- This video will cover how to disassemble to check your Smle for if it’s safe to shoot and do basic preventative maintenance on your rifle. I do not fully remove or disassembly every little thing on this rifle in order to not make it to long. Hopefully you liked this video and subscribed if you like this sort of stuff. Please leave a comment with any questions, additional information, user experiences, or suggestions for future videos and I will do my best to answer them. As always thanks for watching.
Thank you,
Devin K.
Wow what a great finish on that furniture. Many Ishapores are oil and cosmoline soaked to the point of having to. Be replaced.
I just got home with my rifle. It needs some TLC and your video was exactly the tutorial I needed! Now I can get her ready for her club "coming out party". Well, I need to load a few rounds first. Thank you for your well done video.
Thank you! I am a new SMLE owner and that was very helpful!
I can see by my comment above-- I thanked you 4 hours ago. So 4 hours is how long it took me to clean this rifle!
Not just this video but I watched most of your vids on cleaning and service of this weapon. I inherited this gun at no charge. I have never in my life seen a weapon this filthy. Years of oil and gun powder residue built up and *caked* on everything and in every groove and crevice. The bolt would cycle but just barely, it took a lot of effort Speaking of which this thing sure has a lot of grooves and crevices!
I had to forgo disassembly of the bolt/firing pin as I do not have that tool-- yet. Anyway, after 4 hours of work and using up about half a cleaning kit worth of pads and oil ( ;) ) it now operates like butter! Smooth and silky! What a fine piece of machinery it has turned out to be.
In some cases, things were so gooped up I was not sure I was doing it right. Seeing you do it before I pushed/pulled any harder was excellent and some things I may well never have figured out on my own. :) So thank you again for your videos!
Excellent Disassembly video.. thank you
This video is very well done. Thank you!
Man! Got on this video at 35 seconds! Talk about timing!
You should sporterize that gun -- it would look really GREAT!!! Then add a picatinny rail and a red dot in place of that archaic rear sight. A foldable stock and suppressor would do wonders.
The trick to disassembling my 2A1 this video didn't help me with was sticking a piece of plastic in the magwell and beating the devil out of it until the action popped out.
How do you get the brass pins out of the wood? I need to transfer all my pins over to a new stock.
Great video thanks! Mine is covered in black paint that’s worn and chipped. If yours had that paint how did you remove it?
You can just use a not harsh paint remover
@@DevinK I see. Thank you. Did you do anything to the gun after cleaning that all off
Would I be able to make this rifle look like no1 mkiii 303. and what components would I need? I'm looking at an Ishapore deactivated rifle at the moment. I am guessing brass butt plate, 303 , magazine and 303 nose cap.
That should be about all you would need
Think you could make a video cleaning this rifle? Wanna make sure I don't miss any spots
Just do everything in this video but add oil to all the metal
Did you remove black paint from the metal parts? Or did this one not have it? Nice rifle! I should be receiving one soon that has a very dark stock and remains of the black protecting paint. Not sure how much I should try to clean it up, or to just leave it as is.
That paint is there for a reason I have a 410 model with it it doesn’t hurt it it just adds more corrosion protection. This one never got the paint just got blued
Been over 1 year , need your help. I have just found a RFI 2A1 shoot fantastic. But the previous owner used Remoil on the stock. What was the correct finnish? Stock is oil soaked. Help please
Tung oil
@@DevinK thanks will do. Used on my old M1 Garand and my Romanian 1969 built 22lr training rifle. The best 👌
Now I have a great clean project for the spring. I also got new old stock screws and barrel springs im set. Thanks
You're rifle is in excellent condition, how much did you get it for? Have you done any work on the finish?
No I got it this way, and I paid 425 for it
@@DevinK where do you find these for sale? I had one given to me by a family member
Where can I get the spring on the screw that goes into the barrel through the stock
David Snyder lots of places, try ebay
Devin K. What exactly is the part called
David Snyder google it because it’s called a bunch of different things depending on the era but they are around
shoulda showed the screws
in a line to help distinguish
That's a 2A1
Yes it is
Who's the big Dummy that stripped and blued it?
Nobody it’s not been reblued but India put this Thick paint for moisture protection on their guns that were destined for long term use and storage.
