Mustard on pastrami at 3:04. I thought I had seen every way to use mustard in a deli until I visited Schwartz's in Montreal. I saw a guy order a side bowl of mustard and dunk the sandwich into the bowl.
Jamie is such a vibe, love it. While Katz has a ton of tourists and big lines I do genuinely think the pastrami itself can not be beat. I've had them all. The trick with Katz is order a full sandwich but take off half the pastrami and bring it home. I think it makes the bread to meat ratio better. Get some rye bread and you've easily got 2 sandwiches, maybe even 3 light ones.
As someone who grew up eating at Katz' once or twice a month, I can assure you, that's where real Jews went...not truckers or tourists!!!! I can't speak to it today, but back then, no one was better, Carnegie was for tourists. The Lower East Side was where we went on those treasured Sundays!!!! BTW I loathe pickles, but I can smell the "Nickel a pickle guy." And did you notice the Pastrami was double the size at Katz'?? PS as for today, this woman's bias and whining destroyed this video. I don't know who makes the best today, but given she was insulting Katz before she sat down, she rendered this useless. Guess I'll have to find out myself, hopefully next year!
It has changed. THe overall food quality at Katz's has dipped. Hot dogs are good, the pastrami, cel-ray soda, black and white cookies - all great. Soup is trash. Fries used to be incredible, now just good. Used to serve good rye bread, no longer. 2nd Avenue soup - perfect. But the ambience is a bit soulless. Nice folks though. Katz's looks great, the photos, the panelling, the insane ticketing and the beautiful water dispenser. I think we're allowed to like both?
2nd ave is kosher, Katz's not. No tourist at 2nd ave; and the pastrami not fatty, not lean is heaven. The crowd at 2nd ave are the real deal in deli eaters, and with the personalities to match, my opnion, no better in the city and a must for real deli appreciation..
Please do a review of Sarge's, I enjoy Katz's, however, I prefer the meat to be cut thinner. I remember and miss Carnegie, they too sliced the meat thin.
In Cleveland there is one place to get a real Pastrami sandwich, one. Joe's Deli. Not the Lakewood Joe's on Madison Ave and W 117th, the River Joe's on Hilliard and Wooster. Everything in my heart tells me if I'm in New York I gotta go to 2nd Ave Deli for the real Jewish Delicatessen setup. I'll try it all till I'm bursting at the seams from food
Honorable mentions: Attman's in Baltimore and Famous 4th Street Deli in Philadelphia. Sadly Wolfies, the Rascal House, and Pumpernicks in Miami are gone.
Totally agree that 2nd Avenue Deli has much better rye, and is the more comfortable place to dine. They also have much better Jewish Staples. That said, don't order the hot dog from the 2nd Avenue Deli...it's terrible. Katz's is a better value if you want to share a sandwich, which is larger. If you catch Sarge's on a good day, their sandwiches are better than 2nd Avenue Deli and Katz's. I also agree that the salt content at Katz's is inexcusable. Spot-on!

I went to 2nd Ave Deli this year. Never had Jewish food before... prices were super high but portions were good as you would expect honestly for the price. Serving good quality meat on underwhelming Rye is a no-no for me. I'm also not big on salt so it sounds like I would appreciate the Matzo Ball Soup at 2nd Ave Deli over Katz. Looking forward to this!!
No don't do that I was a little boy going to katzs with my grandfather katzs is the best deli in the world get a hot dog a knish a hot pastrami sandwich what mustard and the dr. Brown's cream soda the atmosphere unbelievable you feel you're in a New York deli if you go to new York city and don't go to katzs it will be the biggest mistake you will ever make trust me that's the deli katzs
Pretty sure the knishes are supplied by Gabilas in both places. Most places that serve square knishes use Gabilas, which is why you order the round knish to judge quality of knish. I prefer 2nd Ave. for several reasons. First, 2nd Ave. is actually Kosher unlike Katz, something you probably should have mentioned in the video. I prefer thin slice pastrami from 2nd Ave. because it's more traditional and consistent. It's also very tasty and juicy. Maybe you also didn't know, you can ask for fattier or leaner pastrami from 2nd Ave. and you always want to go fattier. The Matzoh Ball soup is much better at 2nd Ave. It's served with vegetables the way Matzoh Ball soup should be served. Katz's soup is like bad diner Matzoh ball. Potato salad and Coleslaw both better at 2nd Ave. I never had either Katz's or 2nd Ave, fries but I don't like thick cut fries, those are more like British chips than traditional fries and in this video, they looked under cooked. I always prefer skin on fries, like you get from Five Guys Burgers. Katz's is definitely good food but not sure it's worth the wait and definitely not sure about the price. They are doing way more volume that 2nd Ave., they use unkosher meat which is probably less than half the price of 2nd Ave. There's no reason it needs to be that expensive. The only reason it is, is because that's the price people are willing to pay, except not all of us are willing to fork over so much money for slightly lower quality food.
Katz's vs 2AD=Yankees vs Mets, Jay-z vs Nas. I'm old School Avenue D and East 10th. I used to walk to both. I love 2nd ave but I'm a Katz's. Also, Jaime said Katz and not Katz's. I sense bias 😂

She's right, 2nd Ave is gonna be the place for any Jew, because it's kosher, and Katz is jewish style. Katz will serve pork and cheese, that's pretty pretty unkosher.
Katz Deli the Best in New York my grandfather brought me there when I was a kid 9 years old I’m now 55 I live in Georgia every time I go back home that’s my first destination I go
Katz - hands down between the two but there are much better! Just go to Red Hook and that area has the best pastrami on delicious rye going! But for Jewish Delis I'd say I vastly prefer Katz's deli! Zabar's used to have a spectacular pastrami or corned beef on Rye. The store is now dirty and it turns me off. Overall for good meat and fish I go to Russ and Daughters!! They are a class act! Yes to Katz's and extra mustard and pickles please!! I eat this kind of food rarely as I care about good health! Lol! Great video!
you haven’t yet pastrami queen ? I’ve always been a big fan of the chicken in the pot at Second Avenue Deli. Huge value. Pastrami. Queens is even better than second Ave version.
I'd gone to Katz's when I'd lived in New York City, found the food really great, and was so happy to find a Katz's in Austin, Texas when I moved there. I ate there three to five times a week. Sadly, though, Austin's Katz's is no more. Not long ago, he decided to sell cars instead. CARS!
Katz has been around since 1888, they must be doing something right. She wasnt going to like anything in Katz's. Im surprised she didnt complain about the napkings or the silverware.
Katz's pastrami is awesome, but I think Langer's, in Los Angeles, is better. The pastrami itself is close, but Langer's crusty rye takes it over the top.
9:36 this Shiksa says she doesn't want be around truckers. Where does she think this food comes from? She thinks shes better than the people that bring it. And this cuckhold just went with it
Sorry, your partner is completely annoying and ruined your video. It’s one thing to have a strong opinion, but she takes it way too far and her personality is unpleasant. Not a fan of hers at all.
Total waste of watching to get an honest opinion. I’ve ate at both dozens of times. They are both great. Katz’s is full of New Yorkers as long as you don’t go on a Saturday at Noon.

She's right, 2nd Ave is gonna be the place for any Jew, because it's kosher, and Katz is jewish style. Katz will serve pork and cheese, that's pretty pretty unkosher.
isn't she not technically Jewish enough to be saying these things if only her dad is Jewish?
more jewish than most people that have two parents that are jewish
I couldn't get past the girl eating with her sleeves.
Address of the 2nd Ave. deli New York City
I am a trucker and I prefer 2nd. Ave.
If you noticed the meat cutters at Kate's are not all nice Jewish boys waiting to be moyels there Puerto Ricans
Katz Deli the Best in New York my grandfather brought me there when I was a kid 9 years old I’m now 55 I live in Georgia every time I go back home that’s my first destination I go
what ?? no cole slaw and half sour pickles ??
Jeremy. Come to Montreal if you want the best smoke meat
Montreal Smoked Meat is the best !
She is delightful. ❤
One bite everybody knows the rules
you haven’t yet pastrami queen ? I’ve always been a big fan of the chicken in the pot at Second Avenue Deli. Huge value. Pastrami. Queens is even better than second Ave version.
There are a lot of tourist spots in NYC but katz is not one of those. It still has incredible pastrami and corned beef
CARS!
2nd Ave deli 💯💯👍👍💪💪
I vote 2nd Ave.
New Yorkers...opinionated? How dare you! lol. It's in the NY Constitution to complain and be opinionated.
Do you have to be Jew to visit 2nd Ave Deli?
the wonderful thing about judaism is that its no inclusive at all
Pastrami at Katz is stretches too much. Not even close to Carnegie.
This is the first review I’ve watched where someone has trash talked Katz 😅 interesting perspective
You mean the real jewish go!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second Ave. Deli is kosher. Katz isn't. A 'real' Jewish deli must be kosher. Case closed.
9:36 this Shiksa says she doesn't want be around truckers. Where does she think this food comes from? She thinks shes better than the people that bring it. And this cuckhold just went with it
shes a jew. and its a joke
Two losers in a dinner predict how not to work
huh?
Surely if you give anyone alive $30 and say "make me 1 sandwich, use ALL the money" you're going to get a fucking amazing sandwich?
She's annoying
We have Katz in Texas....monte cristo, open sandwiches, chicken and waffles......etc....she's not one to pay attention to regarding the review of Katz....u will miss out listening to her!
I think the other place does the sides and soups better but kats hits the sandwich home. But I think she is a bit bias
Good jews
Woman was prejudiced from the get go. All i care is about the pastrami amd Katz's is hands down the best.
🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
Nah cuz y’all are wild💀
Ain’t nobody mentioned Israel. I agree with ur opinions, Israel does horrible things. But we are talking about a deli(food, sandwiches)
That girl sounds like a hater!!!!
Exactly
hes annoyed that he has to eat with tourist, we'll im sure they are annoyed that they have to be filmed while they eat lunch lol jk....youre girl sounds like a handful!
They should ban her for life and put her back her little bubble. She is gross
They should judge vegan /vegetarian food! This is a UA-camr video go wrong as its finest. This lady really drag him down. Please keep your day job
Does Jamie’s opinion only count as half? Jk
She's been paid off - so overly negative!! Loved the Fries?? what a fake -Bent on hating She's too salty
Bless her heart.
Stop appropriating the food of my people to a cult. This is Ashkenazi food not a religious meal. You keep saying its Jewish food it is not. Please learn the difference between religion and race.
you dont understand what judaism is then... sad
