I remember this so clearly when it came out. It was SOOOOOOOOO different to anything that had come before it.... Reaction from people hearing it for the first time now, have NO IDEA what it was like hearing it back then.... PLUS, It's NOT DATED one iota..... Still an fantastic song.
The lead singer is Eric Burdon. Check out him singing Spill the Wine with War. 60s bands wore suits that matched. Eric Burdon is on the Top 100 best singers of all time.
Excellent choice of song to listen to. The best version of this song IMO. I love how the entire band is just jamming the hell out of this song from start to finish.
So many reactors seem puzzled by the song's true meaning, but you got it immediately. It's really not all that hard to understand. I figured it out the first time I heard it as a kid in the 1960s, Lol. Great reaction! 60s and 70s were truly the golden age of rock.
Auto tune didnt exist this was pure talent didnt have to put on a floor show you were thrilled by their talent alone. Miss this type of talented people
Eric Burdon is a world class vocalist. He did a bunch of great songs with The Animals, but some of his best work was when he was fronting the band War.
My Father was sent on his final journey to "We gotta get out of this place" by the Animals, a sad day but he would've laughed his head off. Class reaction fella 👌 👍 🤘
Actually, it was the Animal's bass player James " Chas " Chandler, who "discovered" Jimi Hendrix in NYC in 1966 and urged him to come to England to perform and record his first album. Chandler managed his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
As I see it, loving metal is exactly this, being able to recognize the importance of its history and being as excited with the oldies as with the new songs. If you love the house, you have to appreciate the foundations.
I like how YOU went from almost smirking to WOW faster than a Top Fuel Funny Car. Did you notice the part where you could hear every word over the band without a Mic in his face.
Eventhough im south east asian. Whenever i listens to this song, i picture myself riding a horse into the sunset in a cowboy clothing. Its an awesome song.
This northern sound is what created the Beatles, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, The Animals, The Yardbirds and so many more britpop bands, and Aussie and American Bands Inspired by them - and also influenced British and British hybrid bands like Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Cream, etc etc with their strong voices as instruments mixing traditions. Eric was truly amazing.
Early 60's, it was the style to wear matching clothes-haven't you heard of the British Invasion? A lot of people think having your pants hanging down to the crack of doom looks funny too. The clothes aren't important, the talent is. Eric Burdon had an amazing voice (I believe he was only 23 at this time) and the musicians were incredible. So many of the 60's and especially the 70's talent were singer/songwriters who wrote "story songs". Everyone could sing, write songs, most played at least one instrument. So much pure talent.
They are British,, they were a part of "the British Invasion" of the 60s along with the Beatles and others. This was back when tv had just gone color....it was called the color transition, the first full color tv season(all networks) that started in the fall of 1966(66-67 season) The bass player is Chas Chandler. He "discovered" Jimmy James in mid 1966-67 in a night club in Greenwich Village, NY. He convinced him to use his real name and The Jimi Hendrix Experience was born. He took him to England and the rest is Rock and Roll history....🤟😎
This film was n't made for TV it was made for cinema release and was a compilation of several different British Invasion bands. The quality is so good because it was on film, not video tape. It was made in 1964 and that was the year this reach no 1 in America.
This was recorded in 2 takes. And both takes were flawless. They did the first take to set the balance on the board, and the second was this recording. Amazing.
Thank you Alex. Eric Burdon (lead singer) is still touring. One of the best voices ever. I remember my dad playing this song all the time growing up. Every time I hear this brings back memories of the times spent with my dad. You have to check out other song by the animals.
I've always liked this song. It was already a classic when heard it on an oldies radio station. Funny thing is my neighbor heard the radio and said turn it up. Loved those times.
To add to a very fun little historical tidbit about this song is that this was actually considered a "heavy rock" song and The Animals where the bad boys of rock n' roll.
When I was a little kid I bought the single, "Sky Pilot". These guys were great, also "We got to get out of this Place" & "Don't let me be misunderstood" ..."It's my Life"..many great songs
I love the classy bow at the end! The Beatles did that. Tom Jones did that. It was a group or an artist saying 'thanks for listening, hope you liked'. Sometimes I feel like we'll never see anything classy ever again. Bummer.
The percentage of bands that are British is staggering, but even more so when you think of the number of groundbreaking groups who became huge that are British especially when you think its a country of nearly 68 million people and the influence its people have had on the world's listening habits, from The Beatles, to the Stones to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen.
I discovered this song a few months ago, and it gave me goosebumps. Man, his voice is just so good, and that key solo... speechless. I really need to check out more of their stuff. Great reaction Alex! 🖤
That guy in the back, playing the bass, was the late Chad Chandler. He later became a top notch producer and manager (he was Jimi Hendrix's manager )... meanwhile, Eric Burdon (the singer) is... a LEGEND!
To hear the singer talk in real life is so different, he has a Geordie accent (Newcastle in northern England) yet he sounds quite American when he sings
The bass player (Chas Chandler) behind the keyboard player literally made Jimi Hendrix...no...really! Chas saw him in a club in New York and his name was Jimmy James. He took him back to England, changed his name to Jimi Hendrix, and the rest is history.
The House of the Rising Sun name/song/tune is a lot older than the USA, it’s also a common pub name in the UK. It can be traced back to the 14th century, King Edward III and French heraldry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_of_the_Rising_Sun
Now you've got to hear the Five Finger Death Punch cover. Speaking of which, also check out Bad Company's "Bad Company" then go check out the Five Finger Death Punch cover of "Bad Company" as well.
Not really. The Beatles were simply following the same fashion that The Animals were following....in London, england the fashion known as Mod was all about suits and subverted versions of classic fashion.
Gotta do "To Love Somebody", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" all by The Animals. And "Spill the Wine" By Eric Burdon and WAR.
I second "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place." Bruce Springsteen isn't a hip-hop artist (though there is a hip-hop version of "Born In The USA"), but he once said that every song he's ever written can be traced back to The Animals' "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place." Hard to imagine two such great soul/blues singers as Burdon and Steve Winwood hitting the scene within months of each other.
Cracking song - the guys are British (Newcastle upon Tyne) and I love this version (and the end always reminds of the train he's talking about - coming into the station) - performing in my birth year - how cool is that? ^*^
Alex if you're reading this please do a reaction to a song called "115", it's a song from Call of Duty Zombies but it's very heavy and I think you'd like it
“That boy standing behind the keys” was the guy that brought Jimi Hendrix to England and made him famous
Bass player Chad chandler not the keys
@@rootintootinputin1153 Alex was talking about the bass player standing behind the keys when he said what the person above quoted
@@rootintootinputin1153 You must have misinterpreted what that person said
Alan Price.
Hendrix was so impressed by chas chandler the bassist he formed the experience the UK band members jimi also had USA band called the gypsies
Don't let me be misunderstood is another great song by them. Definitely check that song out.
And " We gotta get out of this place"
Love that one!!!! Great recommendation, Dorian!
@@rfrontany I'm both metalhead and hip-hop head.
That song makes me wanna shank a dude in the yard while he bench presses. If ya know ya know
I love your profile pic! One of my favorite albums. That and Iowa!
That boy standing behind the keys actually is the one who discovered Jimi Hendrix and later became his Manager.
Chaz Chandler
I met him after a show in Philly. He signed a box of Alexander the Grapes for me, lol.
@wayouttatune2 uh, no.
@wayouttatune2 that's so bad ass.
Are you sure Chas wasn't the bass player
This dude has the most unique voice in rock imo. So interesting
Lead Singer Eric Burdon is 83 now and still singing his butt off.
See...this is back when music truly involved talent.
Love this reaction, dudes like "what the hell?"
But as soon as the lead singer opens his mouth it's respect
I remember this so clearly when it came out. It was SOOOOOOOOO different to anything that had come before it.... Reaction from people hearing it for the first time now, have NO IDEA what it was like hearing it back then.... PLUS, It's NOT DATED one iota..... Still an fantastic song.
Eric Burdon's voice is haunting, but soooo good 😍
The lead singer is Eric Burdon. Check out him singing Spill the Wine with War.

Yep yep yep
Excellent choice of song to listen to. The best version of this song IMO.
I love how the entire band is just jamming the hell out of this song from start to finish.
I love this but still love the Sons of Anarchy and Five Finger Death Punch versions too
I like the Leo Moracchioli Metal cover version too. He goes HAM on this song. Frog Leap Studio's!!!
What about leadbellys version?
@@DevonThomas1204 That one is a strong old-school blues song. Far different sound than the Animals. Almost like 2 entirely different songs.

I can't overstate how much I love the keyboard sound and the keyboard solo in this song.
Check out Alan Price: (keyboards on this) track : you're telling me. organ solo is better than this.
this song is timeless. Sounds just as good today as it did in 64 and the lyrics hit just as hard
So much great music came out of the 69s! They don’t make music like this anymore! Keep rock8n’ it out! 🤘🏻💋

"It PULSES"
Perfect description. Been hearing this for over 40 years, thanks to my parents, and you nailed the feel.
Right on!!! This song is amazing. Just the whole feel to it. Today's auto tune garbage isn't even music
Eric Burdon was like 23 years old when they recorded this song, but he SOUNDS way older, like he's just got a blues soul inside.
Someone commented that he managed to look 14 and 46 at the same time throughout the song.
@@jadea.2694 I can see that 😂
He looks 12! I was 13 and living in London when this song was released. The sixties was where it was at in London. Great memories.
Literally one of the best songs ever made.
Eric Burdon is a world class vocalist. He did a bunch of great songs with The Animals, but some of his best work was when he was fronting the band War.
Oh shit, that's the same guy. Cool
It's true that Eric Burdon was great with War, but also true that War was just as great without Eric after he left the band
