I see this video is going on 5 yrs. since posted, so, I'm late to the party. I have to say this is one of the best done videos I've seen on here. Coming from a serious gearhead and do-it-yourselfer. What forum were you referring to in the video?
One of the main points of the black ( frit) band is to stop the ultra violet light from the sun, degrading the polyurethane and breaking the seal to the glass. Polyurethane was not used on 60/70 cars. The first car to have a PU seal in the UK was the Ford Sierra circa. 1982. Not sure what the first car in the US was but I guess it would have been a Volvo.
Hi, On my 1970 nova all the channels are new bare metal. Should I leave it bare before painting the whole car for you to prime or you want the car painted 1st then you sand and prime/install? Thanks john
I have put a wrench to every last bolt on my car... and today learned something new. That dam strip comes in different thicknesses? Old gm assembly manuals list part numbers, but usually no specs.
I know this is 2021 but I have a question. When my 67 Chevelle was being torn down it had a rubber gasket around the windshield. Can anyone tell me what that was all about? It started out as a base 283 air car.It has been in paint jail for 3 years. So this video is a breath of fresh air...I ordered the urethane dam kit already so I was on the right track..Thank so much!!!!
This company is not interested in your business. After sending emails without receiving a response I called Scranton PA and spoke to Jeff who promised to call me back within the hour.Never heard a another word.
Hi Jeff, i have a mid year corvette question >> do you use the o.e.m. rubber gasket on the front windshield >> i just had mine installed with the gasket and that bedding compound the corner stainless trim doesn't seem to fit right ..>> do you have any videos on installing a mid year front windshield ?? thx i wish you lived closer
Hi Jeff, I have a 70 corvette that no one seems to know how to properly install the windshield. Do have any videos on a C3 corvette? Thanks for the help.
Hi, I live in Los Angeles Co. Sylmar, California. I own a 1970 Chevy Impala Custom and These glass shop in the San Fernando Valley want to brake the glass and replace it with their glass for a higher price. What you just did is actually the correct way to install a window shield. These guys charge between $150 to $500 to do the job. With no warrantee. I wished you were in California so I could drive to your shop and have you do my front windshield and the back windows. Sincerely Rey Zapata, Sylmar,California. 😎🙏🏽😇👍🏽
I have both a 60 Cadillac DeVille and a 60 Pontiac wagon that have broken windshields. Both have the glass mounted in a rubber gasket. Not sure how to go yet but I will investigate before I start. This video is for "sticking" the glass to the opening. Much different technique than the rubber gasket I'm up against.
that's true. not sure i have ever seen that foam dam in that year and i have done tons of them and those went in with roll kits 3/16" still was a nice install
I have sent an email, but apparently, according to other posts here, I will not get a reply from Jeff regarding the Dam for the windshield. I have been scouring the web looking for it but everything is the sticky 3M ribbon that doesn't seat the windshield depth properly. I need help!
Sir, I’m getting ready to replace a windshield in a 1977 Camaro did this car originally have a PPG or LOF windshield in it ?Is that all I need is 3/8” x 3/8” ? 3/8” x 1/4” butyl tape ?
@@JohnSmith-bx1mp I do think that Camaro used buttyl tape. But every where I check, it seams to suck in the hot sun. Urathane and "the damn" is the way to go!
As this gentleman is installing the windshield he is not sure what size butyl tape ! He says he’s going to check it all after he edit the video ..... This guy will not be installing my windshield !
This was the best tutorial on putting in a windshield I've seen so far, thanks for sharing!
Does the pinch weld need to be bare metal or should it be painted before installing the glass
James Adams not bare metal... bare metal rusts... primer it and paint first
How much is the kit? Nice work BTW.
Waiting on this answer as well
Nice job! Fun to watch pros that know what they're doing. Learned a lot from this.

Excellent video.
What is the distance from the edge of the dam to the windshield edge?

where can i purchase the urethane dam ?
I want to know the same thing! No reply?
Including video of removing trim and reinstalling trim would have been helpful.
Brad Wilkins If you don’t know how to do that you should not be working on a car !
@@michaelpeterson4348 lmfao what a weak comment how's a person going to learn about these old cars if they can't ask a fuckin question
No pinchweld primer? Do I need it? If I use it, can I apply the night before or does it dry quickly?
FYI Installation kits (with step-by-step instructions) are available at www.rustrreplace.com. Look in their Glass Setting Supplies section.
Gm didnt use urethane in the 60s or 70s.
Thank you for the lesson . You do excellent work!
Are you guys still in business??
