Join me as I sew my own and other designer's patterns. My schtick is using cork fabric, so I make amendments to patterns and design my own around that textile!
Sirona Crossbody with Corner Accents
Let's dust off an oldie but a goodie and whip up a Sirona Crossbody - this time I added the corner accents and made some changes to the interfacing as well as the side connectors, and I show a fun, new way of attaching the zipper tape!
Get the pattern here - it includes the full size that we make in the video, as well as a smaller clutch size. www.sewgnar.co/product-page/sirona-crossbody-clutch
This is one of the few patterns I have that can be made in any textile, however you'll need to interface/stabilize to your liking as I don't cover that for cotton, etc. The pattern is written with the strap, zipper overlay, and corner accents for raw edge textiles.
I sewed on a Juki TL2010q, size 18 needle, tex 70 thread, 4mm stitch length.
Cork is seafoam and natural, both from Fabric Funhouse - use code SEWGNAR10 for 10% off your order!

Free Tutorial - Trick or Treat Bag

Whip up this bag for that special little trick or treater in your life! I went shopping in my studio and used some gummy vinyl that I've had in my stash for years, I thought this type of vinyl would be perfect for sticky candy since it's easily wipeable! The HTV was a 12" x 12" piece that I picked up from a craft store at some point or another and matched the watercolor smudge webbing that came...

Day 1 of 12 Days of Christmas - Cord Keepers
You’re a great teacher, and I love your sense of humor! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Everyone has a little different way of doing things and I really enjoy learning new tips and tricks for things. Thanks again!
Enjoyed watching you make that beautiful bag! As usual, I learnt a lot! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this!😊
You are so welcome!
Hello !! I’m waiting for your 12 days of Christmas.. Can you tell me when you are Starting the Fun. Thank You.
For my patrons the videos start on thanksgiving, and for everyone else the videos start on Dec 1st!
@@SewGnarthank you.. I will be watching on Dec 1. I loved your snap bag from last year. Made lots of them..
The changes you made are great! Love it. I have made two of these so far and I think I should have watched the video before😂. I am new to bag making and it is a work in progress but I think I will definitely not cut my fleece to fit the entire cut of fabric. Part of my complaint is that there is so much bulk that it is hard to sew over and things are not as crisp as I would want them.
Reducing bulk will definitely help in those areas, a common way is to keep it out of your stitch line! But you’re new, it’s a marathon not a sprint!!
What an interesting way to do the bottom corners!
I love the way it looks!
very welcome do you sell cork or suggest a place that sells cork with designs I can’t find any
Check sew many creations!
Love the corner accent. Sorry if I missed it, but is the lining a WPC or cotton?
In this video I did an interfaced cotton!
Love the new zipper method, must try this next time. Don't i weak the seam by punching a hole in the middle??
You’d think but adding the rivet makes it even more sturdy in my experience. You can push it directly the the outside of the seam if you’re uncomfortable punching right on it!
what is the fabric called that you use for your card slots, it looks like some kind of ribbon.thank you
It’s landscape/weed barrier fabric from a gardening store!
Thanks for the info on the new zipper method. I'm going to try this on an Oxbow tote. Can you tell me how you make the zipper template for the interior pocket? What are the dimensions? If this is explained in another video, I'd love to see it. I think it would be a game changer for me. Thanks for the excellent content. I'm new here.
Hi, its a pattern piece thats included within the pattern itself!
Great instructions! Very clear!! Thanks!!
You are so welcome!
I have no clue what to buy… i tried buying from yur links and nothing made sense.. there is NO 9mm double sided caps on that link
The link that is in the description is for the press itself, and I purchased the die set to use 9mm rivets, which are then purchased separately.
Love this pattern!
Thank you!
Great video - I just bought a Brother SDX 125 (used) so this is a great help
Great to hear!
That new zipper method brilliant 🤩 thank you once again for sharing your work ❣️
Thank you! Cheers!
You make this look so easy 👏👏👏 thank you.
You’re welcome 😊
Looks like a pair of knickers 😂😂😂😂 I love it you are an amazing sewer ❤
Thank you!
love the fabric colours 😍
Thank you! 😊
looks like panties in the thumbnail lol
Looks like a swimsuit bottom
Haha kinda does!
Hmmm, wonder how that would turn out in splash fabric with cork corners? Ideas, Ideas. I like cork corners, especially on cotton.
That would be cool!
Just finished watching the video and it was extremely easy to follow. I do have a question, for the card slots, your pattern references " Ribbon or Landscape fabric" . When I search for landscape fabric, I do no see anything that looks like what you are using. By chance does the fabric you are using go by another name? Thank you.
It’s weed barrier fabric from a garden store! Or you can use Cambric from a hobby shop.
@ Thank you for your prompt response.
Just ordered some of your corset style hardware. Those look really cool. Thanks 🙏 ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
I love it
Thank you!
Have you considered offering the pattern for your Mary Poppins Bag that you showed from your wagon. It looks really useful and sooo you!!
That’s the sew together bag by sew demented!
Perfect tips sewing with cork. You answered more questions than I thought I had.
Glad it was helpful!
Love this. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Oohhh also I love how you did the bottom of the bag so much more precise everything matches up great
Thank you so much!!
Can I ask you where you got your Teflon foot for your machine? I have a TL as well it’s such a different price from amazon from juki junkies like $30 difference so I’m wondering if amazons is good or not, or if anyone on here knows of a good place for one of those feet like hers is?
Shoot I got it so many years ago, I’m not sure. I definitely didn’t get it from Amazon tho, it was an online sewing store.
Do you have a video that shows how to load the svg file to the machine
I have a couple, this one shows it too
Great information - thank you. What kind of foam did you use for this bag and where can I get it?
You can get it online or from most stores (Joann, etc). It’s pellon flex foam.
thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! may i ask the measurements for the magnetic snaps? thank you!
I used the pattern piece for that placement!
@@SewGnar thank you! i have the pattern and i've made it several times with fabric. i wasn't sure if you changed the location due it being made with cork. thanks for the info!
Thank you. I'll be making several of these for my next craft fair.
I love the combination of colors in this bag. Do you ever ad an accent of cork to the decorative webbing? I was thinking it might give the straps some oomph?
I haven’t, I think it would be too thick for my hardware but if you have the big boys it could work! And I think it would be really nice!
Hi! Do you remember what size were your buckles! You did an amazing job btw !!
These are 1”
Hi! Do you remember what size were your buckles! You did an amazing job btw !!!
Where do you get your interfacing from the craft tex that is? I hope I spelled that right!
Kraftex! I Google and find the best price for how much I want. I generally get an entire bolt because I use so much of it.
@@SewGnar also where did you get the 1/2” tape. I need some that is super sticky.
@@raby_jess Wawak!
Love your templates
Thank you!
Nice video! Just a comment. Stay stitching and back stitching are two separate techniques for different purposes. You used them interchangeably throughout the video. It might be confusing for those who are learning. Also, a fun term to know: turn of cloth. That is what the allowance is for when you leave a space between edges on the strap before folding- to accommodate for the fold and edges still align.
Very cool to know, thanks for the info!
What brand of ink do you use for your stamp? I’ve used two different brands and they both smeared
Hi, I’m not sure what you’re asking as I don’t stamp anything. I used a heat press for my logo, is that what you mean?
@ okay. Yes. I thought it was a stamp. It’s very nice ☺️
I love your logo, the fabric one and the stamped one...where did you get the stamped one?
Hi, these are cork tags that I had made by all this wood (but I use a laser now, this video is 5 years old)!
Clear, concise tutorial which didn't rush through the steps or instructions. Loved that there wasn't music distracting. Love that you can keep on tract and thought when your sweet pups are being active. Will be making this today. Also could you please tell me what Juki machine you use. Seems that nearly all the bag makers I watch have a Juki. I am impressed that your machine easily goes through the cork. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! I have a TL2010q. I used a Janome for years before I got this machine and it worked great with cork! No need to up your machine, start with upping your needle and thread size a step at a time to see your machines limits.
@@SewGnar Thank you for your quick reply. I had previously made a handbag with cork and my machine just wouldn't go through the layers when it had cork/lining/stabilizer. I have a Bernina and had adjusted everything, thread, needle and was even using a walking foot. I have been seeing several makers use Juki's - that was the reason I have asked. Thanks so much
Hi Nicole can I ask how do you spell the name of alibaba supplier, ive looked but can't find them. Many thanks 😊
Lihui Imports!
@@SewGnar thank you 😊
Have to love that her favorite color is rainbow! Hope you had a great visit.
She’s the best!!
SO Cute ❤
Thank you!
This is so sweet
Thank you 😊
So cute! Love the colors in/on the bag.
Thank you! 😊
