An extremely ambitious and over the top game for its time and it's pretty awesome to look at. The gameplay and soundtrack is incredible. Imagine a game like this today. It could sell millions.
This is yet another example of how awesome Capcom was back in the day, pumping out several amazing games within a decade. What a time to be alive. I love that they put those Moai statues in as enemies; between this and all the times Moai have been used as enemies in Konami games, I have to wonder what the decision was for Japanese developers to use them in this way? I've always loved it.
I heard some time in the early 90s in Japan, there was a big fascination with ancient cultures like the Egyptians and Polynesians. Thinking about it, it is evident in a lot of games, anime, and even super sentai of the era.
I imagine because they are part of history that is lost to time and has become mysterious and notable because of that mystery. Something that is easy to use as a fantasy enemy.
I play this one a lot and its super fun. Having those companions really make this game standout. My favorite ones are the knight, the ninja, the thief and the wizard.
I’ll remember when this game first came to the arcade in the mall of my small hometown. Such a timeless classic that has aged well. Wish this came on the arcade 1up cab.
What an awesome game this was, I remember when it was out in the arcade and everyone was constantly playing it. The snes version wasn’t bad either. Capcom has had so many good arcade titles it’s unbelievable
The artists behind these games were really well adept in the use of color. Their games were visual masterpieces. Sf2 was a great example of the artists using color to create beautiful backgrounds. Dalsim stage, Vega stage in France, Chun li stage, Ehonda stage, the colors were so bright and created a warm atmosphere. To me the top two companies with the best artists were Capcom and Neo Geo
Vega's stage is in Spain. But I agree, the key secret of these games is the amazing color usage. I remember the first time I saw Guile's stage, I was confused thinking it was a real plane.
Neo Geo is not a company, but an arcade board system manufactured by SNK. They did make more games for the system than any other company, though, so maybe you meant SNK. Neo Geo had a very impressive life span, with games for it being made from 1990 to 2004. It was special for being cartridge-based, so the same board and cabinet could play different games by just having the cartridge switched. There were multi-slot versions of the Neo Geo MVS, with even as many as 6 cartridge slots, which meant that you could change between the games by just accessing the service menu.
I remember in the early 90s our county fair had a big arcade tent in the midway. It was there that I first encountered this gem in-cabinet. That machine gorged itself on my quarters! I have always been enamored by its design, characters &dynamics. My favorite loyal subjects are the white wizard, dark mage, gargoyle &knight. Favorite minor enemies are skeletal warriors, floating specters &mummies!!!
There's quite a few hidden secrets throughout the game, on a few stages there's a hidden door that lets you skip ahead a few stages 53:38 That stone power up turns your regular blue charge beam into the much stronger red version, ideally you'd hold onto that till the final boss. Failing that, the spiked gauntlet increases the attack power of your regular attack (not the charge beam) At least you managed to get the maxed level lizardman, the best support character
Another AWESOME CapCom game from back in ye` good olden days :))) I cannot count how many hours i played this(and other great classics) at my local arcade(and other arcades) :) Gameplay, etc, and the music was epic! :) Btw: My favorite level music is the one played at level 38 & 45 :) And well played! :)
When they put this game on the snes i couldnt believe it. The game feels like it has no ending. So i get unlimited play time out of one game, and it happens to be a really good game. Snes version is plagued with slowdown but i couldnt care any less. This game is that good. Capcom was the king back then. Their snes games were just as impressive as their arcade counterparts. When the snes mini came out and the hack was made, this was the 1st game i added to it.
We played it soo much! (I don´t even know how many 5 czech crowns - 0,2 Eur- I drowned in it). Well, until some sport additcts let it change for football, then ice hockey and then they cancelled the rent. Grrrr!
as with most games, i prefered the snes version. Arcade in all honor, but owning the games were always a better feeling. And it felt like the home versions had better audio in them.
Magic Sword shares a lot of similar stuff of Devil May Cry 3. Both games you start at a base of a tower and enter to kill demons and eventually reach the roo of the tower.
I remember seeing this game along time ago next to Battletoads arcade, Blood Storm, Alien Vs Predator. It was easier and better balance than Magician Lord, and more intense than Rastan.
So, when it comes to the ally characters, stick to the javelin guy once you've found him? And apparently floor 37 then forces you to change to the lizard man?
While the game was technically awesome I found it to be a bit too hard compared to other Capcom titles back then. But my biggest gripe wih the game was that it's too long, which after a while made the gameplay loop and especially the audio design quite repetitive and even annoying. I never really loved this despite Black Tiger being my all time favourite arcade.
I remember capcom used to dominate the arcade with fantasy-only games. It was one after another, and they were all creative and fun.

Not it looking like this, it would have to heavily reworked into the game being heavily story based, and have plenty of DLC.
That's kind of what Dragon's Dogma (Capcom) is, or Dragon's Crown (Vanillaware - consisting largely of this era of former Capcom employees)
Check games called Demons of Asteborg and Astebros.
Beautiful game. 80s and 90s Capcom was pure art.

They look like assets from Forgotten Worlds. They're kind of out of place here, not a fan.
I imagine because they are part of history that is lost to time and has become mysterious and notable because of that mystery. Something that is easy to use as a fantasy enemy.
@@jackjude Out of place when there are ninjas in the game?

No wonder we loved the arcades
One of the best games ever. A truly masterpiece
What an awesome game this was, I remember when it was out in the arcade and everyone was constantly playing it. The snes version wasn’t bad either. Capcom has had so many good arcade titles it’s unbelievable
Fun game! It's on the Capcom Classics Collection Vol 2. on PS2. The 2-player-mode is where this game especially shines.
This game is also in Final Fight: Double Impact on XBLA.

This was in my roller-skating rink back in the 90's. Amazon archer was my bae. 💘
Thanx 4 posting!

Ah, the Engrish of the prisoners. "Get me escape!" "Get rid of me!" Lovely.
Classic arcade goodness. Playing this game is like snacking down on a big bag of popcorn

Cool game, Lizardman,Bigman and the Knight are my favorites.
yo did it using one credit....such an amazing skill! kudos.
"Wuyah! Wuyah! Wuyah!"
Wow!! Este juego es muy largo, nunca pude terminarlo con un solo crédito. ¡¡Felicitaciones!!

I’ve never seen this game before it so chaotic an I love it like so many enemies plenty of power ups useful AI this is great
Amazing game, brings back so many memories! Wizard on full strength was leathal!!!
2:47 "Evacuate me!"
5:56 "Get me escape!"
Gotta love that classic Engrish.
We played it soo much! (I don´t even know how many 5 czech crowns - 0,2 Eur- I drowned in it). Well, until some sport additcts let it change for football, then ice hockey and then they cancelled the rent. Grrrr!
epic arcade game, still fun playing it
"WiYAH!" "THANK YOU!" Classic.
as with most games, i prefered the snes version. Arcade in all honor, but owning the games were always a better feeling. And it felt like the home versions had better audio in them.
Ah. Nostalgia. Lizardman was my favorite companion.
Fun game, the sidekick thing was a good idea. Shame you can't actually play as the other characters though. Let the Big Man sort out them fanny-baws.
I mean, you essentially do play as the other characters. They attack when you attack.
Magic Sword shares a lot of similar stuff of Devil May Cry 3.
Both games you start at a base of a tower and enter to kill demons and eventually reach the roo of the tower.
Nice game. I hope the Black tiger © licence will be develop again by Capcom. I dream about a real sequel of Black tiger in 2D. Oh by the way : i really love your logo. 😉
Holy FUCK......Ive been looking for the name of this game for like 35years
Wow, totally forgot this game, ta!
Loved this early 90s capcom era, will check my pi4 to see if its on it?
I did but this on the Double Impact bundle from the Xbox 360. The bundle contained Final Fight & Magic Sword. I think is it time for a remake.
I remember seeing this game along time ago next to Battletoads arcade, Blood Storm, Alien Vs Predator. It was easier and better balance than Magician Lord, and more intense than Rastan.
Magic Sword is also available on Super Nintendo and Xbox 360.
Ok, I wouldn’t mind playing this game, it looks quite fun, also I wish they had put it on the Sega Genesis system!?!?
Magic Sword Longplay (Arcade) [4K]
awesome video .
excellent performance
BOOYAH!
Genesis needs a Homebrew version of this!
So, when it comes to the ally characters, stick to the javelin guy once you've found him? And apparently floor 37 then forces you to change to the lizard man?
A ninja in a sword and sandals fantasy game? Interesting.
Hey AL, do you have a CarnEvil longplay? If not it'd be awesome if you could do one, loved that game at the arcade as a kid.
"Evil has been vanquised for now"
Magic sword,gran gioco !
One of my favorites. A true quarter muncher.
Can someone tell me what is he saying when he shots magic? I played this game since I was a kid and never knew what the hell he yells
Golden Axe meets Diablo and Volgar the Viking and Castlevania
I have a game in mind but I do not know the name of it, would any of yall be able to help me out?
wuuya

I liked this game except for one aspect: the constant "BOOYA" unleashed.
How can you get enough food??
I mistakened this game for Black Tiger lol
The game mechanics are similar, but story and characters are not.
BOOOYYY-YAAHHH BOOOYYY-YAAHHH BOOOYYY-YAAHHH BOOOYYY-YAAHHH
BOO-YAH!
BOO-YAH!
BOO-YAH BOO-YAH!
I swear i've heard "BooYahh!" over a number of capcom arcade games.
Why you have to start over from the beginning when you die in this game !!
Po minucie mialem dosc
Fucking Dark Lord looks like Skeletor. Big nope.
1:02:51
Booo yaaah!!!
the most banal game i've played 🤮🤮🤮🤮
