Soooo I'm a professional cabinet maker and furniture maker. The half circle half laps are awesome. I learn from this guy in every video. The base build here may be one of the better base build instructional videos you can get. He shows templates, easy joinery and top attachment. I feel like DIYers may not realize how good this is. Great job man. This was fun. All very applicable techniques to a bunch of applications.
I'm not a woodworker but I can say he makes this stuff look easy, and when to make it look easy that usually means you are very talented and it's not easy for a DIYer.
I don't know…a few screws are the only thing keeping the base from folding. This design does look great, but has zero lateral stability, lengthwise. Clearly visible at 21:15.
@@psychonaut6074 the top locks the entire base together and adds lateral stability
I like the look I might make one and it was a good video. I think it needs more joinery to hold the base together though personally. One screw per cross member seems a bit skimpy. I think leaving the wood with squared corners would look better too personally.
The trick to laying out the legs is genius. The day I watched this video I used that trick to lay out a drawer organizer and it worked amazing. Thanks so much for that.
Expect to be sued mister!
0:20 That glee in his voice is contagious and I love it :)
This is exactly how projects morph around our house. During Covid I decided to build a simple shed. During construction, it turned into 75% shed 25% Margarita bar. From there I added a window that opened onto to bar ledge. Then I added a privacy screen, then a deck area, then added a shade sail, dart board and a TV mount. It just kept morphing to become Side Bar 66.
The jig you used for the stretchers was so simple yet brilliant!
Things that I love in this video:
The reciprocating saw trick.
The bourbon knife T-shirt.
The super chunky numbers on the tape measure.
This guy is awesome! 💪🏼
That was amazing. And as a former math teacher, I have drawn things out and "worked backwards" to figure out mathy things many times. So your template made me love this even more! I've just started DIYing after leaving teaching, and you are very inspiring and a great teacher. Thanks!
Best woodworking video opening ever! Captured the emotion all of us waiting for the wife to mess up and let us play in the woodshop!!
Some of us are the wives, just saying.
Playing with Lincoln Logs sounds like a great vacation.
Watching many popular YT makers channels, I am starting to believe there are only two types of wood in this world - white oak and black walnut.
Start looking at veneer suppliers and the world of exotic woods will open up to you!
Don't let Nick Offerman hear you say this.😂
Don’t forget cherry and maple! 🤣
I love your projects. It's the little things. Like the counter sinking the screws for the frame when it's not even going to be apart of the finished project. And I love the wooden frame you did!! So awesome!
That titebond 3 is great for outdoors! We do outdoor signs hand sculpted, and laminated all our wood with it! After years they are all still holding and solid without any dominos or dowels!
@23:30 I used to use the "make a little dent, then switch to a masonry bit" method, but I recently had an epiphany drilling through wood into concrete/masonry to get perfectly lined-up fixing holes. Use a multi material bit. When you get through the wood just switch your drill to hammer mode and carry on drilling. You can then widen out the hole in the concrete/masonry to the correct size for your wall plug easily and accurately.
Love the circular half laps btw. Great project.
An often missed but important first step before any outdoor project is to make sure your lawn is properly caffeinated.
Indeed
Indubitably
😂caught that 😉
I got the chisel knife in, yesterday. I have to say, as a guy with a lot of very nice knives, and chisels, I'm probably just going to carry this one, now. It's exactly what I needed. I haven't tortured it, but it feels so well made, that I don't think I'm too worried about it failing me.
1. It’s called a screed. 2. Just know that in the future, you can add a powder water expander to your mix. It’s crazy how it seems like you over water the concrete without over watering. Doing this allows the mix to settle wayyyy better and it also allows for the air bubbles to be vibrated out so much easier.
Looks like something Wilma picked up at the Bedrock furniture store. Love it!
Building stuff is how I relax.
Staining the base to match the chairs is where I thought you were going. Lettin it grey naturally will make it accent the couch. Flippin' Genius!
Thank you for this wonderful video. I was wondering what to do this weekend and now I am on my way to the big box store to pick up supplies to build my new outdoor table.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am somewhat under the weather and I am putting everything ready to finish building my mitersaw base cabinet. Will attach the wheel later when I buy them. 😃
I love your storyline. The you were thinking through your project reminds me of myself. Great job 👏👏 👏👏
You all have made me so proud! I like all the hard work you all doing that is so inspiring to others 😘
Love this video. It feels like why I started watching this channel in the first place.
You are very entertaining. I like your humor and intuitive way of working😊
This is such a pleasing design. And the way youve made it is literally everything that stimulates my creative mind
Intro was hilarious!! 🤣 Got a real kick out of that!
Very clear instructions, concise with good explanation-- thanks for making!
…fun to watch… fun patter… you’re obviously enjoying your work… great video!
Nice video!!! The table is beautiful and I used the very same technique to build my fire-pit table top. It is funny how as a builder you can sit still for a few minutes only to create more projects in your head to do next. What an awesome problem to have.
Loved it. I did a purgula with lighted ceiling fan. Sunscreen is an inexpensive cover and gives an inland bungalow feel. Misters are also good 😊
This was really a great video first time I came across your site plus I like that. You explained everything as you went along and you have it really interesting personality that draws someone in keep up the great work!!!
The rounding bit with the base is insanely good.
Always enjoy this channel and watch it for inspiration on different build projects. Really wish you'd given a 10 to 12 second image of the finished product that pretty much fills the screen. That way I could take a screen snap of it and file it in my list of cool future stuff to build. Anyway really love this table the elegant simplicity of it can't be Overstated.
Nice coffee table that I think will work great for my deck. We live on a prairie and wind can be an issue. When my wife gets home I’m going see what she thinks and go from there. Thanks.
I love your investigatory skills
..morning coffee table and a evening whiskey table.
I absolutely love your channel!! I learn. I laugh. And that makes me happy!
Great project! Love the clever use of the ply template to set out the leg frames without maths 👍👍👍
You could paste wax your concrete top...looks cool and stops coffee cup stains etc soaking in 😊
Always good watching someone who loves what they do and are good at it enjoy 😊
The table turned out really well, the commentary was pretty funny too. Respect from Ireland 🇮🇪
Quite the character. Great table. Well done. I used to measure areas the same way. then draw plans to scale according to my foot measurement. Hey, it works.
Nice work Jason!
I really loved the video and especially your humor! That really added just the right touch!!
Man for deciding out of the blue to make a coffee table out of concrete, sure is nice that you could get that same day delivery from that concrete website!
That into was PRICELESS! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Genius, I'm going to subscribe, because I like the way you explain what you're thinking and demonstrate the process. Keep up the excellent work,
Doug is awesome. Thanks for the entertainment.
In my experience, concrete counter companies first spray into the form a layer of concrete without fiberglass then pack in the fiber layer, so I was pleasantly surprised how good your counter looked just doing one fiber pour. That is very helpful as I'm planning to do some counters in the future and obviously much easier your way.
He cracks me up. Lived the beginning!
I love how he sits down all gingerly like he is scared its going to fall apart
Grateful to you for teaching a newbie hobbyist..
I loved the side table there the whole time.
Best intro yet! Loving it! 🤣🤣🤣
nice ! I would have added a groove on the underside of the concret top so that rain water drops on the ground and doesn't run to the oak stretchers, otherwise the water will sit at the contact of the wood and concrete
The algorithms brought me here. Bravo, this was excellent. Looking forward to the back catalogue.
Looks great. Much applause 👏👏👏👏👏
Brilliant. Way to think out side the box. love the stretchers
Oh Moth!...so very entertaining, and a Grand Job for Mrs. Moth to enthuse over...a Canopy will finish off your Patio to a Tee...thank you!...dgp/uk
Ti's screeding. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video.
Superb 👌 I hope you will seal the con concrete at some point and do the same for the timber leg framing and definitely you should go ahead and do an awning! I'm sure your wife will aprove in delight!
First time here - your opening was hilarious!
Great video as always!! You were my inspiration to start my woodworking UA-cam channel. I'll be always thankful for that!!
The legs remind me of Lincoln logs. 🎉I like them and the table.
Bro. I just found your page, and I'm glad I did. I'll be here watching from 🇨🇦
Great content, keep it up!

*I love the intro of the video, the process and outcome of the project and the building of the new idea for the next project at the end of the video... He's unstopable!*
Friggin gorgeous
Great project. Simple and elegant for the space.
Great project! My friend Hawk, the Cawk King, told me that you’re definitely the Call King.
You remind me of me! Always thinking of the next thing to improve Upon.
That intro is worth hitting the subscribe button 😂
Enjoy many coffees and cocktails out there.
love the narration
Loved this video and the finished table. You are super talented!
What a lovely and funny intro. Saw you the first time.
The start of the movie 😂😂😂 hilarious 👍
That templet layout process is brilliant. I've never thought to do it like that. Math does suck hah.
When that sun starts getting to you, please, please do a pergola build!! I have a very similar patio and am trying to find information for building an attractive pergola attached to our house, without much luck! Love the coffee table too!
Really love that base. Very whimsicle!
Very nice~!! The rounding over really worked out well.
Got my bourbon blade and shirt on Friday. Haven't used it yet but I am looking forward to being able to use it😊
Great build !! Please build an outdoor box for your cushions !!
Very nice. DIY is the best.
Thanks for an excellent video. I love the table.
What a fun project!
I love your videos. Always great ideas. One day I may even build something like you have.
Home tour time!
I think its time to do a video where you tour/show off your house, preferably with some pics of how it started, and some perspective/commentary from your wife! ... and its screed, with a D.
It was totally fun watching you so thanks,😂
This guys mind works like mine, I can't relax. Always thinking of projects. Difference is I ain't got the cash lol.
Never seen that template to not use math. Thank I’ll be using that thank you.
Great Build
My house is also cobalt and white (or very faint whitish grey) I love it!
I know you don't reply to comments but hopefully someone will get what i'm saying, it was a brilliant build Jason, i personally would have made the top textured to make it look like wood. but another thumbs up from me.
Your template method is REALLY cool. I would have been tempted to use pegged mortise & tenon joinery. Of course, I do not have a domino joiner and that is definitely a factor.
Ah! Want someone like you. Amazing, thank you
I thought your wife was going to walk into frame with a coffee table as you sat down to enjoy the one you had just made…
That would have been hilarious! I was thinking she would walk out with her hands on her hips when he was foot-measuring for a covering.
She knew if she did not buy one, he would build one. Smart on her part.
He said him & wife were together 15 years ago, she knew he was going to build something.
Yeah, I also was totally expecting her to show up with a new coffee table
Question on the build - have you ever done a concrete form like this and embedded the connectors into the concrete?
Damn, opportunity missed. Awesome idea!
Nice job. Not sure about the orange big box store but you can fiberglass rebar at the blue one(its pink. Owens corning 😂) and i believe in my local one there is #3 and #4 just so you dont have to use the loose fiberglass(mainly for everyone else). Wont cause cracking and you can cut it with a metal cut off wheel.
hahaha i love how you say "haha I'm gonna build one" 😂
Haha that ending... exactly how I am usually "relaxing" in the garden; thinking about stuff I can make to make it better. Always starts out simple and ends up as a way too long, too hard project 😅
Sweet informational video. I'm planning on pouring my own raised hearth, but I want to make mine black.
If you happen to make another one of these table's,may I suggest forming to half circle indents into your concrete top so that the legs sit into those indents.
I know this is an older video. Just seeing it today. I think some little air bubbles on the top would be kind of cool since it’s outside furniture. I mean, just little ones. But, I don’t think you can really engineer that. lol. Cool video
Concrete screeding is a process in concrete work where poured concrete is flattened into a smooth layer before the surface is finished. Screeding concrete is the first step in the finishing process and helps fill in gaps in the concrete surface while removing uneven high spots. Also now known as scrowding.
Hilarious opening - '...she didn't order a coffee table...' 😂
