This version of Gotham City was like a neon maze of cool overpasses and giant statues. Joel must have been high out of his mind.
You know something called producers?
It reminds me of a spoof.
@@avikfett1551 No spoof, just the 90's
Perhaps a little inspired by Akira

R.I.P Coolio, featured in a cameo talking to Barbara aka Batgirl before the start of the biker race and then he helds the gun up in the air and shoots to commence the race. You'll be forever missed.

I agree.
Yeah they were - but the writing and acting and directing were God awful
Soooo true

Coulda been a reference! Good eyes. 👍
You mean the red hood. Like Jason Todd or joker???
@@MGREGS2010 How can it be a reference when the Red Hood (Robin version) wasn't a thing back then?
@@sm4carnageihope oh.
I get the scene is explaining a little of Barbara's background and how she makes money and how she is so good at motorcycles. I wonder how they got out of that predicament though? He was hanging by a foot on a metal rod holding her with one hand, while both are upside down on a super high bridge .
Because this is a shitty movie.
There's nothing implausible about that scenario at all, though
Bella Perignon it’s a movie...
Project A, he is a GREYSON!
Well he is an acrobat
I love Robin's helmet.
Looks like the red hood
Robin or Red Hood?
®
Isn't that the same design that was on his Batman Forever helmet?
And I love Robin's butt. But then again, so does Batman. 😂
R.I.P Coolio. Short but sweet role.. looking badass in the costume 🙏🏾
Fun fact: the character that Coolio is playing in his cameo in this scene is actually supposed to he Dr Jonathan Crane/ the Scarecrow, who would've been the villain of Shumacher's attempted sequel to this movie. He apparently wanted Nicolas Cage to be in this cameo scene for him to be in the sequel but Cage turned it down, so Coolio was brought on instead.
God, could you imagine Coolio playing Scarecrow? It's impossible to picture.
God no. Glad he didn't he would not of fit that part.
I thought Howard Stern was going to play Scarecrow?
"So this is where you hang out", Robin we have enough puns coming from Mr. Freeze we don't need you to join in.
Never enough puns for Schumacher

I know this scene is cut off because it's on youtube, but it's hilarious how this ends
Barbara: Alfred's sick
Bruce (off camera): Alfred's not sick

Bruce: He's dying.

Dick Grayson: Dying? Why didn't he tell us?

This scene from my childhood was one of my favorite parts to this movie ever, I love the song that they played Moloko-fun for me. Brings me back memories, I still have it on VHS tape I loved that line Spike said "end of the line sweetheart" it's too bad nobody caught him or his goons for what they tried to do to Barbara and Dick Grayson in this scene, though it was the worst Batman film ever, but the songs were good.
This was also a big part of my childhood! And yes, very critical reviews.
This got me into Moloko and now I'm a 25 year old with all their albums (imported in the other 3's case; I have the US release of the first one.) I also have all the other US-released Moloko material.
I was trying to figure out what the name of the song was cuz it was so familiar, I watched the movie tonight for the first time, managed to find the song name through your comment! Brings back memories 🥰 thank you
That's funny, I came back here when I found out the song played during the actual race is Moaner by Underworld.
Same here. The Batman soundtracks were dope af
RIP Coolio. Livin in that true gangsta’s paradise now.

Good screenwriting. If Barbara was really related to Alfred, she would have known that Bruce wasn't just some rich guy who needed a butler. Alfred was his *surrogate father.* But the script acts like Wayne just has Alfred around for sick kicks. Genius writing...
Disagree. We can argue about the execution, but the intent was always some form of jealousy of Bruce because Alfred looked after him, and not Barbara or anyone in England (she believes Alfred abandoned his "real family"). That's pretty fucking clear, and her doing extreme racing is not only a 90s upgrade to the character established in the 1966 show but also to show she's seeking attention...from her family (Alfred). It's all perfectly apt psychology and has a basis in reality. You're angry at or want to kick out the person who is in the place you perceive is yours, so you act out. I still maintain the script is actually a fucking banger, full of great symbolism, conflict and character. The cocktail of the final cut doesn't do it any favours. A remake utilising the shooting script with minimal changes to it, but absolutely redesigning the aesthetic of the film and containing different performances from a different cast would prove (or disprove) my hypothesis that the script is actually quality. Alas nobody would put money towards such a project - not even Clooney, who has enough money he has a fucking satellite monitoring some warlord in the middle east.
@@calumsanderson6741 well said!
@@calumsanderson6741 Fantastic comment! Love this script!
Horrible movie
Well the prev 3 films would say otherwise
1:58 Shaggy's portrait on the ramp
Oh my god, nice catch there
3:44 love the casual cutting away, as if it were possible for Robin and the girl to get out of that situation, haha
DragonSpikeXIII I know how the fuck r they gonna get back up when Robin’s toes are the only thing keeping two human bodies from falling to they’re deaths 💀😂
And how did he not break his ankle lol 😂
Robin could've swung her to the other side of the bridge and then she couldve pulled him up. But that might be a bit of stretch but it could happen. Robin is pretty strong.
@@H81234 Robin is an elite circus performer. I'm sure he has the strength to get back up again.
My question is: when Robin went sliding after Barbara did he plan on catching his foot on the metal rod? Or what was his Plan B in that situation? 😂
This movie is the epitome of the 90s
Comment made me laugh probably true born in 91 cheers
HOW I MISS THE 90S BETTER THAN TODAYS STANDARDS
This is one of the scenes I remembered from my childhood. Great scene.
GV Games it really is. Amazing how much hatred this movie gets.
It was the only scene I remember liking as a kid
I was someone who liked this movie, and this was my favorite scene due to Moloko being played in the background. So catchy, so '90s. I had the soundtrack, and "Fun For Me," Underworld's "Moaner," and Arkarna's "House On Fire" were my favorites.
1:49 “Nice try girly you’re next” 😂
Set designer: They sent us a lot of extra white pyro. I’ll throw it away
Joel Schumacher: We will have random white pyro explosions during the motorcycle race
Ever since I was little I’m still wondering how the hell did they get out of the situation hanging like that 3:30
Robin was an acrobat, he probably had the strength to pull them out of there.
You mean to say after 20/30+ years you are still wondering how they managed to get to safety from that predicament?
I hope you find the answer soon so you can move on with your life and start living! 😊
Did you see the stunts he was doing in the circus scene. I'm sure he had the strength to pull her up.
Probably had a grappling gun
well he is bird bOY.
Did anybody noticed that graffiti art of Shaggy from Scooby Doo on the left at 1:59?
Love how they kept the concept of Barbara riding a motorcycle from the 1960s TV series. ALSO love how Fun for Me transitions into Moaner, those two and House on Fire are my favorite songs on the soundtrack. And how Fun for Me sounds like it's being played on a speaker. That race must have some good taste to be playing Moloko. Wonder if they played Moloko's other song, Day for Night, next? (Sing it Back was yet to come out)
The colors are just so fantastic in this movie. I'll always love this movie for the aesthetic it let's off 😍
Looking back now as this movie was my childhood, true Batman fans can at least acknowledge this and Forever were pretty close to a live action versions of the animated series…. I stand by this
I love the look of these Schumacher films so much. Visually, they're fantastic.
If they released this as a new movie and never released it in 1997, this would hit up today. Even the costumes are kind of the fashion today.
The main guy with the ponytail I think it's Spike right? That's what they're calling him. Is the same actor in The Dark Knight who plays that nervous SWAT member. The guy who says "is that a bazooka?!"
No way bro. Serious?
It is Spike
Holy shit, I had to look it up to see. Also learned who the actor was. Never would of thought he was the same guy in some of my favorite shows like boston public. Wow.
Also just gave me a reason to watch it again lol. I love when I learn just a little more from these movies lol.
Dan Castro ya how crazy is that. I always call his role in The Dark Knight “worlds worse SWAT team member” he’s bugging out the whole time even before he gets in the car
I'm not the biggest fan of this movie, but I do actually get a thrill out of this race scene, especially with the music.
The horrible film that this is aside mostly, this scene is pretty bad ass and actually oddly fits well in a Gotham universe of any type.
0:03 is that Coolio?
kyles Rudolph Ilardenovich Yes it is
John Ilarde He was intended to be the Scarecrow
Wow a leto joker hater get a life nerd
Gordon Freeman Yes. Warner intended to have Coolio play Jonathan Crane here and later bring him back in the fifth film, but Joel Schumacher didn’t get along with Coolio and wanted to recast the role with Nicolas Cage an epossibly retcon Coolio’s character
@@joaquinbarboza3223 i heard Tim Burton wanted to have Brad Dourif as Scarecrow when he was going to direct Batman forever.
3:35 ah, the wonders of late 90s Green Screen technology. That looks horrible, no wonder they cut away from it so abruptly lol
Say what u want about this movie, but this scene of Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson was awesome and was leading up to something more in a future movie for sure. Sucks we will never get to never get to see what came of it.
this movie had everything
“I’m going to take him away from this life of servitude.” Alfred isn’t just some servant. He’s part of the Wayne family and a surrogate father to Bruce.
Exactly! He’s not just Bruce’s butler after his parents died Alfred became a father to him. I hated how she really said “im taking him away from dismal life of servitude” she makes it sound as though he’s a slave in a horrible work environment that he needs to be rescued from which is sooo inaccurate! She’s been there 5 minutes and definitely doesn’t know the first thing about the relationship between him and Bruce and how much they love and care about each other.
@@scartee13 agreed. She should have also figured that Bruce was actually very generous, given that he welcomed her to stay in his home when she showed up uninvited.
Let the haters say what they want but this is truly one of the best parts and scenes in Batman and Robin
this is one of the worst scene
@Nightmare1398 It's supposed to demonstrate her motorcycle-riding talent and how she makes money.
This is Batman Forever.
Alicia Silverstone is just....♥️
Not as hot as Uma Thurman. That saxophone they play every time she shows up... :D
@@YuukiTakemoto1996LOL, Uma Is None Near Of Alicia.
If only Barbara understood the relationship between Bruce and Alfred. It's more than just master and servant. Alfred has always been like a father to Bruce. Dick is right, Alfred and Bruce are like family... I just don't see why she can't realize that. I mean wouldn't she know of what happen to Bruce as a child.
joseph mierzwa Robin should’ve said it’s called a JOB and that Alfred is probably very well compensated for his work 🤵🏼💰💰💰
You can thank the shitty writers for that.
Dick could have mentioned how Alfred helped raise Bruce when his own parents died.
Not to mention Alfred lives well and is presumably compensated just as well. How else would he have been able to support her and have her go into Oxbridge?
Yeah you're thinking waaaay too hard with this movie. Lol. If the writers thought about it that much, Barbara would have already known about Bruce.
This is some lost boys stuff

Spike, a legit MOTO X dare devil and the little kid is his son. also, the song playing, proof the 90s was the best for Electronica, Synth, House, Club, Rave, Techno, Big beat and dance music
Just realized that in the beginning, the rapper Coolio is playing Jonathan Crane.
I'd give anything to live in the universe where Batman Unchained was made and Coolio played Scarecrow.
Also, R.I.P. Coolio
I read Howard Stern was supposed to play him. Him or Nicolas cage
Such a great scene! Joel Schumacher had amazing style. I absolutely love this....I have since I first saw it so many years ago!

Moloko playing in the background! This got me into them.
With the background music during the race This Reminds me of the Batman Beyond scene when terry mcginnis is riding a bike while the Jokerz are laughing cheering and chasing him all the way old Bruce Wayne’s house. Fun fact :even one of the jokerz is named spike
Who saw the clock work orange easter egg
Moloko was named after MOLOKO PLUS..
That song in the background was sick af

One of the few good scenes from this ridiculous movie… Also, I think it’s time for Hollywood to bring Robin and Batgirl back into the franchise. They are not useless.
I fucking lived for this scene as a kid!

Hahaha before fast and furious films and biker Boyz hahaha "fun for me".
Now THIS is podracing!
This is a pretty cool scene. Good use of Underworld.
This scene (and the whole movie) reminds me of the '60's Batman TV show.
The retro scrambler bikes were clearly there with that in mind.
Almost like Barbara didn't care if she was going to die not yelling 3:23
I love this night moto racing. Maybe Alicia Silverstone is an amazing actress ever.
Elliot Goldenthal = George Clooney
Even though robins a master of escapology i still wonder how they managed to scurry outta that one
No CGI just good setup I love it.
Batman & Robin was a studio movie & this the only scene in the movie that feels like Schumacher style.
There should’ve been an Arcade VG with a lifesize cycle called “Gotham City Racers” or even a mid air Surf level like early ish on. Would be be so dope. Schumacher sure was focused on the production quality.
"Spike" is played by Nicky Katt, who starred in Boiler Room, among other films. He also played a bully in Friends.
