First Must Have Modifications for my KTM 790 Adventure R!

- A few tweaks here and there is all it took to get my KTM 790 Adventure R dialed in for my body type and my riding style. Because I like to ride mainly off-road - often quite aggressively - it was important that the first upgrades and changes I made to the bike helped my riding stance and body position - technique is key! Let me know what you think and what changes you have made to improve the ergonomics of your motorcycle!

My 790R mods when I've picked a new one from the dealer. Installed handlebar risers, robust handle guards from KTM catalogue and soon will replace footpegs with one you hav, better for bigger motocross boots as well as add headlight protector, you don't want a crack in that headlight from stone/branch when you have someone in front ;) Didn't have to change the seat since right now I'm rather traveling 70/30 tarmac/gravel. In reference to handlebar risers I'm 185cm/6feet and I'm happy with that setup.
Love the background scenery. Good info and explanation on the mods
It was a very dreamy ride. Almost missed the view, fortunately I saw it and made for a great video backdrop 🤟🦅
Wooe man, amazing video quality and review! Will definitelly recommend you to others! Keep it up and ride safe
Cheers dude! Appreciate it, thanks for watching 🤟🦅
Another great video Mike. 👍🏻
Great video! What model and size is your Renthal handlebar?
Great video, thank you. Never thought of changing the bars on my 1090R, but the benefits you're describing seem to lean into what I've been looking for on my bike and risers never felt right.
Were the Fatbar RC High's a straight swap, or did you need to make some adjustments to the mounts to accommodate them?
Nope it was a straight swap. Unbolt, slide of controls, replace with new bars and put everything back on the same way! Helps to have an extra set of hands!
What is the name of the rental handlebar you upgraded to?
Hi Michael: Great review and feedback on the ergo changes. I also got the KTM Hard parts Rally seat for my 790R and as you noted easier to move around on and more footpeg to seat distance for comfort (I am 6' 2" tall). Of course this seat makes an already tall bike a bit taller which is not good in technical off road riding.
I have some Renthal Fat Bars in RC High bend and might have to try them. Do you know the stock 790R bar dimensions? If so would be easy to compare to the Renthal RC High bend. What phone mount are you using? Looking forward to more of your 790R information sharing videos!
Thanks mate! I couldn’t find the stock dimensions anywhere so measured them up myself roughly when looking for new bars. When you put the RC up next to the stock the difference is very noticeable- more rise, height at the tips, and less sweep. Definitely recommend, it has made a huge difference. 🤟🦅
Oh and the phone mount is a quad lock ball mount attached to a shorty Ram arm attached to the ktm gps arm.
have a look in the advrider forum, there are the original measures
@@TheMotoBarista Hi. Great review. Can you share link to exactly this RC bar?
Hi there! Thanks for the Video. How do the bars feel on the street when you are not in a standing position? Is it tiring or something like that?
They do hold your elbows up a bit higher so you have to consciously make sure that you lower your elbows and relax your shoulders to stay comfortable. For me, a small sacrifice for a better riding position when off-road.
@@TheMotoBarista Thank you and ride safe!
Really enjoyed the video. Totally agree on the handlebars, although I have those RC high bends on my KTM 300 not a 790. PS the video is very dark.
Yeh my Go Pro decided to reset itself before riding - didn’t realise until after 😅
Looking to buy my first adventure moto, what do you think would be great mods got a 390? Really like the approach you took
Nice mate, I would definitely start off with ergonomics. Handlebars, foot pegs, seat, grips. Everything you have contact with to control the bike. Get it setup for your body and style.
Came and watched some ads for ya. Good video 👍
Hahah thanks mate, appreciate it :)
Would be helpful to know how tall you are. I want a straighter bar, but not sure how much extra rise I want.
6ft, 34” inseam. Depends a lot on how you want to ride too. I would have gone with any of these parts if I was doing a lot of road riding.
What's your height and inseam?
Mate, great video! Thanks for the idea with the handlebar! BTW I can ride the powerparts rallye seat for more than 7 hours on tarmac without problems. #ironbutt ;-)
No worries - seriously the handlebar change will have a huge impact on your riding! Maybe I am spoilt by the comfort of my Harley for long trips in the saddle 😅
Thanks for another informative vid! Do you have an orange lens filter on the camera? Color and light rendering not so good, audio good though. I put on Rade Garage pegs; billet alum., big supportive platform and are a little lower which is more comfortable seated and I'm less bent over standing. I wanted to change the grips as I found them too small in diameter and too hard. They felt as if I were holding a pencil because I'm used to Progrip 714 grips which are larger dia. and softer. KTM makes it very difficult to swap out the grips so I put on 3 mm thick Sharkskins wraps. I don't mind the stock bar as I'm no where near as hardcore off road as you. I went with a Seat Concepts seat for more comfort while seated as I put on a lot of street miles commuting and traveling. I also have the Camel extended clutch arm which is the NUTS! Love the lighter pull and much greater engagement range. The next thing I'm working on is a more protective windshield that isn't too large for offroad riding.
I was wondering if you have considered the PHDS risers? I saw a video where a dude was raving about how good they were and couldn't recommend them enough.
Which camera - you mean the main camera I use for the front of camera shots or my GoPro? I like to shoot with a lot of warmth so maybe that is what you are seeing? I like to shoot warm, just personal preference and taste. I decided not to go risers because it doesn’t fit sweep issue of the stock bars and worry about the flex and torque on the risers due to extra length causing possible easier loosening of bolts. Stock grips are terrible right! I scraped them off and went Pro Taper MX grips - a pain but worth it!
@@TheMotoBarista The camera while riding. Looks un-natural, beyond just warm I'd say. I suppose you get some extra shock absorption from the bars being taller so most likely would not see any difference with the PHDS. Good to know you can just scrape off the old grips. Did you use a new throttle tube?
If you did a 0-100 race with the Sportglide, which one wins? 😊
Hahaha - I think you just have me an idea for great video 🤟🤟🦅🦅
Using my Iphone 11 distroyed the image stabilization on that phone. I read about it online and apparently on that model the stabilizer is sensitive for vibrations so be aware.. it happened after a few thousand km's
Yeh heard about it, I don’t use it for photos or video though.
Did you have your iPhone mounted on the handlebars or above the display?
@@florianalexander9183 on the handlebars, that's probably the cause :)
Hey Michael, we buy a stock bike and then the fever hits you. They build it , we finish it.
Oh yeh. Can never just leave a bike alone 🤟🦅
What pant are you wearing in this video?
Shift Recon pants and Jacket.
Sweet. Thanks.
I would like to buy the same Renthal product, please....do you have the part.nr? :-)
609-01 on the Renthal website
@@TheMotoBarista no problem with the length of the wires?
@@woitika5983 no problem at all!
Hi..just ordered one of these. Could you give me a link or more info on the Renthal bars and phone mount. Great video. Thanks.
( I see you've answered this below) 👍
Hey, handlebars are RC High Bend Fatbars from Renthal. Part number 609-01.
Was scrolling through all questions just to find this one! I really need to rise the bars to stand in a good posture.
What is your height?
6ft with 34” inseam.
What height and weight are you???
The bikes to big for you, you cant put both feet flat on the ground ? Those bikes are made for 7 feet tall Austrians,
Haha keeps me far away from the rocks and logs 😅
If you need to put both feet flat on the ground at 60 kph through the rough stuff you've already crashed.
Man, must be nice to be tall ... 😑
François-Xavier Nhieu The bumps on my head say it’s not always a good thing! 😉
@@Howling-Mad-Murdock ha ! good one :D
