Nicole, I just wanted to tell you thank you for your 12 days of Xmas videos. They were very informative and enjoyable! Thank you for all of your efforts!
I have a Juki du-1181N it is a walking foot machine but I always use a 4 to stitch my bags and wallets love your wallet pattern I purchased it and made my first large wallet thanks so much for designing it can’t wait to make more
I really enjoy your tutorials. You are so competent and confident that it makes me want to stop what I’m doing and try the pattern lol. And I appreciate that you talk about your mistakes, reasons for doing things, etc. thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you for the thread comparisons/ review. I have been considering experimenting with thread and this info is a great starting point. Loving the tall wallet as well. Might have to grab that front your shop soon! Happy sewing!
Thank you for such an informative tutorial on the features of the different threads. I appreciate all of your explanations as you sew along, mistakes included.
I like your style. You are very down to earth and thorough without being boring. You are also articulate and have a sense of humor. Thanks! P.S. I also have a silver tortie. And, I used to use a thinner thread in the bobbin on my 1940 Singer 15-91, and it was fine, no tension issues. Then I bought some new bobbin cases and dedicated one to Tex 45, so that I could loosen it enough and leave it that way. So now I use Tex 45 top and bottom.
You have the most informative videos. I am going to try the Tall Wallet. Your precision is amazing! I also appreciate your honesty about making the occasional error. Just sew on. Great video and gorgeous wallet. Thank you.
Wonderful timing for me I made a cork purse for my daughter for Christmas and wanted to make a billfold also, but didn't have a pattern I liked... Then I found your channel, wow! this perfect for what I need. Thank you . I have bought the pattern.
Good to know! The closeups are so hard to film because my phone is in front of me, blocking what I'm sewing, but I'm formulating!! Thanks for the feedback!
When you first got me hooked on cork, I started with Gutterman Mara 70, which is a forty weight polyester. Similar thickness. to the Aurifiil on the green spool. But just last week I used my industrial with some cork and some Tex 69 thread and I really liked the bold look. That being said I would like something in-between that will work on my domestic Juki TL18 (basically same machine you use) I don't like how the Tex 69 behaves in the domestic. Since I tailor at a mens store, Wawak has been my go to for years. I like they're really stepping up their game for us bag makers.
I was thinking u might want to try from Wawak the Gutermann Tera polyester multifilament thread. They hv it in Tex 35, 50, 75 I use the Tex 50 bcuz I hv the HD9 sewing machine or u might want to try the one Sewnar is talking about, they also sell it in Tex 35, 45, & 75. I hope this helps
Thank u so much for sharing, I'm going to try it. I'm using Gutermann Tera polyester Tex 50 (They also sell it in (Tex 35) in Wawak for my HD9 sewing machine, which I like. For my industrial 1541s I'm using Selric 1500 yes UV resistant High strength polyester thread #69 Tex 70 from Amazon which I also like...just sharing
Love the color of this wallet. I, too, just received the Optipop 45 from wawak after watching your unboxing. In addition to a few neutral colors of the Wawak thread, I also just received the Variegated 45 from Siah Swag. Hope to be sewing with these threads soon. I have the same machine as you do and am so excited to see how awesome the stitching is.
Thanks for this demo. I love the way Tex 45 looks. After I watched your box opening, I ordered three Tex 45 spools from Siah Swag. They arrived rather quickly so I am anxious to give them a try! I have watched your tall wallet video several times, and I always learn something new each time. I think I am ready to make a wallet now!! You are so much fun to watch and so down-to-earth and honest!! Thanks for sharing all your tips and tricks!!
Too funny! One of my dog’s was in the room with me as I was watching this video and when your dog was barking, Neptune got up and went to the window looking for your dog. 😂 Love the pattern, and I was just ordering some other supplies from Wawak, so added some of the Tex 45 to my order. Can’t wait to give it a try! Thanks for everything!
Thank you for showing us your tension settings! I have the same machine and I was ready to throw it out the window last night haha apparently I mess with the tension too much
I really like the way you do your card pockets. I usually to DST top and bottom and measure. soooo time consuming! I'm looking forward to using your technique with less tape and using the card as the measurement. That way there's no messing up the depth!
You and your videos are great! I was so glad to see the comparison of the threads. I have a Juki TL 2200 QVP and wondered could I successfully use Tex 45 or 70. You made it very clear throughout your video! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this video and info on the thread, I've been using upholstery thread to do top stitching on my bags and my tl does not like it at all. My tension is out of whack.
I have a bobbin case for 50wt cotton and a bobbin case for tex threads. That way I can just switch the bobbin case and not have to fiddle with it over and over. I have the same machine :)
Hi Paula…I use Oly fabric. Hobby Lobby has it, very inexpensive. It’s used to make kids super hero capes or costumes with, very durable. 15 colors!! Oh and it does not fray.
Oly is the same stuff like Lefty wrote! But i get the big roll from a home improvement store like this www.lowes.com/pd/Sta-Green-Basic-Landscape-Fabric-Common-3-ft-x-50-ft-Actual-3-02-ft-x-50-17-ft/1000002562?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-lwn-_-ggl-_-LIA_LWN_236_Hardscapes-_-1000002562-_-local-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&gbraid=0AAAAAD2B2W_gLSFTe4I5FGw2ZEpsoT6Q3&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzeSdBhC4ARIsACj36uFmS_VXqOHRJipamPFSoRnOAX5f-7saY4KvHrjC_Hi6D85E0KF3GOoaAsRcEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I enjoyed your comparison between the threads. I’ve been wondering if I should use Tex 70. I have a baby lock 2010 which is equivalent to your Juki 2010. Going forward what do you think you will use more Tex 70 or 45.
I think it’s called olyfun and you can get it at a fabric store usually, or you can use wide ribbon. You just don’t anything thick like cotton because it adds up with all the layers.
I have a question about interfacing cork. Can you use a heat press to add interfacing, decovil or foam? And what size and kind of needle do you use to sew cork? I’m worried about cork splitting where it’s sewn. Have you had trouble with that? If you have a video that discusses any of these questions, I would love to to have a link to it. Thanks, Cheryl
I usually interface my linings, not the cork but you can if you want. I generally don’t iron my cork but I’ve heard people do it. I use a size 16 or 18 needle. I haven’t had any issues with cork splitting where it’s sewn, and I extend my stitch length to avoid that (I use at least 3.5 if not 4mm length). I always put all my sewing info in the description box of each video too so you can check there for specifics!
Hi Nicole, I saw that you used RFID material in this video and was wondering if you are going to start using this on your wallets or if this was something a customer wanted. I know you sell a lot of wallets so was interested to know if I should consider using it. Thank you for your help.
Hi! I offer it as an add on and use it quite often. I get it from different sellers online but I am in love with the fusible RFID from fabric funhouse because it provides structure while adding the card protection. If you purchase from fabric funhouse be sure to use SEWGNAR10 for 10% off your first order!
Hi. I'm new to your channel. I love that you use the same machine as me! It's newer to me so I'm still getting used to it. I noticed that you seem to be using a Teflon foot. I bought a set of some from Amazon I believe but they are crooked. Ugh. Do you like yours? If so, do you have a link to where you purchased it? I've subscribed to your channel and I can't wait to watch more of your videos!

Great thread discussion. Totally agree. I prefer the thicker threads too. Just upped my game to Tex 90 for my new Juki 1541s. Love how the topstitching looks. Drool. Lol. BTW do you have a similar “Tall Wallet” pattern (and fewer card slots) that isn’t so tall? Long/tall wallets don’t fit in my little bags. Thanks.
I don't but I've added it to the list! I do have a smaller wallet coming out soon, I'm still writing it right now but it'll be traditional style card slots with a snap pouch and bill slot, bifold style.
Thanks for this video. I have been wondering why you used the Mara 120 instead of the Mara 70 which is Tex 40. So this Tex 45 is similar. I do know that my Juki Haruka TL-18QVP thread cutter doesn't mind the Mara 70 at all. Thanks so much for your videos, very informative and fun to watch.
I admittedly don’t know ANYTHING about thread 🫣 I just started really exploring it and the only reason is because I knew my Mara wouldn’t work on my industrial once I get it going. I’ve researched the heck out of size and Tex and blah blah blah but it’s all so confusing to me for some reason. I learn best by trying in real life rather than reading about it, so this is me learning as I go! Do you know of any resources I can share that show which thread is comparable to another size wise?
@@SewGnar Wawak has a great chart for Tex size to machine needle size that I like. They also have a chart that shows what the topstitch would look like with different weights. My thread cutter was doing that too but I have the option for the needle to be down or up when stopping, if down the thread cutter works beautifully
