I’m so sorry for your loss. Music has the ability to pull us back in time in all the best and worst ways, doesn’t it? The Counting Crows have a lyric that resonates with me - the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings. Of course, it can also bring great joy. Wishing you joy as you remember your wife when you listen to the music you shared. ❤️
Yeah, he will go down with the best poets! They will list Dave Matthews in future school books😂😂 Great musician but didn't write all of his own lyrics. Get your facts before making BOLD statements!
Such a complex song… jumping from his delusional thinking or imagination is a better word as he plays alone , in an imaginary world until reality hits him.
Two months after this song came out in 2001! My life changed in a different direction meeting my soulmate, changing jobs, and homes, then 911 happened. It is the song I'll never forget because it resonates with all that major change in my life as it played on.
Excuse me. What does 9/11 have to do with this? Did you lose anyone? I did. So, why are you referencing someone elses tragedy? Because the song was released "around" the same time? Stop with the using someone else's pain for your gain. Sick
@@MarieSchilling88 You must be smoking crack, because it has nothing to do with the tragedy! The only sick person is you. Trying to make some political statement thinking that you're better and you're not. All you are is ignorant and a troll.
Damn I forgot about this song and soon as I herd this, the memory of Highschool popped up and all my buddies hanging out. Geez where has the time gone? I miss the 90s and early 2000/s lol
In 2021 rainy day in Washington, what better music than to put on some Dave Matthews Band.Good music never goes out of style. And in the space between I probably will never stop listening to this Band.💜Much Love everybody....
This randomly came on when I was listening to random DMB songs on Spotify. And I haven't heard this song since it was on the radio a loooong time ago. When it first came out. WOW
Ever listen to a song long after hearing it and years later, then find yourself hearing it and suddenly you get it? Well that's this song for me right now in my current situation... it's weird.
I had a art history class in college and I’ll never forget my professor saying, “if you want to know what it was like in the past, study history. If you want to feel what it was like, study the arts.” This song really makes that point.
Some years ago I heard this song playing at an amusement park. I was with my kids. It hit me really hard, because that same amusement park my father took me and my siblings to. Just thinking about him and my mother this holiday season.
My middle school teacher introduced us to dmb, it’s been 5 years since that. I always find myself coming back to this song and I remember my teacher, she loved dmb and tea
My father passed away this time last year. Things were not good between us, and during that time this song popped into my head. The wicked lies...to keep safe from pain... Sadly true before and after his death. So this song has become quite a thing with me, dealing with so many thoughts I may have from time to time; the lyrics echoing things inside myself. But we're all okay. :)
I regret you never made amends. We get caught up in our own self- our pride ( the Space Between) that we forget the purpose of our life. I hope you have learned that. Sir, good luck and may you be at peace. All has been forgiven, ALL! Now, it’s your turn to shine. Learn from your Dad. He taught you lessons .,, but did you have the “ ear to listen”? No offence 😢intended. Rita
love this song , it reminds me of a simpler time. I grew up with Dave Matthews on the radio and just got to got to my first dmb concert at 30. I love this band.
The space between Where you smile and hide Is where you'll find me if I get to go The space between The bullets in our fire fight Is where I'll be hiding waiting for you The rain that falls Splashed in your heart Ran like sadness down the window into your room The space between our wicked lies is Where we hope to keep safe from pain
This might be kind of strange but this song will always be associated with 9/11/01 for me. It came out around the same time and the song has a beautiful sadness to it I will forever associate with that day.
It's unbelievable that this video doesn't have more views. I love this song. "Fickle fuddle words confuse me, like will it rain today". I've always found those lyrics repeating in my mind over the years.
2001 was a good year for music. Despite the tragedy of 9/11, it was a time when we all seemed to come together and appreciate what we had and sang the lyrics to songs like this in the car with our loved ones.
You know you went off like a devil in a church in the middle of a crowded room, all we can do, my love, is hope it don't take this ship down.. - Passion captured! :)
I love the lyrics, the music, the song! EVERYTHING about this song moves my soul. The space between, our wicked lies is where we go to keep safe from pain.... love is all we need here...
I got all the time for you love. Since, you died Anna the space between us seems massive. I know that you are with our daughter Sarah. I hope she is like you and just has my last name, I wouldn't want her to have my nose or head. She would be perfect if she was like you. I miss you both terribly. I hope to see you both again someday "If I get to go". Love you both.
I remember seeing this video for the first time, it was at the end of a Top of the Pops 2 show introduced by Steve Wright in 2001. He said there was something captivating about both the song and video and he was right. It just stood out a mile, one of those experiences that inexplicably but quite happily stays with you, which for whatever reason you just don't forget.
This song and others by Dave got me through my first big heart break 21 years ago. Ive never seen the video until today. Beautiful video, took me back instantly to the hope this song gave me that we might salvage the relationship. Alas, it did not come to pass but Dave Matthews is forever.
The more I have listened to this song (which I love) it reminds me of my relationship with my entire family. Always a space between us. I have never felt like I belonged with them. I always felt like "the outsider" and judged . I wish someday I could feel like I belonged. Maybe someday they will get over themselves and know the pain they have caused me and others . God, I hope it's before I die.
Karen, I've gone thru the exact same w my family. Nothing worked. My family has passed now and on my own. They never excepted me as me. Hope things work out for and ur family. God Bless u
If every leader and politician took the time to see this video and hear this song, sans distraction. It may just change their hearts and minds about political b.s. and see to it that friends form other lands visit each other without harm or pain. Thank you for posting. Peace!
My husband died exactly 2 months ago today. We had a rough last year, I won't hold him again. This song describes what we we're going thru in the end. He left a month before he died after 17 years so I never got to say goodbye.
"the space between, your heart and mine is the space we'll fill with time"- to the one I love. You don't think I'll wait but I will, love doesn't come easy. I hope you see my love when the confusion clears and you can finally see clear again
I loved this song when it first came out and fell in love with the video. My favorite part is the end when Dave is alone with the girl who seems to be waiting for him. He raises his left eyebrow, looks back and gives a near academy award look before he takes of the guitar and walks over to her. He really should do more acting, he's a natural! Also, for a relatively simple concept video, it really relays a lot of emotion. Great song and video!!
It’s the moments between the arguing and fighting that keeps you in a relationship. This sounds cheesy but I had a girl fall for me once back in the early 2000s when I explained to her the meaning of this song. Prior she just assumed I was a vapid typical dude. Unfortunately (or not) I had already begun a relationship with someone else. I am now married to that someone else. Guess what. It’s the parts between all of life’s bull shit and fighting that keeps us together, all the good times. I do wonder sometimes what would have happened if I began to date the other girl.

Dave is a poet of the highest order. We ALL know the space he's referring to. What a beautiful reminder to be closer while we still have the time. ✌
What space is that?
Yeah, he will go down with the best poets! They will list Dave Matthews in future school books😂😂 Great musician but didn't write all of his own lyrics. Get your facts before making BOLD statements!
This song reaches the depths of love. The friction parts of love that no one hardly ever speaks of, and the resilience to stay.
you can be comfortably numb ahead of time. it is possible. Just need to make up your mind to. Don't need to be bitter forever.
So deep. What real love is. ♥️
This is comment was so beautiful.

Some years ago I heard this song playing at an amusement park. I was with my kids. It hit me really hard, because that same amusement park my father took me and my siblings to. Just thinking about him and my mother this holiday season.
Dave Matthews is one of the most humble and down to earth people you will ever meet! Nice guy and one hell of a music artist!!
