    I like this style of video, I can see myself going through these cues in my head when i'm squatting. It's really helpful to see a visual representation of the starting strength book and helps put things into perspective watching other people go through the cues.

    This video is amazingly helpful! I've been trying to lead with my chest, instead of my butt even though this is supposed to be a leg exercise... I've also been trying to break first with my knees instead of both hips and knees breaking at once, because I've heard knees are supposed to break first, but it feels so unnatural to have them break separately. Both breaking together feels so much more natural and correct for my body. Thank you for this! I used to lift weights and am getting back into it. I used to never squat because I heard it was so easy to mess up and destroy your back. I was fine with deadlifting though lol. This video gives me the confidence to try squatting now that I'm getting back on the saddle!

    When I first started lifting I just viewed the squat as a simple movement to train the legs. Just put the bar on your shoulders and go up and down.
    But it’s so much more than that. It’s such a complex movement. I’ve done more research on the back squat than any other lift and I’m STILL learning.

    I have rehabilitated 15 people using the starting strength model and all of them have become beast after a year of starting strength. When physical therapy fails you or bodybuilding fails you you'll pay good money to be trained by Alan thrall or any starting strength coach. P. S. Mark rippetoe is a barbell strength god sent to us from the cast iron plate heavens😇😇😇

  • @VegetoStevieD
    @VegetoStevieD 7 років тому +2

    I really don't understand all the hate for SS in the comments. I personally don't do EVERYTHING the SS way, but it's such a fantastic starting place to build skill, I don't see the problem here.
    When I first started studying Rippetoe's methods, I was a high bar squatter. I switched to SS method, and I sucked at it for a while, then I got better, and after a while I adapted into my own variation of it. It's well worth going through, even if you don't end up keeping EVERYTHING from the method.

  • @selfcritical
    @selfcritical 7 років тому

    I feel like for some of these clients, they're intuitively squatting very well (upper back is very set, they're pushing their back immediately against the bar out of the hole, very good bar path, bringing the hips forward well), and the hip drive cue is fixing a problem they don't have, and introducing other ones ( at least one client appears to be moving the bar forward from mid foot after getting the hip drive cue, and another one starts rounding his upper back immediately when you tell him to bend over more)

    • @selfcritical
      @selfcritical 7 років тому

      Dude. The guy (Vik i think) who rounds his upper back every time you say "bend over more" reports pain from doing so, and you just tell him it's supposed to work his back. That's....not great.

    I imagine a lot of novices have quite a bit of trouble getting the bar position with the SS prescribed thumbless grip and straight wrists, right? That was a huge struggle for me, but only in my right shoulder interestingly. I would get the worst pain in that shoulder (in the medial deltoid muscle itself). So bad I could barely focus on actually squatting and just wanted to get the damn thing off me as soon as possible.
    Fixed it with deep, painful lacrosse ball rolling of that medial deltoid everyday, plus some stretching in a doorway mimicking the squat bar position. That, and I believe light dumbbell lateral raises helped loosen up, tear down and regrow the stiff muscle fibers.

    • @HypronVideos
      @HypronVideos 7 років тому

      Yeah I'm having similar issues at the moments. My left shoulder is less flexible than my right shoulder and it's really hard for me to keep my left wrist straight. I've been stretching and it's getting better but I still got ways to go.

  • @HELPMEIDUNNOHOWTOUSE
    @HELPMEIDUNNOHOWTOUSE 7 років тому

    3x a week! I'd only recommend that if you were already pretty seasoned as a lifter and wanted to solely focus on the squat. Getting everybody to do 3x a week will mean that they'll more than likely end up neglecting their form at some stage and end up injuring themselves. Maybe 2x and a deadlift session would be better, protect the knees by training the hamstrings, and your quads would still get sufficient work during the deadlift as well

    this video is really that much helpful! because it is not only the technique what you show, but it is combined with some beginners problems and fails, and therefore one can learn so much from it, and combine it with the own problems, and maybe fixing them. I am stronger in low bar than high bar squat, but I have problems with my lower back all the time... I'm a far more better deadlifter than squater, no problems when deadlifting at all, although my deadlift begins from very high hips (almost romanian). but when squatting, I always get troubles with it. my back is not so relaxed than from the people in the video, also stretching doesnt help a lot. do you have maybe some special tips? and sorry for my bad english, native german :)
