I do enjoy the theme, and I've been looking at cards that fit what I like to call a "Pillowmurder" playstyle. Basically, giving everyone else tools to murder each other while keeping strong disincentives for attacking you up. Enchantments like Marchessa's Decree and creatures like Flameblade Angel that punish other players for attacking you to keep you safe while still giving you value. Artifacts that reduce damage you take or can pump the boards of other people (Crown of Doom and Thunderstaff). Things that punish people for NOT attacking or playing a controlling style (predatory advantage/ Ruric Thar). And then things that just are good combat tools if they can swing into open boards so that you can close out the game (Hydra Omnivore, any Myriad creature). It's a pretty interesting playstyle and I'm honestly enjoying 'brewing for it even if it's not nearly as competitive as other decks might be. Special shoutout to Xancha, who I will be trying to fit into all of my Jund decks somehow, and who fits this one PERFECTLY in every way.
gahiji is the best fit for such a theme, I think. It gives some interesting options like ghostly prison, Norn's Annex, Orzhov Advokist and Duelist's Heritage
O kagachi vengeful kami is the commander for you! No mercy, thantis, settle the wreckage, goblin spymaster, isperia supreme judge, and tamiyo field researcher are just a couple of awesome cards to run.
Some cards I play: Slumbering Dragon -> similar effect ofgroth when attacked Darksteel Sentinel and Colossus of Akros -> two "blockers" that I think are good enough (vigilance/defender and indestructible) Nesting Dragon -> this one gives you blockers and later an army of dragons whelps Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire -> more chaos, great when you have dragon eggs from Nesting Dragon Master of Cruelties -> another blocker, since he can't attack and can then block and kill some creature Gorm the Great and Virtus the Veiled -> usually someone isn't able to block them Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor -> Similar to the "hunted ***" creatures Vigor, Xantcha, Sleeper Agent, Endbringer, Grenzo Havoc Raiser -> good creatures Charnelhoard Wurm -> card advantage and usually some opponent can't block Quest for Renewal -> like vigilance for all your creatures Rite of the Raging Storm -> this is group punch, so this should be in it Trove of Temptation -> let Thantis grow with this card Visions of Brutality -> perfect for some voltron that doesn't have hexproof yet (or use Detection Tower) Contested War Zone -> not really a good card, but fun. Rogue's Passage -> you can target enemy creatures then they attack an opponent Survivors' Encampment -> then you don't want to attack with a creature Whispersilk Cloak and Quietus Spike -> nice combo Vivien Reid -> card advantage (the only planeswalker I play)
So cool idea that I’m thinking about doing is also placing cards that give your creatures first strike and death touch. I I love decks that create tokens and all three of these colors are known for token potential and fling damage. The amount of things this commander can set up are amazing.
I run thantis in my o kagachi deck which has the same strat as this, but with the addition of white and blue. Curse of verbosity, dissipation field, iroas, settle the wreckage, original gisella, always watching, bident of thassa, and aetherspouts are some awesome reasons to run blue and white
Cool deck. It’s neat to see something different and unique. Another good card to possibly add is Curse of the Bloodletting. The enchantment curse is a good way to incentivize your opponents to attack another player . It’s also good to put it on a person running a combo deck. Hopefully, you can eliminate them before they go infinite. Hope this suggestion helps.
Haven't watched the vid yet but some cards I picked up for this deck were: Kazuul, Tyrant of Cliffs Koskun Falls Ruric Thar, the Unbowed Aether Membrane Elephant Grass Fumiko the Lowblood Noosegraf Mob Majestic Myriarch Blood Hound Tombstone Stairwell
Great video and great ideas! I think another card from the commander deck i would put in this deck is varchild, betrayer of kjeldor (and also her friend varchild' war-riders). Unfortunate she isn't in the same precon, but they can certainly make combat very chaotic with the spider out!
I think I would put "Mass Hysteria" in the deck to make it so everyone's creatures always have haste so they still have to attack even if they just entered the battlefield that turn
2:57 ua-cam.com/video/McAeQiLmEYU/v-deo.html (sorry couldn't resist) if you look at the text more carefully it saids "other than crown of dooms owner" that means your banned from being the target if you cast it you start with the crown but then you can just give it to someone after the enter
Why bother? 90% of creatures are tapped. The only exceptions: creatures with summoning sickness and those with vigilance (and weird ones like Endbringer) In stead of menace you can play Berserkers' Onslaught (double strike), which also works when nobody can block (which is most of the time). Or add Quest for Renewal so you are the one with blockers. Or other cards such as Rite of the Raging Storm which are more likely to win you the game.
I've been waiting for a Naya or Boros commander with such ability and it ended up in Jund. Seriously, how many Black, Golgari, or Rakdos spells that actually have synergistic effect with Thantis's strategy?
No mercy, Xantcha, marchesa's decree, Queen marchesa, custodi lich, etc. If you want naya you could go with gahiji, or be really crazy and play 5c with o kagachi
Yes, you are right. EXCEPT with WHITE instead of BLACK: You may play Iroas, God of Victory, Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist, Archangel of Tithes, Lightmine Field, Powerstone Minefield, True Conviction, Sunblast Angel, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker, Aurelia, the Warleader, Boros Battleshaper, Gustcloak Savior, Gahiji, Honored One, Naya Charm, Boros Charm, and many more. Gahiji does not force you opponents to attack, and the force attack ability in a combat centric commander can be very interesting strategy for non-control based commander. It opens up new style in the game play. O-Kagachi is domain, there's no restriction in deck design.
Personally I think it would be more fun to turn everyone’s lands into creatures, a theme very accessible by jund. It also makes thantis care about lands that way
In my experience opponents simply don't attack you when you have Thantis out. So fog effects and defenders don't really do much. They certainly don't win you the game. And that's the biggest question: How do you win?
Too bad that Gahiji, Honored One cannot be included in this deck maybe a combination of partners can make them work together in a deck, it would not be a tier 1 deck but it could be extremely funny and kinda expensive too, sadly.
That's a pretty good idea, O-Kagachi is one of those cards that pretty clearly say "Don't f*ck with me", some of the cards mentioned in this video and its commander and others like Gahiji and even Isperia, Supreme Judge could fit well in that deck; the downside is always the insane cost of a manabase that supports the restrictive color requirements of those cards.
@@Sealdeam that's true. I run more budget esque lands like the battle lands and try lands, and proxy the ten shocks because I already own one of each, just in other decks. Most play groups would allow that I'd think. Luckily there is always cards like chromatic lantern, curse of opulence, regal behemoth, and cryptolith rite to help fix too.

Frank Herfjord thantis is the best fit for such a theme when the person dislikes white.
Some cards I play:
Slumbering Dragon -> similar effect ofgroth when attacked
Darksteel Sentinel and Colossus of Akros -> two "blockers" that I think are good enough (vigilance/defender and indestructible)
Nesting Dragon -> this one gives you blockers and later an army of dragons whelps
Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire -> more chaos, great when you have dragon eggs from Nesting Dragon
Master of Cruelties -> another blocker, since he can't attack and can then block and kill some creature
Gorm the Great and Virtus the Veiled -> usually someone isn't able to block them
Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor -> Similar to the "hunted ***" creatures
Vigor, Xantcha, Sleeper Agent, Endbringer, Grenzo Havoc Raiser -> good creatures
Charnelhoard Wurm -> card advantage and usually some opponent can't block
Quest for Renewal -> like vigilance for all your creatures
Rite of the Raging Storm -> this is group punch, so this should be in it
Trove of Temptation -> let Thantis grow with this card

Kazuul in here seems pretty cool too
So cool idea that I’m thinking about doing is also placing cards that give your creatures first strike and death touch. I I love decks that create tokens and all three of these colors are known for token potential and fling damage. The amount of things this commander can set up are amazing.
what about Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs? its a pretty good deterrent from attacks, plus if they do, you can block all day.
Ya
I run thantis in my o kagachi deck which has the same strat as this, but with the addition of white and blue. Curse of verbosity, dissipation field, iroas, settle the wreckage, original gisella, always watching, bident of thassa, and aetherspouts are some awesome reasons to run blue and white
Dylan LeSuer If you want the most optimal strategy all the time just add all the colors. not everyone is into that.
Where do you usually find Thantis ?
In the web of war
I'm out
Thaumatic Compass us a decent Maze of Ith alternative.
War's toll might have a place here too. For redundancy for thantis and it forces your opponents to tap out.
Thantis + nature’s revolt = everyone’s lands have to swing each combat
Can just tap them for mana before combat
Arachnogenesis seems sweet in this deck.

Haven't watched the vid yet but some cards I picked up for this deck were:
Kazuul, Tyrant of Cliffs
Koskun Falls
Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
Aether Membrane
Elephant Grass
Fumiko the Lowblood
Noosegraf Mob
Majestic Myriarch
Blood Hound
Tombstone Stairwell
Actually crown of down says other then its owner so they cant give it back to u
This deck looks like a lot of fun, and affordable. Nice video
I like this deck I'm thinking about building it!

Opponents would just play creatures second main phase

Missed Kazuul or Fumiko
What about goblin war drums so even if they play a blocker...nope sorry. Or really invite the chaos with avatar of slaughter
Why bother? 90% of creatures are tapped. The only exceptions: creatures with summoning sickness and those with vigilance (and weird ones like Endbringer)

why not trespassers curse?

Tang Tze Piew for people that enjoy sweet spider card art and don't play white, thantis is perfect.

Looks fun
2:58 they cant.
This!
I love this
I prefer the 'curse' route. Make it more lucrative for people to attack others.
In my experience opponents simply don't attack you when you have Thantis out. So fog effects and defenders don't really do much. They certainly don't win you the game. And that's the biggest question: How do you win?
Claude Martin hoping, by the time they come at you, their life totals are low enough and commander damaged or perhaps burn spells
Too bad that Gahiji, Honored One cannot be included in this deck maybe a combination of partners can make them work together in a deck, it would not be a tier 1 deck but it could be extremely funny and kinda expensive too, sadly.
Build o kagachi with this same strat. It's my current favorite deck

Do you have a decklist? I would love to see one if you have it, seems like a pretty fun deck.
thanks for some good ideas for my gahiji deck 8)
First like first strike!
What makes this deck even DUMBER is if you add itali primal storm >:D and most of the good red dragons
First!
To slow. In my meta games are over in turn
4-5.
John Doe You commenting this was about as pointless as mine to yours.
how is that fun?
Your meta is boring as fuck.
