Great video ! I'm restoring my high school car, it's a 1975 El Camino. Mice have been under the dash and I have to clean it out and see what damage they may have done. Can I just remove the upper dash pad to see what's going on in the dash without pulling the entire dash ? The air vents are plugged and do not flow air. When I turn the air on, I can hear debris (nest ?) moving around. Thanks for your help, Dan
It will be very time consuming to pull the dash pad off only. Quickest way is drop the steering column and remove the dash. Chances are there is a nest of insulation in one of the AV vent tubes. I would start with removing the lower dash vents (along the bottom), clean those out then pull the tubes and move onto the blend door prior to removing the dash totally.
Thank you for the video. How do you remove the speedometer cluster to get to the light bulbs and speedometer cable? Looks to me like there are a couple nuts on the back side, but I'm not too sure. Regards, Hank
Speedometer is attached in the gauge cluster pod. The face plate will need to be removed, two screws are set in the dash on the LH and RH side of the large round gauges. From there it just pulls straight out, then your able to remove the speedo by popping the needle off (use a fork from the kitchen with a little pressure not hard or it will bust) and remove the screws in the face plate.
Boy o boy....How did I ever accomplish this job on my 73 Caprice coupe so many years ago when the heater core let go...Don't know how I ever got it all back together and more or less working properly...
@@dorianness2280 Horns are fairly simple. Just restored a set for my own car. 2 Horn set up high and low pitch. Wiring is a hot wire with the horn button. Grounded to the car with the bolt.
Technically you should be able to pull the HVAC control unit and reach your arm up there to get to everything. I would recommend pulling the lower AC vents off the bottom of the dash and going at it from below as some of those screws are hard to get to.
I just found your site. I am working on a 76 chevelle which there is not much info until I found this site. My car is a non air car and the mice got into the centre fresh air vent. I got it out and repaired but I can't figure out how to get it back in, any idea's without removing the dash?
Check out some of my other videos like removing the lower section of the dash. It can be done but its going to be tricky. 4 bolts from the back side need to be slid back into place to install the whole housing. Hard to do with it in the car but not impossible.
Controllers should change out only ones you have to watch are the 73s and early 74's they had a metal vac port with slightly different wiring vac wise.
This helped me a whole lot. Do you have a video of what goes back together first when it comes to the cluster, odometer and all?

I'm having difficulty finding that wire
@@dorianness2280 might be cut back in the harness. Should run down the drivers fender.
So if you want to change the front speaker, you need to go through all of this?
