    As a lifelong Michigan fan, (49 yrs old) i have to admit that there was a time when I detested both of you. Mainly because y'all were so good. Now, I can appreciate your greatness & be humble enough to glean off of your wisdom. Good luck with the pod, coach.

    Is it odd as a Michigan fan to miss Jim tressel? I think it's more just respect. I hate the fact he turned the rivalry around for Ohio state but gosh the guy doesn't age! I wish he had less success vs Michigan that's for sure but you can't help but respect Tressel. I don't respect Day or Meyer much but Wood Earl John and Jim I have always respected. Despite johns bad luck vs Michigan the guy still won a shit load of games and was a good dude. Earl deserved more time I think. Jim got shafted. Woody was ready to retire so he went out in an unfortunate way but he is right up there with when it comes to coaching legends.

    Coach, we love ya in Youngstown, so many great memories.
    It’s fun to watch Tressel talk, his mannerisms remind me of family members in how they tell stories. It’s a tempo and style that we are not seeing any more, it’s subtle, but if you’re from Ohio, I bet I am not the only one that picks up on it.

    Another book you may be familiar with, Coach is-“The First 90 Days” It talks about the virtuous cycle which includes building trust and the direct or indirect effect goes back to something you used to say, “people don’t care what you have to say until they know you care.” That also comes from soliciting their input. What do you need?

    One of the best things about Jim Tressel in my opinion was that he could get the most out of underrated, undervalued and under recruited players. In 2002 he got Maurice Clarett but the other 2 highly touted recruits were Massillon QB Justin Zwick and Avon Lake LB Mike D'Andrae. D'Andrae Hs tape was impressive. Then Zwick was just 6'4" 240 prototype quarterback from Legendary Massillon Ohio. Neither were able to meet high expectations. However Troy Smith was a late add if I'm not mistaken, he had made the elite 11 ams impressed late from whatbi recall. A.J. was also a late offer, who was supposedly on his way to sign with Joe Pa when he was called. Legend also has it that a coach on staff when told this exclaimed, "Great we got a 1A FB".
    They only ended up being the last person to win a Heisman at OSU and the second best LB in OSU history. That 03 championship team is the team of legend. Indomitable.

    I think if your intentions are in the right place you’ll succeed in the end. Success may not be a national title, or being the best in your field of work but if the intention is pure and authentic and it creates a positive impact on the individuals or group as a whole….you win. Your create legacy, you elevate people to believe in themselves and they grow. Ultimately that matters more in life than wins and losses.

    If anyone's interested about 2:04...
    The closest active Packer in tackles is Jaire Alexander. To eclipse AJ Hawk, he would need to continue his Packers career tackling at the same clip into his 18th season as a player at age 39. Only then would he sniff AJ's record
    Of the Packers top 25 all-time leading tacklers, only two are on the team. One is Jaire and the other is 9th year veteran DT Kenny Clark.

    • @gonzUSA
      @gonzUSA 8 місяців тому +1

      Also wanna add this (and I sound like a meat rider, sorry): I was a huge AJ fan in 06, hoping my Packers would draft him. It was my first time watching the draft. From that year forward, through middle school, high school and a brief, failed attempt at Juco football, I wore #50 as an offensive tackle. Watching him with the Packers, then watching him kill it on McAfee and hearing his comments about being a dad (which I just became this year) -- it's honestly amazing. What a great ambassador for the game and I imagine, a genuinely good guy.
