In Crazy Gadget, you can avoid the rings without using the superbounce. Try a spindash-jump off of the corners, which conveniently are quarterpipes that net you enough momentum to get up to the ledge.
In Final Rush, certain portions of grinding do give you points, like the aforementioned shortcut over the short rails, but most points are awarded by jumping off the ends marked with a green X. Those are trick spots, and any jump off of them results in some kind of points: 200 for a very slow speed, 500 for an average speed, and 1000 for a fast speed. A very well-hidden rail can skip the entire section after the big downward spiral, but I vaguely recall a 1500-point bonus for a smooth transition to said rail.
Overall, a great video series that can be expounded upon if you wish to continue it. However, to keep your sanity, avoid the Tails and Eggman stages, as they will definitely not be easy to optimize.

You should try this same challenge with Sonic's levels in SA1
I probably will at some point. Though Sonic has a lot more levels in SA1, so it'll take a while.
There's no score and ranking systems in SA1, so it'll be extremely easy.

I think you actually get 0 points for the time bonus if you take more than 9 minutes and 20 seconds (doesn't quite have to be 10 minutes), because I believe the time bonus is 10,000 minus 20 points for every second that passes after the 1-minute mark. So, 500 seconds (8m 20s) after 1 minute (9m 20s total) reduces the time bonus by 10,000 (500x20), bringing it down to zero.
Yeah, I've been watching a lot of various challenge videos lately (such as coinless challenges in Mario games, among others), and if there's something that I feel I need to point out, I will place a comment.
This would also explain why the Green Forest bonus for finishing at exactly 8 minutes wasn't anything like a round number, which is what you'd have expected if the zero point cutoff was exactly 10 minutes.

I would like to see more of this, but I understand how difficult this was to make, so I don’t mind if it stops here. In all honesty, I’d like to see the whole game done like this and I believe you can do it, but don’t force yourself to.

One thing to note (about the first part, I wasn't sure if you would be aware of it by the time you would upload part 2 of this challenge): In City Escape and Pyramid Cave you can reduce your points by 20 and 10, respectively, in pretty much the same way.
The 20 points in City Escape come from the box right after the Boarding section at the start. You don't need to break a box here. Instead you're able to Spindash and jump through the opening in between the boxes and the wall in order to pass this obstacle. It can be a little difficult as you'll be under attack by a Robot while attempting this, and sadly you can't use the fenced nearby for cover as the bullets go right through them.
The Pyramid Cave 10 points are (obviously) from the single Ring collected by getting to the key to open the door. Aside from the Super Bounce mentioned in this video, there's actually another way similar to the City Escape trick, though this one will likely be considered a glitch. Specifically you can skip getting the key and thus the points all together by Spindash jumping through the side of the door (picture the door being the same Box in City Escape and try to get through in the same manner). This trick is a little more precise than the City Escape trick, but you don't have any enemies to worry about, so you can take all the time you need.
7:59 Yeah it is! We need more stages like this one. Jumping off the stage and making impossible landings is what makes it soo good.

The camera changes perspective when you leave that room, so getting a good jump is incredibly difficult. Plus, even though I had better jumps that skipped more rings recorded, it ended up giving me the Cool bonus, so I had to go back.

Finally got around to watching these, mostly because, apropos of nothing, I decided to give this a try, though I decided to make use of tricks like super bouncing.
Interesting little tip for Final Rush by the way, if you do a trick off of a rail and land on another rail, it doesn’t actually give you points for the trick, at least in my experience. Annoying when going for A ranks, but great for a minimalist run because you get some extra distance without gaining any unnecessary points.
Also I’m salty because I can’t figure out the skip for the 300 points from the mandatory light dash in Crazy Gadget. I could never get it to work.

In Crazy Gadget, where you have to use springs, but there's rings in the way, if you go to the left or right wall and spindash-jump, you'll obtain enough vertical velovity to move on. Spindash-jumping isn't a glitch

7:13 my uncle showed me the right way to this part when I was like 8 or 9 but I never figured it out but I remembered where the switch was and did this way exactly except I jump dash to hit the spring to go back instead of use the spin dash lol this is the first time I’ve seen someone else use this trick
I did this by accident the first time and then realized it could save me a lot of trouble. I've never seen anyone else do it this way either!

watching ceave gaming was surprisingly simple hooray
If I remember correctly, you don't even need the spring or the bounce "glitch" when you first encounter the gravity switches. A simple bit of bouncing should be enough from what I recall, but I haven't played the game in a good minute so I can't verify right now.
Nothing wrong with the bounce "glitch." It's not even a glitch, it's just an exploitation of how momentum is calculated in SA2. All code working as intended.
Personally, I'd love to see you tackle the Shadow levels!

Man, its been a long time since I heard someone else not like unleashed, and I have to agree, though ironically I thought the werehog wouldn't have been so bad if his stages were like 20 minutes long, its the day stages in that game I hate.

I've actually had moments where jumping on the spring at the end of Green Forest _doesn't_ give me the Awesome bonus, which makes me wonder what you were doing differently to spawn it every single time, especially since I have no idea what actually triggers the bonus; it honestly seems like it's entirely up to chance.

At 4:17 you can do a spindash to the left and jump to get really high in the air whithout doing the super bounce and avoid the rings

I’d say the super bounce is valid to use in the run, considering it’s something pretty much any given player knows how to do, so it’s not really a hard speedrunning trick, more of a tech tbh.
at 4:20 you can just spindash jump on those slopes to your sides to avoid the spring
at 6:00 you can spindash jump from one side to the other

I know you probably won't use it since it's technically classified as a "glitch," but there's a thing you can do where you charge a spindash and jump at the right time to clip through the wall in the Pyramid level.
You should do this challenge for every level

In crazy gadget the room where there are 3 switches down to a void. Just hit the down one. Land on the ledge jump down and homing attack to the corridor easy

There's this trick called Crazy Gadget Skip Skip (CCSS for short) that is tricky to pull off, but allows you to beat the stage with only the 20 Points needed to enter the first tube. Here, check it out:

Hey there, I was using this video for reference because I wanted to do this run as a speedrun, but I am unsure how you ended Crazy Gadget with a 1740. I was doing the math and even with skipping some things you did I ended up with an 1800 total. I also added up what you did and I think it added to a lot more. I know you probably don't have any of the info anymore, but if you did that would be great. Thank you for your time!
I think it has to do with the light speed dash trail. I jumped out into space a little bit and then did the lsd, so depending on when the dash is activated the point total could become very inconsistent.

@@dreamer72 If a speedrunner set out to do a glitchless any% would you complain about that too? Doing something glitchless can be just as difficult or more than a glitch run since you don't get to cheat and clip through all your problems. If you don't like it, I don't know what to tell ya.

Would it be against the rules of your run if on green forest you do mission 5 instead of mission 1 so the timer isnt an issue?
I wasn't aware that that removed the timer. I'll draw attention to that when I make the Shadow video since I don't see why it would break any rules!

Garrulous64 i got the 5th on my first try, but.... from my experience, this special stage has all of the annoying elements of he previous ones, except 5 times worse! I need to check how you made it through so quickly....
Sonic Unleashed is actually one of my favorite Sonic games! I do agree that Eggman Land is really bad tho.
