- Some explanation of what's coming up on the channel and a short tutorial on the proper assembly of the safety mechanism on a WWI SMLE No.1 Mk.3 rifle.
You, sir, are a legend. I was prepared to buy all new saftey parts and the simple clocking tip saved me about 40 bucks. I owe you one
Thank you sir. Just bought my first Enfield No1 Mk3 (made 1917) and it went through a full service in the gunstore before, but the safety felt strangely spongy and didn't rest in the full rear position. Now, after correct assembling, it snaps in and feels correct. Awesome!
Glad it was helpful. I need to post an abbreviated version of this video without all the blah blah blah.
I'm working on (restoring) a Parker Hale #4 custom built on the Enfield platform for a friend. I do amateur smithing as a hobby and this video is priceless as the gun has no safety at all. After I watched it the first time I felt confident enough to order parts and will be finishing it up as I follow your excellent tutorial. Thanks immensely.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Glad to have been of help!
That’s a very nice rifle. Parker Hale accomplished a well thought-out conversion.
How about No. 5?
My No. 1 Mark 3* safety worked ok, locked the bolt, disconnected the trigger, but the lever would not rotate fully into the safe travel stop. Saw this video and decided to check how it was clocked. Turned out it was clocked incorrectly, one o'clock instead of eleven , reset it and now it functions perfectly. Thanks for the tutorial. Great job!
Glad it was helpful. Thank you!
Thank you! Been having a mare trying to work out how to align it. The 11 o clock analogy is perfect.
Corrects safety on a sporterized rifle to the correct field issues original safety = 😃
Keeps rifle in sporterized condition even though the barrel is unaffected= 😞
Fantastic video though! Thumbs up 👍
Thank you!
Maybe someday I’ll do more. The barrel is unaffected, as you point out. The receiver, however has been pretty heavily modified. I’d need to source a new clip bridge. And then rivet it on.
Yeah, maybe someday.
Thanks for the video. I had a SMLE that was a little bound up. Ended up being the safety catch was installed incorrectly. Your video helped immensly.
Glad to be of help.
Same I think, my safety is super loose and when I fire it, it goes to safe and I have to flip it back to fire to shoot it again. Haven't looked at yet but this video helps give me some ideas on what to look for. Thank yoiu.
Thank you so much.
My pleasure!
Thank you sir. Most appreciated.
It was a pleasure.
Always happy to chat about rifles.
Post a photo of all the markings on yours and I’ll see what my books can help discover 👍🏻
I believe the flat plate safety spring is an Australian WWII invention that is clearly much easier to make than the original design. We Yanks would call this a substitute standard item. I'll venture a guess... These may be made for the WWII armored fighting vehicle smoke dischargers, the kind that used worn out SMLE receivers.
Interesting! Thanks for that. Gives me something to research.
great video .... thanks
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Could you tell me were you got the new safety kit for the British Enfield. 303

Ugh, was not initially familiar with the Enfields, and it's given me a lot more trouble that any others I've ever done. The design that went into it was nonsensical, and they needed someone brave to state the obvious that they had lost the plot and needed to start over then knowing what NOT to do.
