Drove as a passenger more than 20 years ago in the pre-Facelift 530d but with same interior. Man, that car was at that time beyond anything else on the autobahn.
I've got this car but mine is the touring version. It's definitely way ahead of its time. It was my father's car and I'll always take care of it, memories are too powerful. It's the best car that was ever built.
Sorry... i just told the driver not to that at cold engine (he has not much knowledge about car engine), next time he will do not again at cold engine. I told him that cold winter need at least 20-30 min to reach optimal water cooling, engine oil, and transmission oil temperature.
Yes soon maybe with old c class and bmw 3 e46, and i am planning buy old car and review it and detailing at bit and sell more cash, but it need also many views and success that i can not lose much money after bad selling
@@TESTDRIVEFREAK Oh nein Pass auf was du machst.
just as you carry this diesel it doesn't last long. because diesel cars don't drive so high revs. when it is in the blue zone you should not let it exceed 1500 and when it passes the blue zone no more than 2000 until it reaches temperature
Naaaah bunch of BS . I had multiple diesels in my family ( probably more than 10 cars) and if you wait every single time to reach perfect temp you will get crazy. I push my car to the max after 70°c, no need to wait full temp. These are robust engines ,made for day to day activity.
Not bad for an oil burner... but somehow not as fast or as refined as the 1998 non vanos E39 540i I used to have... In that car, you just could not hear the engine inside the cabin with all the windows up... In this E39 530d the engine is pretty loud inside the cabin !
540i from that era still slow for the engine size and unreliable, the diesels were far better each revision, especially when remapped and that Diesel engine is still being made and used 25 years later
@@DG-EditsYT The non Vanos 4.4 540's where decently fast as they had steel cable throttle linkage. The later 4.4 Vanos ones were trouble ! (with the newer updated TU Vanos engines that were also shared with the 740i/840i/X5 and Range Rover of that era) were painfully slow because of the drive by wire throttle linkage where the ECU computer controlled the throttle input. The diesel E39 530d were great as they never had Vanos and like you said they could be tuned to outperform the 4.4 easily with a remap ! :)
y have the same car , and a second one manual , y hate that automatic gearbox !! pause at 2:55 , almost 3000rpm to get to 60km/h, why ? and that engine is cold ! my manual gearbox y change it at 1200rpm , this what y hate on those aytomatic boxes , engine make a lot of noise , 3000rpm and no speed ...
He doesn’t know how to drive it .I just bought one and came from Germany .You just need to lift the foot of the pedal on 3000 revs for exemple, and it will change the upper gear imediately. No need to keep it on 4000 revs for to long .
The deep raw engine noise, indicator sound, interior, the solid door closure and the exterior! I love it! This is my absolute hero car!

A car for travelling until the end of the world...240 km/h almost effortless and that six on line beautiful sound. Yes, I like this car...good video!!
One of the rarest cars which was already a legend during it's production. Thank you for filming it 👍
That poor cold 🥶 engine
He revs it to over 4000 although the engine is absolutly cold.
Ithis engine is a beast ! M57 does anything But wont break if maintenced right 🤩🚗🙏
I had a 530d Sport remapped only, it was fast, comfortable and great build, one of my favourite cars
Das ist noch ein echter BMW ! Geiles Auto !
I can listen to this sound all day. Love e39
160 km/h with 2800 rpm and 220 with 3900 rpm = a long lasting engine. Love it.
Sau geil. Gerne mehr von den älteren Fahrzeugen!
My fav old car 😍🔥
Poor engine, let it warm up first bro :(

Yeah, it sounds unusual like there is knocking noise :3
Awesome, that you review youngtimer with the same video format, to compare with modern cars.

like me, a couple of cold strokes and I had to put the new head because the old one was completely broken
Beautiful car
That interior is clean tho
I love these cars! 1:48

You cannot compare a 4.4 V8 with diesel , even if it is 3.0cc diesel engine , even the 3.0i with 231hp is faster
Those cars are still nice to drive but man, that transmission really is archaic. Better get a manual one.
Don't hold your key that long when starting the engine. That will kill starter
That gearbox though, what the hell its trying to do😂😂 prefer the manual
Old autos are a bit clunky
E39 just need a 6th shift, he screaming in 5th 😢
Cold engine 4000rpm... You should travel by bus
Is a good transmition? I always used manual and not idea if is a good option to buy
I would buy manual for this model
@@dimmacommunication I prefer manual to. But is a unit very well conserved
I Am a sea of doubt
Warum trittst du einen kalten Diesel ? Zu viel Geld ?
mby lx570?
5:28 a "mere" 140 kmh yet more than 14 liters per 100 km ?
Does the road look level to you?
Thermostats doesnt good working, 5min drive and drive on autobahn a still cold
German autobahn?
Yes
LKW sound

old autos tend to stay up in the rev range , also when used the stay even higher

gearbox is shitty, old oil or something else
