@@davidostrowski679 actually, those were anchovies(Latvian way) not sprats you were eating. Sprats are kinda sardines in oil. I`ll advise trying lamprey with white bread next time(they look like snakes in gelatine...he,he)but they are gourmet food, also smoked eel but it`s expensive. Actually, all smoked fish is very tasty. Latvian rye bread is the best in the world according to my opinion, well also that isn`t bad also in other Baltic countries.

Another fantastic video! Amazingly huge market. Would love to walk through it and check all that neat stuff out! The rye bread with fish and hard boiled egg looked delicious! Love fish. But you said it was a bit salty, which might be too much for me. And the salmon, yum! Well done video, David!

Lovely Riga video, David, gracias! Loved the massive city market... I'm glad you feel so comfortable in Riga and have such a positive report on life there. I'm certainly looking forward to you to experiencing and loving Vilnius in 2021! Can't wait to hear from you in Poland. I'm half Lithuanian and half Polish, never learned Polish, but Lithuanian was my first language before English, but no family left to speak it with anymore, and only surviving relatives still in Lithuania.

Any Vegans watching😂. The Zefir looked like what we call a Macaron often fruit flavoured and two joined together, but on looking it up they sound like a cross between a meringue and a marshmallow as you described, delicious by any name!! Tangerines are nuts 😉 l mean next to the nuts, perfect place for them to co-exist. Love when you go for a look at a market and that one was massive and great use of the hanger. Ive really enjoyed everything you have shown us from Riga, ld definitely go for a visit just for the history and architecture. Thanks for another great vid. 👍

I'm praying for her and all the hospital workers. People are lined up in the DF to get oxigen tanks filled, and the air quality is at it's winters worst there.

Great videos! But you forgot to visit the actual world top quality Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) areas like Alberta Street :) Next time then!
Please do come in the summertime or spring-autumn. Also around Riga, there are a few dozens of wonderful places to visit, like medieval castles, for example, Wenden-Cesis (the capital of Livonian German Knights Order), picturesque Turaida-Treyden, Sigulda-Segewald castles and grand rococo palaces, like Rundale Palace the seat of the Dukes of Courland (where BBC, HBO etc shoot period drammas like War and Pace, Catherine the Great) and amazing national parks like Kemeri (The Great Ķemeri Bog is something out of this world and a must-see) and Gauja National Park (called Latvian Switzerland), little medieval towns like Kuldiga, where time stopped since the XVIII century and seaside resorts like Jurmala, with its enchanting wooden Art Nouveau architecture and miles and miles of top quality white sandy beaches.
Believe it or not, this summer in Latvia it is much sunnier and warmer (sometimes too much) than in South East England :)
    You are very welcome!
P.S You chose quite an area to stay in Riga, it is of course also histroic (actually, it was a part of the Jewish ghetto during WWII), but a bit run down, like Shoreditch in London 20 years ago :) I would suggest staying at the other side of the railroad next time, in Riga's equivalent of London's West End :) Good luck!

Thanks for the info Erwin! I'm actually planning on moving to Riga more permanently later this year once my Polish citizenship goes through! Praise be for the EU! Will definitely be revisiting your list! Re accom yes I'm definitely finding a place closer to the old town, I think in the case of these videos it was a last minute booking when I was escaping from Mexico so this time I'll have longer to find a place. Thanks again!

@@davidostrowski679 My pleasure David and this is such great news, as we say Laipni lūdzam!
Regarding the area, it is not necessary to live very close to the Old Town or God forbid in the Old Town, in fact, the influx of tourists is picking up again right now and when all this pandemic situation is kind of over, it will be too noisy and crowded and also expensive, unless you like it :)
Basically, any place inside the so-called "Railroad Ring" or another name for it is "Imperial Riga Centre" will do, the further from the Old Town the more affordable it is.
"Imperial Riga Centre" is a historic area, built before the beginning of WWI and I guess, as you have noticed, the centre of Riga is very walkable and if it takes to walk to Old Riga (the Canal, Riga's former moat is its border) about 20+ minutes, or a short hop on a tram it's fine. But outside this "Railroad ring", it starts to be industrial, and full of soviet comi-blocks etc. Suburbs like Mežaparks (historically Kaiserwald) can be very nice, but I doubt you are into suburbs :)
The area you stayed at is perfect to explore, full of history, but I guess, it is not very nice to live, because it is quite run-down. It is historically called Moskauer Vorstadt and since medieval times it was settled by Russians and Jews because they were not allowed to settle inside the city walls.
The so-called "Quiet Centre", which is just up North from the Old Town is considered to be already premium, historically Baltic Germans and other affluent citizens of Riga lived there, it is truly beautiful and full of Jugendstil pearls, fine restaurants, embassies etc., and it is a bit more expensive.
Also, have a look at the area on the other side of the Daugava river like Agenskalns (historically Hagenberg), Kalnciema kvartāls is trendy among young professionals, very green and it has this "village" feel (let's say, like Fulham, or West Chelsea in London, of a sort) and again, just about 20 minutes walking from the Old Riga.
Anyway David, when you are ready, just shop around I am sure you will find what you really like and if you have any questions, please do DM me ervinusman@gmail.com I'll be glad to answer.

A great overview of the capital. But IMHO, all those reviews of local cities, metropolises are really boring and casual. They all try to fit in some modern scale of comfort, infra, and values. I think that the next big thing is for someone to get a list of localities in the country, shuffle out 3 of them, and visit with all the surprises it can offer.
Instead of Riga You could go to Liepaja, Kuldiga(with the widest waterfall in Europe), Jurmala for example... those are also comfy, but for Villages... to let's say - Kandava, Rauna, Krāslava.

it's in 4k and a brand new Samsung on a gimbal! The background is meant to be slightly blurred with me in full clarity as you'd see on a TV show. Turn up the quality on your phone, it defaults to 480p on mine unless I change it. If the front cam is set to 1080p rather than 4k you don't get the blurred background.
