    My uncle bought a crashed 1951 Piper model PA-18-125 early in 1952; he had it back in the air mid-1953 when he loaded his gear into and flew to Alaska from NW Montana. Fast forward to the end of 2017, he's still there, and still flying that same Piper with a 1956 Lycoming.

    The SuperSTOL is more of a competition plane. A one trick pony. The Highlander is a more reasonable choice for most people. Cheaper to build, faster cruise, more useful load, and still excellent STOL capabilities.

    That "Piper Super Cub" in the beginning is anything but a Super Cub. Cubs are great airplane if all you want to carry is two people and a knapsack. Slowly.

    *!!!!!Wow!!!!!* That black Piper Super Cub got off the ground and into the air ... and onto the ground and stopped ... in just over the length of the airplane!!!!! That is extremely impressive! Anyone know the specs on that specific airplane --- especially weight and engine HP ??? I understand these videos are not in similar enough conditions to provide accurate comparisons between the different airplanes ... but is the PiperSuperCub really as much better in takeoff and landing distance as these videos make it appear? PS: I do understand the PiperSuperCub is not side-by-side seating like most/all the other airplanes, which presumably is part of the reason the performance is [or appears] so much better. And I too prefer side-by-side seating, but what else explains the apparent difference?

    why are the most of the aircrafts taildraggers? any special reason of tail draggers being rugged or more suited for the back country?

    • @greatquotestoliveby
      @greatquotestoliveby 6 років тому +10

      Rahul Dobhal 1 wheel up front is more prone to get stuck or to tip the plane to one side. 2 wheels up front, especially with big tires, are more stable in bouncy terrain.

    • @dixiedog1179
      @dixiedog1179 6 років тому +1

      Rahul Dobhal ya! Why?

    • @twopheew9995
      @twopheew9995 6 років тому +6

      The fact that they are taildraggers doesn't make them more STOL, but it helps with prop clearance in rough terrain.

    • @chadmuska259
      @chadmuska259 6 років тому +4

      Taildraggers tend to be better for STOL because they then to be lighter and are designed to fly at lower speeds. I.E a piper super cub is significantly slower than a Cessna 172, therefore your flying speeds are closer to your stall and landing speeds and both of those speeds are closer to zero, at which point you've landed.

    • @Robocline
      @Robocline 6 років тому +3

      2 reasons really. nose gear is heavier than tail gear and the tail dragger has an upward pitch on the ground which helps with short take offs especially when the prop is a bit oversized

    Back country strip aircraft w/Tundra Busch (Alaskan) wheels for LSA. Взлет разбег / Take off distance 20 - 40 метров, при 70 км/ч и пробег при посадке / landing distance 35 - 50 метров = это значит легко садится на пляже или около речки, на поляне кемпинга. Есть конверсии в гидроплан, складные крылья для транспортировки на авто трейлере. Часто используется очень надежные engine Rotax 912 - 914 имеющие 100/115 л.с. Для любителей с железными шарами ускорения как у суперкара (как у истребителя 2 мировой войны) есть опции самолетных оппозитных двигателей 6 цил. повышенной мощности до 300 л.с,(есть намного дешевле это снегоходные (48 кг Yamaha RX 1000), мотоциклетные ("BMWConversion" 52 кг BMW R 1200) до 200 л.с. или автомобильные ("Viking" - "AirVee" 65 кг VW - Suzuki - Honda) 90 - 260 л.с., (230 кг V8 6 литров от Corvette) до 450 л.с. Tundra tires 26x12x6 "Airstreak" цена в США за пару $2200. Все двухместные, крейсерская скорость / Cruise speed 160 - 190 - 210 км/ч. Дальность полета / Range 700 - 1200 км. Перегонный полет до 1800 км. Высота полета 2500 - 4000 м (часто разрешенный эшелон рядом с промышленными городами до 1000 м). Вес пустого 250 - 400 кг. Скороподъемность 300 - 500 метров в минуту. Цена нового 130 000 - 185 000$. Этот тип ультра легких верхне планов серийно производятся с 1946, например Taylorcraft BC-12 40 х - 50 х годов и поэтому c большим остаточным ресурсом 2000 часов после капитального ребилда мотора может стоить в закупке около 20 000$!!! Заинтересованные получат полную информацию для приобретению, использованию, регистрации и обучению (50 часов - можно в Чехии, Франции, Германии,Польше,США "Advancsd Tailwheel Operations"), путешествиям по тел. 985-142 9556 Антон Валерьевич Чернов - ваш брокер этих производителей и любых использованных одномоторных монопланов в РФ.
    автоперевод:
    Back country strip aircraft w / Tundra Busch (Alaskan) wheels for LSA. Take-off take-off / Take off distance of 20 - 40 meters, at 70 km / h and run when landing / landing distance of 35 - 50 meters = this means it is easy to land on the beach or near a river, in a camping glade. There are conversions to the seaplane, folding wings for transportation on an auto trailer. The highly reliable Rotax 912 - 914 engine with 100/115 hp is often used. For fans with iron acceleration balls, like a supercar (like a World War 2 fighter), there are options for 6-cylinder boxer engines. increased power up to 300 hp, (there is much cheaper it is snowmobile (48 kg Yamaha RX 1000), motorcycle ("BMWConversion" 52 kg BMW R 1200) up to 200 hp or automobile ("Viking" - "AirVee" 65 kg VW - Suzuki - Honda) 90 - 260 hp, (230 kg V8 6 liters from Corvette) up to 450 hp Tundra tires 26x12x6 "Airstreak" price in the USA for a couple of $ 2200. All doubles, cruising speed / Cruise speed 160 - 190 - 210 km / h. Flight range / Range 700 - 1200 km. Distant flight up to 1800 km. Flight altitude 2500 - 4000 m (often allowed level near industrial cities up to 1000 m). Empty weight 250 - 400 kg The rate of climb is 300-500 meters per minute, the price of a new one is $ 130,000 - $ 185,000. the type of ultra light upper plans have been mass-produced since 1946, for example, the Taylorcraft BC-12 of the 40s - 50s and therefore with a large residual resource of 2000 hours after a major rebuild of the motor can cost about $ 20,000 in purchase !!! Interested parties will receive complete information for the purchase , use, registration and training (50 hours - available in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Poland, USA "Advancsd Tailwheel Operations"), travel by phone. 985-142 9556 Anton V. My brother and I fly a Cessna 170B with a Sportsman STOL kit and I'd take it over anything in this video, we can fly at 35-40 kts with half flaps all the livelong day.
    Now a purpose built bushplane like a Beaver or a Maule, that would be another story and way out of our price range, especially the former......

      Got my license in a 1942 interstate cadet. No flaps, stall at 36 mph. With a 65 horsepower continental motor and tundra tires it was the perfect stol plane.

      No way will it outperform any of the videos. That’s an ignorant statement.

      170 is NOT A HOME BUILT PLANE
      Also you have no concept of airspeed indicator inaccuracy at low airspeeds. study it and learn.

      Try loading three guys and their camping gear in any of the planes in the video.
