    Great discussion, guys. I agree with Tom, 10-shot MOA at 100 yards IS the holy grail of airgun accuracy right now.

    In a mere three years, the pcp market has gone from a relatively exclusive market, with a high price point, to one where even regulated guns are accessible to even the modest budget airgunner. It's a great time to be an airgunner!

    I'm in the UK and I've only just come across this channel. Really good and informative stuff in a lighthearted delivery. Amazing though how fast airgun technology has come in just six or seven years. Not once was a Huggett silencer mentioned!

    Fantastic video and discussion. I liked how Jim talked about the state-by-state hunting regulations. In MA, you are not allowed to use air guns for any form of hunting. If anyone knows otherwise, please reply.

    I don't know if it was different back when this video was made but you CAN hunt squirrels with an air rifle in Texas now. That is the only game animal you are allowed to shoot with an air rifle from what I read. Great video though!

      I can't figure out how to fill my pcp rifle with hand pump. I think it has to do with this brass fitting with allen screw in small end big female on other end

    Marauder is good, comes with the pump and a scope for roughly $250. I got mine for $110, both guns are excellent, accurate, powerful and unregulated, and my gun's sweet spot is shots 6 - 17, mainly. I get about 28-30 shot a fill. I notice that after shot 25, it starts dropping to 800 FPS. Took a lot of rounds and a lot of time to learn the sweet spot, but it's worth it to know, rather than going out hunting and firing off the first shot on a fresh fill.

    One of the first, but the most popular: Girandoni rifle, could shoot up to twenty shots a minute, at .46 caliber. Now, I have heard that some could fire .50 rounds, some were .45. I suppose it depends on the year and area. Not the first, but the most known about, and was used in the Louis & Clark expedition.

    A PCP airgun in a typical caliber is really quiet compared with a centrefire rifle which means you cause less disturbance and don't need to use ear defenders. This can be a major advantage.
    There is virtually no recoil so it's easy to keep the cross hairs steady and women and younger shooters will not be discouraged.
    Airguns are relatively clean with no corrosive combustion products to deal with etc and ammunition is a fraction of the cost.

  • @michaelnager6059
    @michaelnager6059 9 років тому

    No, you will only have the "Bell Curve" if your PCP is unregulated then yes, you will have that Gaussian Curve. However if your PCP is regulated then you will have the same power behind the shot time after time after time, from green through yellow touching onto red.

    I am really looking into getting a PCP air rifle. I've had a springer and liked it but wanted more range, power, and accuracy. Also I really want a repeater. I have been looking at the benjamin marauder in 25 caliber. I want to be able to shoot larger animals than I can with my .177. I don't know a lot about what I need to get with the gun or what kind of scope I want to get and want some advice on getting my first PCP. Mainly I want to know more about how to get the high pressure air and what is the best option to fill my gun with--hand pump, scuba tank, etc.
    Thanks

    Why doesn't anyone ever bring up the fact that PCP guns require replacing air tanks and reservoirs on the guns. They have a shelf life requiring replacement and it is very costly to do so. If you can afford to have a compressor that' allows you to refill your tanks and gun reservoirs the compressor is a very expensive tool that requires demanding maintenance. Seals and O-rings have to be maintained on guns and compressors and for most part it requires a Air Smith to do the work. I love my airguns and I have all the equipment available but it indeed can empty your wallet.. Come on guys, bring the aforementioned into the airgun discussions,

    • @Joe-lo9kp
      @Joe-lo9kp 6 років тому +2

      Air gun and equipment maintenance reminds me of one is faced with when a electric car reaches the point where the batteries need be replaced. You purchase a New Tesla Sportscar for $125000.00 and the cost of replacing the batteries can be over $30000.00. This is what a Tesla agent at a car show a few years back advised me when I asked him about having to maintain/replace batteries after five to six years.

      Thanks for letting us know about the air tanks and reservoirs.
      I was wondering how reliable they are.
      I was even getting close to buying one.
      The fact that they can be filled with a tire pump got me wanting one.
      I will just stay with my crank arm air rifles.
      I don't want to be way out hiking way out and need to refill the gun with air.
      I can carry my air rifles and pull on the arm to load it when i need it.
      And reload it over and over without a tank or and air pump.

    this is funny played paintball for years... 68 cal compressed air regulated gun (marker) and i can grab one for 400$ at the time this was made... and it shoots full auto. and their talking about thousands of dollars... yikes. granted we were only shooting at 300FPS and we had the 4500 psi tank screwed in (which was another 130$)

    • @americanairgunner
      @americanairgunner  3 роки тому

      Paintball tanks are generally regulated below the pressure requirements of a PCP Airgun. You could find a company to swap the regulator on the tank, but that gets more expensive.

    Buying one for myself is a good way to .17hmr or.223rem. I'm no where i can even keep one but hey i Personally love target and even small game hunting. you know..>The power of the caliber and size of powder and what is useable for you has to be safe comfortable like he said the gun and the size of the bulletes ansd the powder grain power. i love younger kids treating the air and small calibers of air rifles. a gun must feel right must shoot well for you and it should be very safe for you to handle and opporrate. it is a damb thing! the city is really no place for a person to shoot squirels the cops and the neighbors are only looking out for the people that go aiming at people and shooting things that are scared of the guns ...actually the range is for target practice. well i am preaching again but i love my rights and the permission the carry and own a few items that to me are worth having...mikeii

      That would be a compressor and it's available; probably not powered by AAs though :)
      Check out the 'Shoebox Compressor' by Tom Kaye as an interesting design in that field.

      +jeff rice Nope. Shop around, there are good deals all over. I got mine for $110, and put a mid-range, Mil Spec scope on it, did some tuning, and it's the same power and FPS as a 22 rimfire. But, much less audio report, and the ammo is less expensive. And it's bolt action, which I love, feels like a Remy 700 in my hands.
