  • Hi everyone, welcome to a special VATSIM event called Cross The Pond! This is a huge event with hundreds of pilots flying on the VATSIM network across the Atlantic to the UK. I'll be working two positions today, and the second is Heathrow Intermediate Director North.
I'll try to chat as much as I can, but it is likely to be extremely busy! Please leave a comment, like the video and subscribe with the bell for more videos like this!

Fascinating watching an ATC professional doing this. The VATSIM controllers are brilliant too!

Clarky, this is exactly the sort of channel I’ve been looking for a long while! Awesome content. Please keep them coming.
Out of curiosity; is there any chance you could run us through your Euroscope set up please? I’m struggling with setting mine up and yours is a spot on display!
    Cheers! ☺️

Thank you! I'll keep the videos coming 😀 I'll see if I can work out how I set it up haha, but a good place to start is to ensure you've got the UK controller plugin downloaded and setup!

    Hello Tim,
Watching your video I'm curious as to the phraseology used at Heathrow, specifically when giving the landing runway.
Is it standard to give the landing runway when they are decending below the transition level as I couldn't find any specific phraseology refering to this in particular. If so is there a reason it is given in this format and not the standard CAP413 format? Dont mean this in a disrespectful way just very curious.
    Great video.

Yes so a range check is to be given to an aircraft firstly when they are initially given descent to an altitude, and then secondly as soon as possible after checking in on FIN's frequency. Part of the range check is to specify which runway they are going to as there are two possible runways potentially available. It's especially important for aircraft that are landing on the departure runway to confirm this, as it is not the runway that the ATIS is broadcasting is in use. You'd be surprised, but some aircraft still do try to fly an approach to the incorrect runway and need some gentle correction!

@@ClarkyAv Thank you for your anwser. Im wondering because in CAP413 it says "Vectoring for an ILS approach runway XX" Instead at Heathrow as you explained, only the runway and track miles are given when passing the TL, is this difference in phraseology something that is covered in the MATS part 2 , if so is it to reduce time spent on frequency or is it already implied to all pilots that it will be "Vectoring for an ILS approach" unless they are told differently? Thanks again.

He's said previously he is, I don't remember what for but I believe for rather Heathrow tower/ground or the Director that leads them in before tower.

@@scltxn8062 yeah I think he is Heathrow Director probably as that's what he mostly does on vatsim
