    Just a quick shout out to Arlo - he is the wise, efficient, and calm influence on this very interesting and capable construction team. I also like how the Perkins Brothers give him credit. You can tell the Perkins Brothers come from quality stock just by the way they conduct themselves in these videos and how they treat their valued employees.

    If you swap the position of each gecko for each row, then you'll cancel out any accumulative error :) If the Geckos are set slightly different from each other, rotating them for each row will ensure any difference is averaged out every two rows ;)

      Interesting point awesome. I like the way you are doing, never try that. I would like to test it our. It happened few time by bad geckos settings then lots of work to bring back to level. 👏 👏

      That will cancel out any mismatch between the jigs, but the rows still need to be checked against the story stick to make sure they're not both 1/32 short/long/etc.

Also, those gecko clamps are cool, we used to make them out of 1x in the shape of a T, flip it upside down, the cross of the T sits proud of the very and toward the house abutting the bottom lip of precious course and the very cut at the exact reveal we want. Make 2, leave the verts long, then cut both beets to length (6.5”) at same time on mitre saw.

    Job looks great. I always get a kick out of watching you guys. Always best to have fun on the job.
    Two things I could offer you guys on the job. One, you need a weep strip behind that kicker so the water that gets behind it (or condensation) can run out the bottom. Second one is for Jaime. Take a hot glue gun and some thin fur strips and create a pattern around the multiple windows when you try it again. The same way you make a pattern for granite countertop. Bring it back to the shop with you and match it with your measurements. Keep up the good work.

    I haven't used any of the siding tools but have looked at a few of these clamps. I don't think I would use them without a story pole to check though. The other issue that I have had with them is I like to be able to run a full board above the flashing over windows and doors if possible by making small variations on the story pole in siding spacing. I think it looks better, but these clamps definitely gave the advantage of speed.

    Good call on the silica dust. California proposition 65. We are doing it again.

    • @PerkinsBuilderBrothers
      @PerkinsBuilderBrothers  3 роки тому +1

      Yep! just FYI for anyone else reading this… silica dust comes from cutting pretty much any kind of masonry and the particles are so small that once they get in your lungs, they can’t ever come out. This can cause major respiratory problems as you can imagine. Also the reason we use water when running a street saw in concrete and the reason it’s a really bad idea to cut fiber cement siding with a grinder or masonry blade on a circular saw.

    • @glenlongstreet7
      @glenlongstreet7 3 роки тому

      @@PerkinsBuilderBrothers That is correct. Crystalline silica is very small and lodges deeply into lung tissue, like that other stuff that starts with the letter A. The letter A stuff is shaped like a corkscrew and behaves as a corkscrew. The immune system sets up a response to remove the foreign matter, but it cannot and so attacks the tissue surrounding it, which has been linked to cancer. Crystalline silica is similarly attacked by the immune system, but it has a different weapon. When the crystals are cracked open, the bonding of its electrons weaken and they are released into the tissue. Their energy profile is not nearly as high a 'beta' particle, but free electrons inside your lungs has got to be a very bad thing.
      Amorphous silica, like you add to epoxy or concrete, is a larger particle and is not as likely to get lodged in lung tissue, but it does cause silicosis. Crystalline silica is used in many products where you would not expect it. The company I worked for was building a very large architectural component and the clear poly paint had it in it and it got sanded a lot. Many car polishes also use the silica as the buffing agent. As the safety manager I worked really hard to keep my guys safe. Stay Safe, Mask Up.

    The solution to flashing a ledger on a first or second floor deck is to move The Ledger up the thickness of the decking. That moves your flashing up so it doesn't interfere with your joist and keeps the water from sitting between your ledger and joist.

    How great would it be if Perkins Bros had a contest and the winner would get to work with them for a week?

    It would probably make more sense to notch the vertical leg of the flashing instead of cutting into the joists. It’s not helpful to direct water there anyway. Thanks for the great videos.

    Ring shank nails into sheathing to hold your siding in place. Crazy
