I have successfully updated Sonoma 14.3.1 on my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and its working perfect. For those with a machine like mine, you can update its working perfect. At the end Opencore Legacy Patcher prompt fixed the graphic driver and wife. Now I am on Sonoma 14.3.1 on my MacBook Pro mid 2012.

Macbook Pro 11,3 (Mid 2014 15 inch Nvidia GPU 750M) here updated to 14.3.1 on OCLP 1.3.0. No issues, just a few reboots and a lot of post install patches. Initially Wifi didn't work but that sorted itself out with the post install patches and reboots. Seems to be working flawlessly now.

Upgraded MBP9,1 Mid 2012 to Sonoma 14.3 (not 14.3.1). Mostly good. Hand written notes (sync'd from my iPad) render fine on the MBP display, but when I attach an external Dell U2414H monitor, the handwritten stuff is blank. Sometimes the display flickers. Graphics is NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M and Intel HD Graphics 4000.
Thanks so much extending the life of my Mac!

Since you asked, my 2010 Mac Pro is on Monterey. I am thinking of updating the 2014 Mini (2.6 GHz i5) to Sonoma just to use it for a couple more years, but that isn't a problem until early next year since it is still supported in Monterey.

Maybe unrelated, but I've noticed my OCL 1.3.0 systems not prompt for "some" Apple App updates. Have a iMacPro Intel that shows all the App Store Updates, a 09 MacPro 5,1 consistently does not auto-show all updates. But for those that do not show needing updates that the iMacPro does.... I can open the App Store App and it shows the Update Button. I can do this, but if it wasn't for a non-OPL Intel system identifying all the Apps, it'd go unnoticed. Exp: Final Cut, Motion, Compressor and several Photography Apps are not showing as Pending Updates from the APP Update section, but all show "update" when going to each App within the App Store, and they Update clean once manually selected.

Thanks Sir ❤, (Air M1 2020) Sir I have problem in Safari browser, that is, pointers misbehave, if I am hovering on a link, then it should show pointer as hand, but it is not like that, I have complained at apple care more that 6 times, they told me to do reinstallation, And I have done it as well, so here I configured that, this problem is not in Ventura, it is only coming in SONOMA (14.3.1 and in previous versions of sonoma as well). and also, this problem is not looking in Chrome or Firefox.
If possible, then make a video to resolve this.

Great Video. I did it on my 2015 iMac and everything works EXCEPT the built-in iSight FT camera lags and is stuttery no matter what. Facetime or zoom. Any suggestions? Also does this when using hte iphone as the camera so something about motion in video for input devices. Works perfectly for watching videos though.

I had 14.3 installed on my MBA 6,2 for a while and went to do a reinstall and after that it would not complete the installation. Even tried older Sonoma version and no dice. Not sure if open core legacy pater needs another update or not but I would advise against updating for a while.

My 2007 iMac 20 inch with a T9500 core duo upgraded fully unattended. Resulting in a fully usable Mac. The OCLP auto run after the update worked very well. I find letting the machine marinate for 10 minutes after it boots for the first time after the update finishes works great for both eliminating the slow initial I/O and the automatic post install OCLP process to occur.

First I would like to say thanks for the great content. Since you are king on Apple Knowledge on how to do things the way Apple did not intend, I have an idea for a video: How to install unsuported OS on Apple Virtualization Framework. Like OpenBSD or Asahi. I meant only with the example Xcode on the developer wwdc site. Or VirtualBuddy which is just a gui for the demo example. It seems to refuse to boot cause of some EFI which goes beyondy knowledge on how to fix it. Maybe copying m1n1 + u-boot + esp imgs to the vm could be a fix and then allow to boot any os on the AVF.

Great video as usual Mr. Macintosh! Quick question I've got OCLP running on a late 2012 Mac mini 2.3 I7 currently with 14.3. Since upgrading from 10.14 (I was a long time hold out). The system runs great! Having an issue where it goes to sleep and if it's there more than 5-6 hours the keyboard, mouse, are completely unresponsive. I switched out of the Sonoma wallpaper, and screen saver as that created issues on a 2012 iMac. The only solution has been to force shut down the Mini. Have you seen this on your 2012?

    • @Mr.Macintosh

On my MBP 2012, I downloaded the installer for 14.3.1 using the link provided but OCLP reads it as 14.3 (23D56). Tried creating a MacOS boot installer with OCLP 1.3.0 while on 14.3 and kept getting an error message the formatting of the USB failed. Updating using the software updater generated an initial error but it downloaded after restart. Holding off until 1.4.0 comes out.
Update: After downloading through software updater and holding my breath during restart, the OS booted without any acceleration. Once it got through the slow booting sequence, OCLP detected the patches needed to be applied and went through its process, then rebooted as normal. I was able to create the boot installer but this time it correctly downloaded the 14.3.1 full update and the USB was created successfully. Not sure what was going on before. Remember to create a Time Machine backup before doing the update.

Honestly, I have a mid year 2011 imac, and Sonoma has been a pain in the a..! I tried it out and reverted to Ventura, due to too many glitches and slowness (all those lovely but dam..dable HD screen savers). BUT Sonoma, against my wishes, installed itself recently, though I had not permitted automatic downloads or updates, and it screwed my mac up. Had to go back to High Sierra and make a USB installer to get 14.3 in properly and do some surgery on my disks to get rid of that automatic downloaded update that had managed to cross the partition! Anyway, I am trying this latest Sonoma update now, having downloaded and installed the necessary kdk as advised in above video. OCLP actually did go looking for it as soon as i agreed to start the download of 14.3.1. Waiting to see what happens next. Screen still ok, as I write this🤣 UPDATE: writing from High Sierra. Sonoma 14.3.1 a no go on imac even with OCLP, that is to say, letting Sonoma upgrade itself. Maybe would have worked if I'd used USB installer stick with the updated installer? Right now, same stroke like lameness I had when Sonoma installed itself off my Ventura. Will have to wait for OCLP updates or do all the work to revert back to plain 14.3.0. 🙄

      Memory 24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
      Startup Disk Macintosh HD
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
I watched your video where you do a clean wipe and add sonoma, and I followed step by step and everything worked fine all the way up to restarting and installing the OS, it restarted 4-5 times while installing like normal and then I was met by a black screen and no login pop up, I tried turning it off and on and was met by the same install screen as in between reboots I get a short 3-5 second window before it starts loading and showing a black screen again, seems like it’s caught right on the end of the install, I also tried safe mode and has no effect, any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance

Hi. i have Imac 27 retina 2014, Intel Core i5, 33GB RAM, FusionDrive 1,12TB. I updated to OS Ventura, it works well. My MacBook Pro 11,1 has constant issues with web content, especially youtube. Sometimes videos won't even play and get a playback error causing me to restart, other times, I can't use keyboard shortcuts to move tabs in Safari. 14.1 was solid, 14.2 and 14.3 have had these niggling issues and its frustrating. Other times, I have issues waking from sleep and requires a hard shutdown. I noticed in my developer folder, I still only have KDK_14.0_23A5337a, is that expected or should it be on a newer version? OCLP up to date too.

Let me help you then, genius.
In the video, it is explained how to check the KDK version that is active on your system. If it does not match the current OS, it is recommended to follow the links provided and download and install the most recent version, assuming that is what you need. * See the video. *
Personally, I would wipe the drive, clean install the OS, confirm the KDK is correct, confirm all root patches are applied and active on the system and then see if the issues (which are really minor, by the way) you mention are still happening. I will bet you money they are no longer an issue. Do not migrate any user data to the clean install until you are able to prove or disprove reoccurrence. I suspect you have multiple issues causing all this, but none of it has anything to do with the version OS you have installed, OCLP, etc. The higher and harder you push this system, the more pronounced these things will become until you take the time to learn how to clean them up and prevent them in the first place. Educate yourself on Mac protocol, don't install a bunch of junk on your system, practice good hygiene in your use of your computer. Exposing your system to malware and unsavory web sites - including UA-cam, by the way - is guaranteed to catch up with you sooner or later.

However, my Mac *shouldn't* need a newer KDK as it is Intel graphics. I asked should I add the newer KDK anyway to see if that would help. For reference as you seem so keen to *help* I added the new KDK and updated and still have intermittent issues. As for clean install blah blah, yeah, I did that when I went to Sonoma and I only pull my documents over, everything else is cloud based and I don't use many 3rd party apps (Steam, Discord, Office, Box).

Realistically how safe is it to run this OCLP stuff on unsupported macs? Do you use your actual personal apple ID and info on these installs? Do you trust them to that level? I'd like to try this on my Mid 2015 15" with AMD Gpu, but not at the expense of my personal info getting stolen/hacked because of running this.

In what sense has it "killed" your MacBook?
It is always made very clear you should have a second Mac available! So you can create a new OCLP based or an official USB installer. So you should be able to just bring it back to life and restore your backup.
