    So if amazon products say it only works on Iphone its not true if you get a magnetic case?

      I haven't tested every device, but if it's a MagSafe (intended for Apple) charger and you have a magnetic case on your Android phone aligned with the charging coil, I would expect it to work.

    Thank you mate. That same charger is available online in the UK for £58. You just saved me a small fortune and now I'm confident it will work. If I see you around I owe you a pint 👍

    Great video, I also have an AliExpress Magsafe setup going on.
    I have a pretty obscure phone, though, the Motorola ThinkPhone, so I opted instead to get a ring plate that sticks onto my existing case

    Nice video, David.
    I'm using a Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. I bought 2 new AnkerWorks chargers with Magsafe charging included.
    I purchased a couple of Amazon's mag rings, but they heated up excessively. As in close to 100° F in an hour. I removed them and am stuck now.
    Is perfect ring size or centering critical to avoid some sort of over-worked or WRONG wireless connection making all the heat? Is anyone actually USING any aftermarket mag ring to charge an S21 successfully? Or if I pony up for a nice pre-assembled case, will I have the same overheating issue AND 2 cases I can't use or maybe even return (Equipping mine and wife's identical phones.
    I figure SOMEBODY has been successful. TIA, folks.

      Thanks! Well, I'm using the Mous case on my S24 Ultra every night to charge, and it doesn't get too hot. I think the placement is really critical to making the charging process efficient - inefficiency will probably manifest as heat. The thickness of the case could also be a factor, did you attach a ring to a thick case?

      @@DavidAddis I put the magnetic rings inside the case I have, b/c as big as they are, I don't have room for the extra drag coming out of my shirt pocket. Never tried the outside. I did not think that was a good spot anyway.

    This might be a stupid question but does the charger stick to samsung without a special case?

    • @DavidAddis
      @DavidAddis  Місяць тому +1

      Perfectly valid question! No, MagSafe is not built in to any Samsung phones, you need a case (or to stick on a magnetic ring yourself).

      I'm trying to figure out if just putting a magnetic ring on will make it capable of going with the magsafe, does the magnetic ring heat up? If you try to use a magnetic ring with a standard qi charger it does heat up. @@DavidAddis

      @@bjfire01 Another good question! I don't know the exact technical details, but it does seem like some Qi chargers don't expect anything except a charging coil to be present. I've had a few with foreign object detection which will turn themselves off if, say, a hunk of metal is present on the charger (which is good, you don't want it to heat up and catch fire).
      But if a charger is designed for magnetic charging, especially those that are compatible with Apple devices, I would expect they have made allowances for the metal ring to be present (since every iPhone will have it built-in).
      The chargers I use daily don't heat up excessively, so if that's happening, try a different phone/case/charger combo. :)
