"My goal is to not wake up at 40 with the bitter realization that I've wasted my life on a job I hate because I was forced to decide on a career in my teens"
This show is one of the most accurate depictions of life in High School though, not melodramatic or overly dramatic, not some alien Hollywood producer's warped memories of high school, not some massive battle for popularity or glory, run-of-the-mill rags to riches story, not a build-up to a massive fight with a bully. Hell, Daria and Jane never even got bullied, unless you count the fashion club, Tommy Sherman or the radio DJs, I love that they didn't include a bully, and if they did: Daria would've wrecked them. Teachers aren't just arseholes or foil characters or exploitation: they're underpaid, frustrated and struggling in their jobs like real teachers (I remember one of my teachers once bursting out of his office shouting "I'm fucking sick of these fucking kids and their fucking problems!!!" He was usually a lot like Mr. O'Neill), one of my favourite episodes was when it reached a boiling point and they all went on strike. There are cliques and groups of friends but no big divisions like Jocks, Nerds, Socs, Greasers, Townies, Goths, Punks, Pink Ladies, Aryan Brotherhood, all of those dumb groups that rarely happen in real life high school. Instead: it's just a frustrating mix of the drag of pointless work, decisions being made on your behalf (half of the time), parents stressing about everything happening in high school, making close friends out of the experiences you share, being judged a lot, being told "what happens here will decide how the rest of your life pans out", breaking in to sabotage a painting you did that was altered and displayed without your permission (my personal favourite memory from high school, they never saw me coming, it's amazing how common that type of thing is) Only other realistic depictions of High School I can think of are The Inbetweeners (UK version) and Summer Heights High, but they're slightly more vulgar.
It's ironic how an animated show was way more realistic, than the ones with real people, and even any other I've ever seen in my life xD These series was a pretty good portrayal of the cinism and nihilist attitude of the 90's and the Gen X .. There are not good ones or bad ones in this series, just people and situations like you see in your life everyday .. The two girls were like a total "meh .." and "whatever" to the life.. the "Nevermind" generation .. that was the escense of the 90's. The final decade, when youngs haven't nothing to do, and no one expected nothing about nothing.
This is seriously one of the best youtube comments I have ever read. It's coherent, full of thought, and frankly this platform is undeserving of it's quality.
I honestly don't remember much from high school except that it was a get in/get out, do your work and go home type of thing. I mostly remember being in theater and being around the most vile, selfish people I've ever had the displeasure of being around and from what I understand they never outgrew it. Other than that, it was when I learned to drive, got a job and appreciated what I had.
The original Daria wasn't as hateful towards everyone/as blunt either. Other wise she'd never have let Beavis and Butthead call her Diarrhoea like the original Daria did.

andoc 90s was horrible 80s was better hall and oates
Second means 1st loser.
The entire 1980s and early 1990s were the best time periods in existence for music and movies, culture, and being young. Everything after 94-95 just went from bad to worse to WTF?
The 80s were sooo stupid. Ashamed that I was born into that shithole of a decade. Everything was fucked. Hairstyles, music, cars, everyone was gender confused and looked like ru Paul
omg this SONG I can't stop replaying 😤
