i've been with Western for about the exact same amount of time and i agree with you 100%, i see so many negative reviews about the company, but i'm sure majority are dry van. i'm coming up on 6 months thinking about finding a company that offers hometime every weekend, but it's been a pretty smooth ride for me overall. My advice to all, Slow down sooner than you think you should (especially approaching curves) and give anyone in front of you more room than you think you should.

The company is what you make of it. I’m in dry van about 6 months in, I average 5 loads a week doing drop and hooks in the north east. Started looking at other companies and haven’t found one that’s offering more yet tbh.
I will say I ate shit for the first 3 months and barely made anything. Then again, I didn’t know wtf I was doing. Now I do my thing and maybe talk to my DM once a week. I drive 11, sleep 10, drive 11, repeat. I hit 2-3000 miles a week solo.

I just came off the road doing my 70 hr training (Dry Van) and my 1st trainer didn’t teach me anything & she did all the backing, docking etc. My 2nd trainer gave me a few shifting tips however, she only been with WE and had her license 6 months. These appointed trainers don’t have the experience to be training anyone. Unless you’ve had 2+ years under your class A you have no business being a trainer.

    • @Jamargary
      @Jamargary  Рік тому +13

I don't agree honestly because training is not meant to teach you every single scenario, it's more so to make sure you have the basics to be a safe driver, and understand the tablet etc. Everything else is something that comes over years of experience from what I'm told by many tenured drivers. They would be training people forever if they waited for everyone to become perfect at backing or whatever other skill needs to be learned.

@@JamargaryHere's a word of advice "never stop learning". I've been in the industry for the last 10yrs, a lot has changed since then. I'm 5yrs owner op, paid for truck contracting for Marten Transport. I've been with Marten 7yrs, I've fired plenty of managers. Even as a owner op I'm still learning. Don't be afraid to ask for help from us experienced drivers, most of us will help you. On another note "tailgating kills", please don't tailgate, space is your friend out here

I did Western Express for a year 50 Cent per mile is what I topped out at West Coast. Averaged about 875 to nine hundred bucks off a check over 2000 miles was good. Found a small company after I did my year and I make double when I made their I'm averaging about 3000 miles a week and if they don't roll me I get detention pay if I'm sitting for over 2 hours I start getting paid hours. Getting your experience under your belt bro and you'll be making $0.75 a mile flatbed easy anywhere else

OK, I'm kind of busy multitasking and not really paying too close attention to this informative video. But you're telling me that Western Express trainers after their truck payment after their fuel, and after their insurance are bringing home 3500 to $5000 a week. Is that what you said?
OK, let's go on the low end and say 3500 a week. OK, that's $14000 a month.
You're telling me that's $168000 net income for a trainer at Western Express.
    I'm calling bullshit right now.
Another point I'd like to make is you in your own video just stated what is wrong with this industry right now.
You've been driving for 3 or 4 months and you are on your way back to the terminal to become a trainer. Is that what you said?
You've been running a flatbed truck for 3 or 4 months now, and you are going to take some poor rookie and you're going to be his trainer.
No offense, dude, and this is nothing personal against you. But you have no idea what you're doing after 3 or 4 months as a flat bed driver.
Pop quiz hotshot, you have A42 1000 pound. Roller steel on your flat bed suicide configuration.
How many change do you need to be compliant as far as securing goes?
Let's say you have a flatbed trailer with axles that at least one can be reposition.
What's the max allowable weight for your tandems?
What do you do if after you're loaded? You have to drive 50 miles to the nearest truck. Stop to get scaled out and you find out that you're now overweight on your tandems.
Can you slide your tandems to adjust the weight and scale out? Legally, do you know how to slide your fifth wheel? Do you know how to do that with 42000 pounds on your deck?
You're the guy that's now having to make those decisions and also instruct that new green horn. Asked how to rectify this situation.
Again, this is nothing personal, but you don't have the knowledge or the experience to know how to deal with these situations.
When I finish my work day I will sit down and watch the entire video, and I will be back to make some further comments but do it really, really? Just a cursory viewing of this video and you have not changed my mind about Western Express at all. It's run by bunch of idiots.
If you think you're a real truck driver, you've got a long ways to go, buddy. And if you think at 3 or 4 months and experience that you're in a position to be able to instruct and teach someone else how to do this job properly, no chance, buddy.
I've been in this industry for over 15 years. I've been pulling step deck for over 4 years. I learned something every day. Yes, I know enough to do the job legally properly and safely you don't.
And I'm still just laughing my butt off at you. Claiming that trainers at Western Express make over a $160000. Net, not happening Bubba.
I'm an owner-operator my current average pay per mile is $2.32 you do the math.
