Only 17 minutes is criminal. I could listen to these two talk ball for hours.
Seriously!
Ong
Ong. Such dynamic personalities
Agreed
Yeah but I don’t think Gruden is really the kind of guy to do a 3 hour interview. Doesn’t really have the demeanor for it
Back in 2003 I moved to Seattle from Ohio. I was young, missed home, and sent Coach Tressel an email out of the blue to just say thanks for doing such a great job as a coach, and especially doing it with a bunch of Ohio guys. He actually replied to a random fan email. That meant a lot even if it wasn't much. Will always be THE Coach of the Bucks for me.
He replied to mine too! Back in that time period. He took time for fans. Great guy!
Bucs
He’s the man
I introduced Coach Tress to my grandfather at the OHIO STATE HS Football Coaches Show. I told him how he had been a Buckeye fan since 1930 and he sat and talked to him for like 30 minutes. After that day, everytime Coach Tress saw me he asked how George was doing! The fact that he remembered his name and genuinely cared about him moved me to near tears!
I was visiting my dad in FL in March of 2008. I ran ahead to get our luggage and the car seat for my 3 month old son who was with my wife. She had an issue with the 1 touch open stroller. He was on the plane, I had no idea, he stopped held my son while she opened the stroller! He is one of best and nicest people you could ever meet!
That 02 championship still gives me chills thinking about it. Some of the best football I've ever watched.
Flag from heaven

Salty azz Cryami fans! They conveniently forget about all the crap call against OSU throughout the game! Cryami hasn't been the same since! Hahahahahahaha
@@captlucky2320Cry. It wouldn't have even gone into OT if replay reviews existed.
@captlucky2320 Gamble was held and would have gave them a 1st to run clock out prior to all that anyway if we are playing that game.
I met Jim Tressel when I was a freshman at Ohio state , had a short convo and he asked my major and I said I wanted to be a lawyer , met him again the summer before my senior year of college and he stuck his hand out and said “how’s the law school search going , Adam?”
I was stunned . Class act
So cool. I met him when he worked at U of Akron and he treated me the same way. I never got to see him again though! Such a humble and sharp human being
Wow
Photograph memory wow
You a lawyer?
I was fortunate enough to have played my college football career under Tressel, & Dantonio. That story would be completely accurate, he had a tremendous memory of remembering people. We as players each yr during camp had to take a test to remember every one associated w the program, name, where they are from, and high school. A great human.
Tressel is an absolutely gem of a human being. I would send my son to play for him in an instant.

Amen, brother. Best mentor I’ve ever seen at OSU in my lifetime. He was the father figure a lot of these players never had. He had the incredible gift of not only being a mentor, but brought the best out of players for wanting to make him proud.
@@moogs05 HE was pre NIL LOL
@ ya think ?
Bring Tressel back for an hour long episode
I agree 100%
he has his own channel
@@RagedContinuum right not with him and Gruden. So what's your point
@@THEGlassCity-BUCKActually its an over an hour during this same meet up on Tressels channel ya genius!!
@@stanleyfranks9891 appreciate being called a genius. Thanks
Gruden’s love for football is unmatched. Whether he’s breaking down the art of punting or the OSU vs. Michigan rivalry, the guy is laser-focused and absolutely lives for the game.
Amen….the league isn’t the same without him. Being from Dayton, Oh…I used to watch him play with the stadium only being 5min from my childhood home. We NEVER thought he’d become what he did. It’s been fun watching his career.
This interview was too short. Coach Tressel is a man I can listen to for hours. In fact, I have! He's one of very few people that can have me took forward to driving up to main campus, and sit at The WHAC in the butt rack of dawn, to be reminded of Macte Virtute!
You're still awesome, after all these years, Coach Tress!
Amen
12 year old me and 30 year old me love this.
This is a crossover I never thought I'd see. My favorite Coach of all time in Tressel. Really appreciate this one!
Crazy as a buckeye and raider fan never thought I would see Gruden and Tressel in the same room
I remember back when he was hired and I was like - WHO? Now he's my favorite they've ever had - Ohio State fans STILL love Coach Tress! Total class!
…and that taught ALL us fans that, NO ONE is irreplaceable, when that time comes. There’s a “nobody” out there who noone has heard of, that will be the next legend.
John Cooper ruined my childhood, Tressel saved us all. I was in the stands at The Big House when he beat TTUN the first time. What an experience
One of my best memories was watching the Buckeyes win the ship under Tressel .
Jim is my number 1 OHIO STATE COACH,
Loads of respect for this great coach.
Same here
Coach Tressel is the GOAT! Love the interview!
One of my favorite coaches of all time!!
Gruden got a raw deal! A total hit job. His passion and rabid desire for football is unmatched! Hes a Buckeye! As a member of a family from Sandusky and a student at Huron High I bet John G ate at my family’s famous Berardi French Fry stand at Cedar Point and Berardis Family Kitchen in Sandusky!
@kinch613
You could certainly say the same about Tressel, given the truly trivial things he got dinged over. You look at where college football was within a year or two later in terms of players profiting off their autographs and such, look at the Stalions thing and you can only laugh at the way his tenure ended. Not that I was particularly bummed about his exit. He had a great run.
@ absolutely
Tress is the man he can teach you anything
Early Gruden subscriber here. This got me excited. Great interview. He should focus on interviewing old coaches and former players. This is good good stuff man.
Coach Tressel is not only one of the greatest Coaches of all time. He is one of the greatest Men of all time!
Literally my two favorite couches. I am an Ohio State fan and Raiders fan. I could listen to these two for days!
This comment tracks.
So it's the Raiders part of you that can't spell?
"My favorite couches"?
Just playin my guy. I know how spell check be doin us. Lol
@@brentwebster3751 lol 🖕 You're not wrong
My two favorite coaches and teams
GOAT!!!! I loved his press conferences in his sweater vest at the podium that looked presidential. Love the Youngstown State Y on the vest as well.
Love you Coach Tressel
Jim Tressel is Ohio State’s 2nd best coach of all time behind Woody Hayes
Coach Tress and Coach Gruden each have their own podcast… what an era of sports and entertainment we live in 🙏🏼
Tressel giving us an undefeated national title is still crazy to think about. Against arguably the best team to ever touch the field in college football in terms of NFL talent.
This could be 8 hours long and I would watch it
2 legends right here. This is awesome. Can't wait to witness Coach Gruden seeing Roger Goodell eat some humble pie.
Tressell is my guy! I loved Coach Tress. I was in college at Wright State in 2002 when the Buckeyes made it to The Fiesta Bowl and played for the Natty I was there. Always been a Buckeye fan.
Tress with some Jordan flights on… Unmatched swag. 🐐
I'm from Youngstown Ohio thank you so much for interviewing our coach
Good stuff. 2001 OSU buckeyes championship was epic. That game vs Miami had so many legendary future NFL players
Great seeing these two great men talk
We all know of or even ate at Jimmy John's. I think we need "Jim & Jon". We deserve a podcast with these two.
Little known fact. Back after Coop left OSU, the fans were in an absolute FRENZY because Jon Gruden was spotted in the Columbus airport during the coaching search. Then, we ended up going with an unknown division 2 coach? Well, I guess it worked out alright for both parties! Love seeing these 2 guys sitting together. And I love that Jon always looks like he is 2 seconds away from jumping out of his chair and eating someone! No idea if he ever actually interviewed for the job, or if it was circumstance.
Yeah I remember that. There was A LOT of buzz from the media at that time about Gruden being in serious consideration for the job. I love Gruden, but we definitely chose the right guy! I'm proud to say that my 13-year-old self wanted Tressel the whole way, as soon as I heard that he was a candidate....I heard about those 5 national titles he won with Youngstown State, and I said hire THAT guy!! Lol, I didn't care what division it was. Football is football. If you can coach, you can coach. I was also at that basketball game where he gave his intro speech and told us about how proud we were going to be of our team in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan.....I remember watching Tressel and the team make good on that promise in The Game that year....I was at the season opener the following season when Maurice Clarett introduced himself to the nation by rushing for 175 yards in a big victory over Texas Tech and Kliff Kingsbury (their QB and Heisman candidate, at the time)....then I was also at the Michigan game that year, to see us beat them (AGAIN), and clinch a spot in the BCS national championship.....man, a lot of good memories!!
Love coach Tress! Got to meet him also in 2006, he's a great guy!
Always loved Coach Tressel. Excellent interview!
Gotta love the Senator. Thanks for the 9-1 TTUN record and 2002 Natty. Go Bucks! O-H
I’m a Michigan fan but I’ve always respected Tressel.
9-1 buddy you had no choice but to respect 😂😂😂
What an absolute legend. Thank you for all great memories Tress. #FearTheVest
I love all our old coaches Tres was the man. Remember him dressed just like that leading the team out. Respect.
When I was a young man my parents took me to the Buckeyes hall of fame cafe on Olentangy River Rd. Coach Tressel was there having dinner with his wife. I felt bad interrupting his dinner but I knew I only had one chance, and I approached his booth and asked for an autograph on a napkin. It's been 25 years I still have that napkin. Coach Tressel was the nicest guy to this young buckeye fan!
An awesome interview, with 2 of the best!!Thank you for sharing!!Go Buckeyes
Absolute Buckeye legend... Jim Tressel. What a great man.
One of the most genuine coaches ever. Knows everything about everyone.
Tressel is the man and so forth
More of coach Tressel!!!
That was a great Segment, very well done
I love Tressel aka the ‘vest. Great coach. Great guy.

After that day, everytime Coach Tress saw me he asked how George was doing! The fact that he remembered his name and genuinely cared about him moved me to near tears!
What a great story, he really is the epitome of class.
@ He really is and he didn't do it to impress me, he did it bc he really cared how my Grandfather was doing!
The Senator, Jim Tressel. Awesome interview!
Love Coach Tressel. He’s a legend. O_H!!!!
My granddaughter graduated from Youngstown state. And my daughter her husband and my granddaughter got a chance to meet Jim Tressel he was the president at that University at the time. I had a chance to go and watch her graduate and could have met him as well. But my health was not with me and allowing me to. I would have loved to have shook his hand and thank them for beating Michigan those years he did. And it's good to see Jon Gruden back in the Limelight
leave it to Tress to tell him where he actually started his college career. lol
tressel is the 🐐. go bucks
I miss Gruden !!! Monday night football will never be the same without him.
Great conversation! Loved it.
I grew up at the tail end of the Cooper era and all of the Tressell era, Tressell has always been my favorite OSU coach and probably always will be, he had a different mind and could get much much more out of his players that even they knew they were capable of, he also played that tough defensive and run it down your throat style of ball that the B1G used to be well known for. I honestly believe he could still coach right now, if his health could stand it.
Great great great video. Keep them coming
One could say many great things about JT, but what I respected the most about him was how he cleaned things up at OSU. Before him, OSU players routinely filled up the police blotters. He pretty much shut that down. Also, he made me appreciate "Tressel ball". I hated it but learned to understand it.
Totally agree! And I saw it when Notre Dame played Georgia. I am a Buckeye fan but hope Freeman success until he plays Ohio State!
Tressel is one of the greatest to coach the bucks, Thanks 👍 for you're time @ OSU
Fear the Sweater Vest..... Mr. Tressel is The All Time Most Respectable Head Couch at Ohio State.
I once heard an interview with Tres where he talked about his 1st year as OC at Syracuse. He said he called an off tackle play that gained 8 yards. Called the same play, they got 12 yards, called it again, they got 9... said the HC asked him, hey coach, you got any other plays? Tres responded, "Yeah and I'll call them when they figure out how to stop this one". Way too many coaches today outcoach themselves. It's like they HAVE to do something different. If I have a play you can't stop, I will run it to death!
I really love this interview. My two favorite teams in 2002 was Ohio state on the collage level and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and both of these dudes are my heroes that year
Love the original sweater vest ! Two great coaches talking. This should be at least an hour
Wow really cool to hear these coaches talk ball and leadership!! I want to go to an Ohio state game up there sometime!!
The GOATS!!! Yes love listening to Tressel!! OH
Jim is a genius, great talk, wish they went 1 hour.
Saved, but wish I could save it as my #1. Thanks Coach, for all you did and all you do.
Coaches are special human beings
I have more respect for that man in the sweater vest than I do for most people I know
What a great interview.
Tressel is awesome!!!
The last part of that interview talking about Miami could have been the whole segment. It’s unreal the talent on both sides of the ball for both teams on display that night.
Great interview! Go Bucks
Two of my favorite people..,
Holy Cow! Good for you JG, JT a true legend
This is incredible. Jim Tressel IS Ohio State. Go bucks
When coach talks he's telling you great things about the game always right on
There's so much Tressel in Freeman as a ND fan I love it.
I'd watch this if it was 6 hours
Sweater Vest and Chucky in the same room together. Did not expect that.
I love Tressel. I am a YSU alumn, and I was a student during the glory years
Coaches Earle Bruce, John Cooper, and Coach Tressel have created a monster. Ohio State is awesome now thanks to these three (plus Woody Hayes) for creating the foundation. Unstoppable Ohio State!
Coach Tress talks,I listen!
I have been a Raider & a Gruden fan forever. Had no idea he went to Muskingum. Hell I'm from Zanesville. Small World. Cheers Jon!
I would love to listen to these two talk football for 3 hours 17 minutes is not enough 😊
Thx coach m
Awesome!!!!
Tress is my guy! Always will be #1 in my ❤! Go Bucks!!
Excellent
Tressel is my absolute favorite. Still looks and sounds the same today as he did when he coached 20 years ago. The guy is still incredibly sharp!!
What a epic pull
damn I miss Tress.. heard a few of his speeches, blew me away on how wise he is.
Subscribed, big fan of both these guys, great coaches
Gruden is hilarious. Great interview style.
❤Coach Tressel
Coach Tressel is the GOAT, 02' Buckeyes made it known there were there to play on the very first series that night against the Canes. That roster was packed with Ohio kids too, over 70%. Thanks for the memories coach!
Tress knew we would win on Friday, Dallas to Houston by foot would have taken that kid 2 weeks! GO BUCKS!
Met him when he was at Akron university and he stopped and chatted with me at 645am in the winter … great guy
As a Michigan fan trust me when I say Tressel deserves more credit for Ohio State’s current place in college football than Meyer. Meyer took their recruiting to another level of but Tressel built the foundation. 1 title and 3 appearances and was getting them to a point where they could compete with the SEC when tattoogate forced him out
Uhh sir. Paul Brown and Woody Hayes built the foundation. Tressel laid the bricks and meyer laid the roof. That's real.
Days gonna pave the driveway and build the garage
You’re Correct!
They were all Necessary for Ohio State to become who we Are. They were all Great in their unique ways. They are Ohio State Football.
@GG-un7hj yes the biggest difference between THE Ohio State University football program and others is the coaches are the culture and the program in itself. (Example Jim Harbaugh, nick saban.) Ohio States program is the culture itself and its why no matter who we plug in as long as they are not incompetent we thrive and will be a top 10 school at either the beginning or end or somewhere in between the season till we die.
Great interview
