Little extra thing: a quick ball actually takes more time than the master ball. This is because quick balls weren't introduced until gen 4, a whole 2 years later. So if you wanted to use a quick ball, you'd be waiting for a while

@@Zackattackplayspokemon yeah the timer ball was gen 3 but its counterpart the quick ball was gen 4. the timer ball also got a huge buff in gen 7 so its catch rate increases much faster.

I am really liking this channel nowadays for 95% sweet speedrunning content, and 5% the absolutely amazing butcherings of Pokémon pronunciations. I was starting to feel disappointed that everything was so well pronounced, until my ears caught that "KyogrEE" and everything in my world made sense again ❤️ it's like a Russian roulette wheel of mispronunciations! I have used one master ball in the last couple of generations. I can remember, and it was just to match Miriadon to it’s color scheme and because it’s name letter is on the ball. Yes, I am very ball Bougie and I have been for years.

At this point wouldn't it be better to try to hit the 1 frame for Rayquaza to shave off that many seconds if you want the WR? Similarly to how the current Red wr uses a super risky strategy
Nothing is stopping folks from trying, but the game is already verrrry difficult to speedrun as it is. A 4 Frame ball catch just adds comfortable consistency 2 hours into the game.
Time creep will eventually make this the standard. Cause any new strategy that comes up will always be slower if they use the safer trick. So anyone who isn't as good can steal a record by copying their strat and then going for the 1 frame. This forces everyone else to do the same or find a new strategy. I've watched a lot of speedrun history videos and that literally always happens

3:22 The human eye is very capable of seeing higher frame rates which is why high refresh rate monitors exist. Also there is not an easy way to show this off on a 60fps video unless you were to halve the game’s speed (not framerate) and interpolate or frame blend which would give you more frames to work with but will not be a true comparison. I definitely wish I had formed the point I was trying to make a bit better. The research I put in mentioned that the vision can become quite blurred from frames higher than 30-60 FPS depending on the person! My apologies if this was wrong. Trying to put in words how precise RNG Manipulations are is very hard.

In Sapphire as a kid I got to the top of the sky pillar to find I only had one ultra ball and nothing else. I threw it at Rayquaza who was still at full HP and it caught. First try. I have spent hours trying to couch Rayquaza in other games when it's HP is in the red lol

I have a little story of my childhood and my brother can confirm it. Once when I was younger, I was playing pokemon sapphire along my bro. I went to the cave where you get Kyogre... This spawned asleep... And then I just threw a Pokeball... I caught it... On the first try... It was the most LEGENDARY thing I've ever done...
I have done something similar in gen VI as a non speedruner. Want a shiney dialga, palkia, or girantina with the best possible stats you can get in gen VI? Turn pokemon into a rhythm game and you can get one.
@@jordanthejq12 Ehh not really. The thing about being a competitive player is you aren't under time pressure, and all failing a manip does is cost a bit of time. It took me like 30 trys to do my first manip but it didn't matter because I wasn't speedrunning.
It's wild that pokemon speedruns have gotten to the point where there's someone running the game while using a metronome to time inputs in super tight frame windows.
the youngest protagonist is the sun moon protagonist and Red at 11, everyone is either 12-13 except gen 5 and 6 which are 14-16 we've never had a game protagonist aged 10 that's anime/ EU localiser error only
I know the pokeball trick with raquaza seems crazy but i didnt want to use my masterball and used every other ball i had and what i had left was 3 Primere balls and ended up catching it! Super cool to do and i still got that guy to this day
Meanwhile on a casual playthrough, I keep the masterball and dupe it at the battle tower, it makes getting all of the legendaries, Latios/Latias especially, a lot easier.

Once you have deposited your pokemon, save the game. But keep the game running. Then retrieve the pokemon you deposited, then go to the lady at the counter closet to the PC. Go through her dialogue and enter the singles with pokemon, once she asks you to save, turn of and on the game. Check the PC and boom dupes
i will never ever forget as younger kid i played sapphire, battled kyogre and just tossed a great ball at full health in anger because i forgot to buy ultra balls earlier. Somehow first encounter, full health, caught with the great ball! Its interesting to see how low my chances really were with all that RNG manipulations!
I'm guessing the answer is "Because it's a significant detour on what would otherwise be a straight shot through Team Aqua's base, and Emerald doesn't even have a mandatory Legendary fight during the campaign like Ruby and Sapphire".
i wonder why runners use shock wave instead of thunder. thunder becomes 100% accurate in rain, which kyogre sets up, and its not gen 5 where weather isnt permanent, so wouldn't thunder just be better shockwave in this situation? The only reason i can think of is maybe its a time loss to go to the lilycove store for it?
You have to beat your rival outside the Lilycove store to get the Thunder TM, which loses time compared to just settling for Shock Wave. Besides you'll be using surf and ice beam more anyway

Wish this explained more about the RNG. Why exactly would waiting affect RNG when it's not being called? Is the game constantly calling RNG even when unnecessary for some cursed reason?
And here I remember Gunner saying once that runners picked the girl because the male rival has less lines of text than the female one. Guess it was wrong, or there were multiple reasons?

I would not the patience to attempt to manipulate frames on a pokemon game. I almost run out of patience grinding levels, egg hatching and catching them all.

Competitive players--especially VGC'ers before the advent of PKHex--have to be as adept at manips as speedrunners.

My guess before watching would be, that they try to get the instant catch, to save some seconds, or that there is a manipulation to do that.
