Hope he got royalties, ya know
King , So impactful and beautiful about my brothers and about my own beliefs- Thank you so much for this! Love you! Jess
According to Keith Richards, he had a tape with this... His then girl Linda Keith gave the tape to Hendrix.... back in early 66...
My favorite version of this song is still the one by The Byrds from 1966, with vocal by David Crosby
gorgeous!
Chas Chandler always wanted to do the song, jimi cafe wha he seen jimi
He is a seat😢 guy trip,he wrote it
Later Deville sung this too.
Billy Roberts stole it from his girlfriend Niela Miller, whose original title was Baby Don’t Go Downtown. Niela Miller was well-known coffee-house folk singer who was singing her version of Hey Joe in 1955. She recorded the song on a demo album in 1962 prior to this recording. Roberts liked the song so much, that after changing the lyrics, he started performing it under a different title, Hey Joe, and copyrighted her song. When Hey Joe first came out with The Leaves and then Hendrix, other folk singers came up to Neila Miller and pointed out her old boyfriend had taken full credit for her song. Roberts changed some of the lyrics but the melody was lifted from her original song. Roberts never wrote another song of note, yet Neila had recorded an entire album of songs by 1962. Niela Miller's chord structure is EXACTLY the same as Hey Joe - built around the key of A, it’s F, C, G, D, A. Within the verse there is a secondary structure of A, C, D, G, A, C, D, G then it returns to the original sequence. Billy Roberts transposed it to E to suit his voice, slowed it down, and just used the first chord sequence (C, G, D, A, E). Listen To Niela's original song, Baby Don't Go Downtown, and tell me what you think.
Is this or is this not the same performer who is credited with the 1962 recording elsewhwere on UA-cam?
I would love to live there…
An awesome lost artifact. Please share the entire tape! Remarkable gem!
OMG! This isn’t Jimi’s song? I had no idea…and just hear Wilson Pickets version..amazing! his voice, the arrangement
I love this version. Lighter than the others. But powerful for all that.
It’s over Joe. Just let her go.
0:28 superb
Elegant❤
Helps to have shit loads of money and the delusional view that your one of the 12 chosen of the greatest artists that ever existed. I knew jeff for over 47 years and we had many talks .
findet das gut

Fantastic indeed, with not much instrumentation. Just that others that have recorded this song recorded it differently and taken the song 🎶 to other levels.
Playland during the fair was a tradition for me since the 80’s. all the carnival rides added in made it more fun to go. I worked there for a couple years in 97-98 just when pne took away the BC pavilion for that natural park. Man, those were the good old days of the PNE. now a days it’s all crap and over priced and less rides. Cheers for sharing this old memory🎉❤
Fantastic! Wonder from the perspective of mid 2024, if the pottery still exists! How on earth do international visitors transport these artworks away from the island and from Canada!
That was great-thank you,King❤
The Leaves had a top 40 hit with their rendition of this song. Love also did a very good cover too!
Is that being played on guitar?
12 string guitar
@@kingandersonartvideos84 okay thanks, I like this version. Thinking it may be a bango.
SUPER DOPE OG GRAFF AA DVS KREWS! BA! Love it! 90s!$
There are two great Cindy Lees. Right on.
So they used the King Solomon Hill song from 1932 as a theme. Cool enough. But I vastly prefer The King :D
this is classic, the musik express also playing some deep dish music fyi
Roberts plagiarized this tune from his girl friend at that time.
Was not a plagiarism, he took the idea and developped into another way. Though stealing the idea is not the best
Niela Miller don't take your love to town was the alleged inspiration.
Hendrix is honderd times better!!!!!!!
But this man was first. Jimmy had a template to work with and improve.
For sure, but it’s good to hear other versions, for example, Johnny Rivers psychedelic version.
'PromoSM'
luscious
The Leaves had a great version of "Hey Joe". It has a very different texture and flavor than this recording.
Very interesting. Seminal. But it makes you think about how songs evolve through artists and genres. There are a ton of good songs out there. But people have not figured out how to do them.
Which songs have people not figured out how to do? [Some of the comments here are counterfactual and frustrating!]
@@peterblecha906 For instance, most of the country songs by the Rolling Stones, as hypothetically done by country artists. Something penned by Ron Wood, e.g., "We all Get Old." The British rocker Graham Parker has many songs which could be re-done. This song right here was a mellow, folkie tune, which was done with an acid rock cast by Jimi Hendrix. Surprisingly, not all that many artists cross genres. I guess that takes a real artist. FYI: artistry as defined by Immanuel Kant has nothing to do with facts.
Thanks, great music! I grew up with Hendrix and love that one too.
I truly enjoyed this- in fact it was, by far, the highlight of my day! Thank you!
How can this be, As a very young boy I swear that I dreamed up this song in sleep and the next morning I was singing it all over my village and very shortly after I heard Jimi Hendrix Experience playing on my parents radio
think Jimi Hendrix and Bill Roberts were playing music at the same time in Seattle Washington and Jimi learned the song from Bill ...
That sounds very plausible!
@@kingandersonartvideos84 Jimi Hendrix split Seattle in May 1961. Well prior to Billy Roberts arriving.
It can't be. Unless you wrote the song and gave it to Roberts. The mind can play amazing tricks on the willing.
@@peterblecha906 didn't know that
Hey King. Just saw this. Thank you! This is Bonnie - the one in the bathtub with you and Brent and Bob.
