Just ask yourself this: Do your values support the life and wellbeing of other people? Specifically, those outside your immediate circle. If not, you need to rethink your values.

I agree. A person like Trump for example is no surprise to me. Selfish, narcissists exist. What surprises me is that anyone believes a word that comes out of his mouth. Trump isn't a problem. He's one man. He's rather meaningless. Or at least he should have been. But add stupid people to the mix and suddenly he's President.

You rightly point out that nearly all European nations are light years away from the US in the metric of valuing their citizens. This is nothing new for most of the population of the failed state that is in question. I would like to remind us all that it's actually so much worse than that as most nations of the entire world, not only Europe are treating their populace as though they are valued. I live in Thailand, and although it has been ruled by a military dictator for 6 years now, it's people still enjoy all the same benefits that you mentioned the Europeans do.
Just let that sink in.. people in military dictatorships are better off than the people in the US..

Maybe lying for Jesus, on a daily basis, has negative mental health consequences. I, for one, have difficulty comprehending the mental gymnastics necessary to accept unsubstantiated beliefs as a valid substitute for substantiated facts. The idea of asserting that something is true, when I don't even know that it's true myself, seems wrong to me. Indeed, I cannot expect others to accept a claim that I might make, if that claim cannot be supported by creditworthy evidence.

"...the value the well being of their people."
Whoah, chill! It's merely accidental. It turns out that well being is really super good for productivity and the economy.
If, for instance, you compare the health care costs and potential tax paying and productivity of children here with children in Uvalde or Newtown, it turns out that dead children don't pay taxes at all, ever, and many of the other children there are far less productive because of trauma. And over here, for some reason a lot less children die at schools and far less of them are traumatized.
So we figured that for the sake of productivity we try and decrease the risk of death and trauma in schools to a minimum.
This has lead to an increased number of children growing up and studying and getting better jobs and paying taxes and a nice side effect is that the well being also increases.
So it's not just that we care about the well being, but that we have reasons to care that are solidly grounded in actual fucking reality. Something that is said to be impossible by the most profound and well respected theological apologists who say they have a solid grounding and admit they have no way of showing how to go about building actual and verifiable morality on that supposed and assumed grounding that has no verifiable evidence to support it.
What I'm saying is that it's super useful to not just claim to be a secular country but to actually have a secular government running a secular country and to not lie about where morality comes from; it's just really practical to cooperate and not fuck our social brains up unnecessarily with shit like theism or bigotry or a bullet in a child's head.

@@paineoftheworld Hm. I don't know the answer to that. Good question. I do know that you can have one without the other, but you can also have both Medicare and Medicaid at the same time. I always thought state taxes paid for Medicaid, but Medicare was a federal insurance that accompanies Social Security. For example, Medicare could be your primary insurance if you're disabled, but Medicaid would balance your co-pay if you were also low income.
ETA: I just looked it up. The federal government does pay a significant portion of funds for Medicaid, but the percentage varies state by state. I stand by the statement that they are two different types of insurance, but you're right that the feds pay the states a large portion for Medicaid allotment. Also it's about polarisation. The US political system is not a system where you can think freely about various topics and choose the party that you find most logical or balanced. No, you have to pick a side because there is nothing besides the two extremes to choose from and you have to stand by it. If you don't you'll likely loose the support of your social circle.
Of course the "other" party and everything it stands for is always the oponent which makes it far less likely to aggree on topics. In a good system most core questions should heavily overlap between the parties and only fringe questions should be determined by public opinion through elections.
In the US however the day might come when after an election armed civil unrest tears apart the country. On the way to this day the policies are characterised by massive policy changes after elections and extreme political views due to every party wanting to distance their own position as far away from the other as possible.

There's more shootings in blue states like Illinois...so that is why I'm asking, is it straight up convictions for murder or actually shooting deaths? Red states are actuality more proficient at solving and convicting murder....so a conviction for murder counts as a murder and a unsolved homicide in Chicago doesn't count?

    • @Mythraen
      @Mythraen 7 місяців тому

      Per capita, dude.
It's not per state. It's per state per capita. It's how you get real representative numbers. It's also what you'll tend not to see when people want to feed you propaganda.
Let's take an extreme example. Let's say there's 100 people in Missouri and 10,000 in Illinois. That's total. Like I said, it's an example.
Then, let's say there's two gun violence deaths in Missouri and 20 in Illinois.
Someone who wants to lie to you will tell you that Illinois has 10x the gv deaths as Missouri... and they didn't actually say anything untrue.
Someone who wants to provide accurate information will tell you that Illinois has 0.2 gv deaths per 100 people, and Missouri has 2 gv deaths per 100 people. That's actually 1/10th the gun violence on average.
Note, these numbers were obviously invented to show how statistics can used correctly and incorrectly, and it's just one example. Statistics can be manipulated to show what you want people to see in multiple ways. And graphs are even easier to manipulate.
In my experience, most people who want to manipulate the data shill for the R side.
"Red states are actuality more proficient at solving and convicting murder"
I don't know if that's true, but the blue states are more populated, which means it's harder to solve crimes for multiple reasons.

I have yet to disagree with any of the PragerFU material. As an atheist (with a sense of humor as well :-P), I have enjoyed Mr Deity's videos of wisdom and wisecracks.
On topic, I am supportive of a variety of particular improvements in firearms laws (I'm a gun owner who has done enough research to conclude there are very good historical and legal arguments AGAINST my ownership of my firearms...imagine that! lol) The devil, as they say, is in the details though. You will be hard pressed, if not fail entirely, to find a military that uses what are called, in the media, "assault weapons". Why? Militaries use almost exclusively automatic rifles as the typical soldier's weapon. The weapons used in spectacular mass shootings are semI-automatic. That said, there's little solace to be found in the distinction when it comes to lethality of these events; one death is too many. Let's just end the somewhat hyperbolic "weapons of war" language.
The other 800 lb gorilla in the room is the fact that, for every day when there is a horrific shooting with 2, 4, 6, 8, ...18...etc...fatalities, that SAME DAY an average of 120 people, ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY, die all over the country from, almost exclusively, handguns, and about HALF of those due to SUICIDE. Let that sink in. Mass shootings, like plane crashes, are spectacles, horrific, but spectacles that do not reflect the whole respective "safety/danger" stories. As a good medical diagnostician would do, we need to recognize we have both acute and chronic societal/legal conditions that need addressing. Control access to any firearm, especially by younger individuals, and, critically when someone was already subject of a prior weapons confiscation (The July 4th shooter had a knife and sword collection taken after threats made to family...and NO criminal charges were involved, but rather the situation was treated as "mental health" issue. Something wrong there. eh? First no charges, then no red flag procedure...double system failure). Suicides are a failure of everything surrounding the victim...friends, family, schools, local/state/federal healthcare systems...the victim may have felt there was no one close to them to turn to, willing to be open and supportive (general societal discomfort with mental health issues and treatment), or no one professional to turn to without getting past a variety of barriers (little or no publicly funded treatment, many health insurance plans, if you have one, do not pay for much or any mental health treatment). Let's try to keep an eye on the acute, and the other eye on the chronic. Much needs to be done tomorrow and the next decade. Unfortunately, given the current politics in the US, I'm not hopeful. What with the way campaigns are financed, how the Supreme Court has been stacked and the near complete partisan legislative paralysis, these issues may not be resolved, or even addressed, for a generation. Keep our eyes, ears and minds open, care for those injured in mind or body, fight the selfish-in-power, help your neighbor...we need to be a country, not a slow motion calamity. Let's not hit that iceberg...

" if not fail entirely, to find a military that uses what are called, in the media, "assault weapons". Why?"
Because that's what the civilian versions are fucking called. They're not called "assault rifles" because those are military and illegal market. A distinction needs to be made btwn hunting rifles, and swinging dick rambo toys. And there's a reason that these big children don't simply buy hunting rifles that "do the same thing" as AR15s, isn't there.
"an average of 120 people, ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY, die all over the country from, almost exclusively, handguns, and about HALF of those due to SUICIDE. Let that sink in."
While it's true that mass shootings kill fewer people, it's also true that letting them continue just so some indifferent assholes can have the toy that they want, regardless of their legal status, is an asinine idea.
It's actually about 2/3rds suicide ; but only those indifferent assholes consider those people to be 100% expendable, or at best, "will commit suicide some other way", which is factually untrue. I guess American's lives don't "sink in" for you.

You're being pedantic, Brandon. Many handguns and rifles available for civilian use are clones of military weapons built to nearly identical specifications, often by the same manufacturer. Take the FN 15 M4/M16, for example.

I think you're getting confused with the fact that they aren't currently used for the military...b/c there's better stuff. Just b/c civilians get a knock-off version of the original doesn't mean it isn't an assault rifle that follows a design used by the military.

I agree with everything in this video except for one thing. The AR-15 was not designed for military use, nor was it based on a rifle designed for military use. The M-16 was modeled after the AR-15, not the other way around. Also, the Ruger Mini-14 uses the same ammo as the AR-15, can do just as much damage as the AR-15, it's every bit as powerful and fast as the AR-15... Yet nobody's losing their mind over it because it doesn't look like a military rifle.
The AR-15 and guns like it are definitely not needed for "self defense" and most people have no need for one. That said, bad arguments that show you don't know the history of a gun are only going to make the people you need to convince roll their eyes at you.

Ppl usually use AR-15 as a stand in for general assault rifles because it’s a “household name” in America as one way to put it.

So restrict that one too, gotcha. Plus everyone knows there's plenty of guns like the AR-15, so they can be restricted too, but it just so happens it's a popular weapon of mass shooters, thus it should be looked into restricting or even outright banning first.

Brian's knowledge is exactly correct. While an AR is not full auto, infantry equipped with the full auto version are trained to use semi-auto for nearly all situations. They don't carry as much ammo as some school shooters so are trained to conserve.
