know, but there is a sequel called "The legend of Oasis/ Story of Thor 2" on the Sega Saturn, and it's absolutely brilliant! It's one of Saturn's hidden gems, and it's far superior than the first game in every possible way. Can't comprehend why it wasn't as popular! Seriously, check it out!
I remembered this game! One of my all time fav! This game was little known but deserved a lot more credits than it got. I really hope they can make a ps 4 or 5 version.
Gotta love how they use sound effects from the streets of rage games. That was always one of my favorite elements from this game. That and how the soundtrack sounds similar to shining force 2. One of my favorite games for sure. On par with, if not better than link to the past. Sega was the sleeper hit producer back in its heyday. Miss the golden years...
One of my top 3 Genesis games, the other two being "Wonder Boy in Monster World" and "Sonic the Hedgehog". I owned something around 40 games, but those are the three I always came back to. Also, I tell ya what - that secret pit may be a hassle, but the sword definitely makes things easier later on. Wish I knew about it on my first couple of playthroughs.
I remember playing this on the Sega Channel back in the 90's, great memories. got to the final dungeon and got stuck. try it again couple months ago on android phone, controls on the app emulator were horrible, unplayable.
I got to grow up with this game, and it's an absolute gem. I own Legend of Oasis on Saturn, and I found that one harder to enjoy for some reason. Maybe it's because fights last too long for my tastes?
This is the first time I've actually seen this game. By 1994 I think I was too busy with the SNES and in a rush to move into 3D games with the Playstation on the horizon. In hindsight Ridge Racer and co could have waited a bit longer and I should have picked this up. I think this would have sat quite well as a Wonder Boy titled game, but that's because Wonder Boy and Wonder Boy In Monster Land are my favourite Arcade platform games. Very Very Impressive. Edit - I don't believe it! I've just been looking to see if this game is available on current consoles and I already own it as part of the Sega Megadrive Classics collection on Nintendo Switch. As I recall, I rented this back in the day and got quite far, possibly even finished it. It's certainly one of the best looking games on the system :)
Same here, haha!
The quality of the graphics and the animation is insane. Just epic game: real time fight + RPG, with storylines and art style is what I like.
There is a sequel on Saturn called Legend of Oasis as well
From what I've seen, the sequel was quite the looker as well; definitely played to the Saturn's strengths.
