    Welcome to an aerial refueling ride-along aboard a US-Navy EA-18G aerial tanking evolution over Iraq. You can see the tanker drogue giving me a little bit of trouble in pre-contact when the jet started turning. I was able to stabilize relatively quickly behind the tanker and make a play for it. I took about 8,000 pounds of gas in twelve minutes.

      Good morning Pail, I received my shirts the other day and as I type this comment I'm wearing the True North. The weight of the fabric and the mix of the materials makes it very comfortable.
      Yes you do make it look easy, although to make it look easy takes a lot of tanking time and practice. I'm guessing that the tanker pilots set the AP and the circuit path is adjusted by the heading knob. The realization that a successful air refuling is an absolute must when there is no close divert.
      You had mentioned at one point if your wingman would be willing to submit pics while wearing Growler gear we could, let us know the best way to do so. Once again I thank you for your service to our country and being on the tip of the spear. You and your family have a great weekend. Thanks, Commander. Rob. Fly Navy. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲👍👍👍

    I’ve been doing the disconnect procedure wrong in DCS.
    I usually just fire the 20mm gun at the tanker for all the unannounced turns.

    A lifetime ago, in VT-6 at Whiting Field, I had an Instructor tell me to write up a VIDS/MAF for the aircraft we had just flown, instructing the maintenance folks to "Replace the black in the grip on the control stick"...good times!!

    • @steveanderson9290
      @steveanderson9290 9 місяців тому

      ...and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the designers of the "MAF Bags" (the purpose designed zip-lok document protector bags that hold Maintenance Action Forms) in such a way that dosing them with liquid freon (Invert freon "duster" can and spray into bag) would a) Allow safe transport of charged bag to the door of the airframe shop. b) Once at the door, shake the bag vigorously, causing it to expand rapidly, and c) Open the door, and throw the bag in the shop, slam the door (and hold it closed for extra points), where it would d) Explode very loudly after about 4 seconds (note that timing of the explosion may vary depending on ambient air temperature).

    • @unklemilty
      @unklemilty 9 місяців тому

      Oh man that is harsh! I do recall and appreciate the structural integrity of said MAF Bags as I once had a knucklehead literally squirt the digestive remnants of the previous night's Mexican food into a MAF bag as he straddled it in the back of the aircraft, all at 7500' over West Texas, ...my first and everlasting lesson on the importance of bio-hazard control! @@steveanderson9290

    Another successful upload! As an Air Traffic Controller, I serviced the AR-3E in the Denver ARTCC Airspace near Farmington, NM. Also, the impromptu aerial refueling was unique in that it could be two tankers and eight jets waiting for a "drink." The absolute professionalism of these airborne crews was always impressive.

    I learned to do AAR in the DCS F-14B.. initially on a saitek x-52 with a really bad sensor.. white knuckle did not begin to describe my state :p once I got used to the wake turbulence, and the turns.. and got a new control setup, it got a lot easier. you make it look simple :) that is a testament to your experience and skill. those unannounced turns must be nerve wracking.
