Quitting Adobe - Can I switch from Lightroom to Capture One?

Can I cancel my Adobe 'Photo Plan' subscription, and save back those £10 a month? Capture One are still offering a perpetual licence for their software, but is it a good enough alternative?

As a Fuji user I fell into Capture One (as it is one of the best options to handle the X-trans files), and have quite enjoyed it over my stint with Lightroom - definitely worth getting on a sale, though as the price has crept up over time. It's quite customisable so definitely have a go at setting up the workspace how you prefer, the toolbars/panels etc can pretty much all be customised/moved/deleted/popped out etc. If you prefer the thumbnails across the bottom you can do that too (View > Browser). 🙂

I hope you get on well with Capture One - I’ve been using it for four years, and while I also use Lightroom and DxO PhotoLab for some things, C1 is my main editor. While it is easy to get up and running, it takes time to learn its intricacies and techniques so you can get the most from it. My use is somewhat different than yours - I edit a small number of photos but spend a lot of time on each one. I think C1 offers the finest degree of precision and control, but IMO it’s raw development is the best available. I’ve done many in depth comparisons over the years and C1 just seems to to extract more resolution from the raw files, although LR and DxO are good. My Adobe subscription is up in January and I may finally drop it since I keep it mainly for Photoshop (after 23 years I get a cold sweat thinking about not having PS on my computer). However, I use PS less and less with C1 covering almost everything thing I need apart from content aware fill. I hope to see more videos of your Capture One journey!
