It's not a design I personally like, and I can well believe they rushed it. But I appreciate that they made it the ''J'' which we may never get to see again, and if they do make a series set this far in the future they can probably re-design it based on the fact that they are unlikely to be beholden to a design from a series that messed so much with timelines.
I've got to admit, I never liked the Enterprise-J, but after seeing this, somehow now I absolutely love it. Do wish it had the registry NCC-1701-J though, but other than that, it looks great.
I dunno why, but I'm imagining that the J's bridge sits above a green park with trees. Like there's that yellow circle in the middle of the saucer that looks to be a giant window, so maybe there's an arboretum there or something. As far as the timeline of the show, I guess since these types of ships are intergalactic, and exploring beyond the milkyway and with such advanced tech, by the 29th century, all the inovaters are outdside our galaxy, and since there's no space left to explore, those left have gone to time travel, using lower, less resource heavy teck due to the demands of time travel itself. Like mYbe the 29th century humanswe've seen are less advanced than the rest of humanity, possibly due to their devotion to protecting the timeline.
love it its sleek an looks majestic , its as bout as long as one side of a borg cube , it would look nice an strong beside a cube an probably hold its own , atleast star fleet is still kickn inthe 26th century. nice vid man as always .
The scale of that ship in STO is way off. If you take the magazine's scale of the ship being at least around 2 miles long, then the one in STO in the battle of Procyon 5 is just barely a third of it's actual size. I did a size comparison side by side using my new Chronos Class Temporal Dreadnought by parking beside it and also coming up on top of it and the Chronos almost fills the length of the J saucer section - and it's FAR thicker than the J's flat pancake saucer. So yeah, the Enterprise J in STO is way off scale for being too short.
Great video! Thanks for yet again another fab review, blurriness and all ;-). I've always been enamored with the J. But then again, it's tough to not love an Enterprise.
So it's about 10,000 foot long, about 8,000 foot wide, the nacelles are about 4,500 foot long, and about 15 foot wide in the middle. So they are a reasonable width compared to a 24th century ship but super stretched. They would be super heavy and orbiting a planet must be heavily stressed with the planets gravitational pull on them.
lol, I feel the same- I look at it and go "wow, cool" but also a part of me says "Hmmm...not too sure about that". Can't put my finger on what it is that causes the mixed feelings, quite a bizarre ship
Happy New year Irish Trekkie, wow the Enterprise J is a Beautiful Ship I hope we see her again possibly in the new series Star Trek Discovery and I hear they will be filming in a few weeks.
Ah I'm jealous! I ordered mine through Big Bad Toy Store and won't get it until March. Glad you got yours and reviewed it so soon! Really looking forward to it. "The absurdity makes it a success." Fantastic, lol.
No problem! That is straight out of 70s New Wave SF, IMO. And no, I don't need the -J tossed on. Won't be an owner, even though I luuuuuuuuuuuv it. (I can see myself destroying those nacelles taking it out of the box.)
I feel that it is a good lineage up from the NX01. Even in the magazine, the sketch draws, the artist also had a reference sketch of the NX-01. That is the only reason I can see the deflector would be in the saucer section. Now I will say that if your going to fold space, you want the projector in front the ship, not under the saucer section. As far as the weak looking pylons, we need to think of the scale of the ship (estimated at 2 miles long). So with that in mind, the pylons are not that weak. What I want to see the warp drive that's the size of a walnut (TOS - Where the 3 mind wanted to help humanity and the leader took over Kirk's body. Kirk told Scotty the they could teach the Star Fleet how to make warp drive engines the size of walnut),
Have they stopped this Magazine cant find it in shops and Eaglemosses website has no subscription options, their shop seems to have a small selection of back orders only.
3:29 I think that you meant to say the Enterprise-F. 5:17 I was not aware that was canon. I personally would have the J to differentiate it and have it make more sense in terms of registry numbers. We know that the Relativity uses “-G” 300 years later. What do you think of its appearance in Star Trek: Online? 8:16 I would have preferred it if they had not done the saucer for the NX-01, but the studios are generally skittish on designs which differ from the norm. 17:00 I do like bbelt1’s version of the USS Enterprise-J which gives it a secondary deflector.
I've already preordered the Enterprise J. Can't wait to get her. I've heard they may be making ships from the Battle of 359. I hope that's true. I saw they have a New Orleans class starship also. Keep up the good work with your awesome channel!!!
Thank you for covering these models! This Enterprise J is not a favorite of mine. I wish they would release a new, improved 1701 Refit. Paint scheme on that is totally off IMHO.
Thanks for the review. From below this looks quite a lot like a stretched out Discovery. Similar design features with triangular body and cicular deflector
Hey, Irish Trekkie I guess you should compare this gorgeous model (I know, have my own) to NX class, not the TOS Constitution. Since NX is the real "first" ship. TOS Enterprise has completely different design.
Because Space doesn't have pressure. Thus, turning wouldn't bother it. MY concern, why such a large ship? What was point. Advanced engineering want to get smaller not larger. An example would be Enterprise(Next Generation) vs Voyager. Voyager was much smaller (By half) and much more powerful. And video says "folding Space" this is how we shall move form system to system in future as this is allowed by physics, though power source is issue to do it. Cowboy Bebop got around it by using gates.
I kinda like it, but the dish section (is it dish?) could be more dish-like, you know. It's far too stretched into the sides. Just making it an ordinary dish would be fine with me, like the Enterprises from 1701 to 1701 C. I mean it can be flat, no problem there, but too much stretched to the sides.
Thanks for your review Trekkie, I always check them out before i decide to buy or not buy the new issues. So what are the 'actual' measurements of this ship? 3000m wide or long or something.. so then how long are the pylons to the nacels?..and the nacels themselves!! Crazy dimensions ;)
TOS Enterprise: Two Spears, a Club and a Shield. Warship 1701-J Enterprise: Two Swords, a Shield and something in the middle trying too hard: Something cos-playing as a video game warship. I'm trying to come across as a realistic sword vs. a sword you might see in a video game or over the top anime or movie. Ya it looks cool but it's totally impractical and pure flash. The basic lines of the original 1701 just convey a utilitarian useful look. The 1701-J while pretty just is too flashy an out there for my taste. I do like the 1701-J better than some ships from other sci-fi franchise (Andromeda/Star Gate), it's an OK ship that I think is just trying really too hard. If the designer had an extra week to flesh this out I think it he could have really nailed it as I think he was on to something. Please don't get upset, this is just my opinion. No need to try to school me on basic star ship evolution, I'm old and have watched Star Trek since there was only the TOS I have seen the evolution of the ships with my own eyes, the J is pretty I just don't like it. Art is subjective and I feel the J is just trying to hard.
Hi irish trekkie ,I watch the last episode of season 6 deep space nine ,and I hope the star trek ship collection will do the cardassian orbital platform weapons array 😀
I like parts of the design. But that entire warp section has to be redesigned. I would have done one gigantic warp nacelle designed to look like it was two. And I do mean gigantic. Then I would believe that ship can traverse entire galaxies.
This should have been an XL or exclusive so it could be bigger. Personally I think this is a Fugly ship but I will get it because it was used on screen.
There are parts of design I like but it looks very fragile as a ship design. The windows on the model look like they are painted in glow in the dark paint.
Hi mate IrishTrekkie happy with the EnterpriseJ I am yes and you are spot on be very careful CAREFUL when taking this out off the plastic as it can brake easily folks 🖖🏻as Irish says the Nacelles are very delicate and thin 🖖🏻
I wasn't a big fan of the design and I was hoping that maybe seeing your video would change my mind, but in fact, call me old school, I started to dislike the design even more. The model is nicely molded and I can't believe they pulled off those pylons. But I really really dislike this design even with its boldness. Great review Irishtrekkie, thank you yet again!
True, it was bold and new like the TOS Enterprise was. I love the future take on a complex design, just wasn't my cup of tea. I do really like the Congo Class though
The J design must have come from a heavy collaboration with other alien species. I don't think human designers will come up with something like this on their own. Star Fleet design bureau is supposed to be rather conservative in their approach to ship design and must conform to tradition and human esthetics for the most part.
They need to do a sepperate run on just the NCC 1701 ENTERPRISE from 1701 all the way through B -J as a special issue. Sorry I'm not a big fan of the J.
I love the enterprise j its a sweet looking ship ,like your review a lot ,I think its the best one to come out ,will be picking up mine this week, looking forward getting the romulan ship from the next generation,I hope they will do the uss -titan one day ,I thought star trek enterprise was a good series ,shame it didn't go to season 5 ,I hope o ne day eaglemoss will do the star wars ships one day 😀
Kinda' mixed, really. Some of the design works, some of it doesn't. The scale is just unnecessarily ridiculous. Part of the design seems kinda' lazy, too. Like they just took the NX-01 and ran it through a taffy puller. While I was watching Enterprise, I got the sense the production crew would rather have been working on another TNG era show. hello again my Irish friend this is Emmett tell me how can I to subscribe or where to subscribe and how to subscribe that I too might collect these models of Star Trek spaceship Starship collection with the exception of the Enterprise Jay I mean I would take it but it looks like a new emblem for the uniform
+EMMETT ROWE You can request the issues through your local newsagents maybe or subscribe via the Eaglemoss Star trek the official Starships collection website
EMMETT ROWE I couldn't find a way to do it on the website but they did offer to set me up when I called the customer service number. Be persistent, their call handling system is rubbish.
idk why but i have always hated that ship, the scale of it is to unrealistic, i think the ships should stay within a kilometer in length. also it would take you forever to get from one side of the saucer to the other

And the window placement looks half ass. They should of gone with the other design they had. It look more finished.
as much as I hate to say it my Irish friend that Enterprise J does not look too good to me.. in fact it looks like a record album that was melted in the front it's pealed back.. and the power on in Origins look like sticks... I believe I could draw a better-looking ship than this one.. but then my Irish friend that's just me signed Emmitt USMC and happy New Year my friend
I can only say that I'm glad that Matt Jeffreys went with the Enterprise or Enterprises that we all know I like those a whole heck of a lot better then this one it just does not look right...
Nope. Looks like someone stretched out a picture of NX-01... I do not have anything against NX-01 she is one of my favorite ships, but this abomination is a failure. This ship does not deserve the name Enterprise.
Hate this design, the engines are a lousy design, they look like they wouldnt have enough driver coils to propel a ship of this size. VERY unsubstantial. The engine struts also very thin. If they had beefed up both engine & strut to match the size of the saucer module it would look more credible.
I love the design, it's so far fetched yet you can still see the federation design philosophy in it.
It's not a design I personally like, and I can well believe they rushed it. The Enterprise J is a more convincing "futuristic" Starfleet ship design than the USS Relativity.
First two ships I bought lol
I've got to admit, I never liked the Enterprise-J, but after seeing this, somehow now I absolutely love it. Do wish it had the registry NCC-1701-J though, but other than that, it looks great.

That may be but it still looked cool to me
Love this ship!!
Most definitely will be grabbing one ASAP. Glad you finally got one!
That blue dome at the back is the impulse drive on the enterprise-j, thank you for your review!
NO DOUBT ENTERPRISE -J#
DOES PAY GREAT
RESPECT TOO
THE CLASSIC
ENTERPRISE OF
CAPTAIN JAMES
T. KIRK!!!!! .......
OHHHHHHH YES!
Oh man I cannot wait to get this! Lets hope she gets one of the larger specials.
+Razorgeist would be nice in a larger scale
Great video! Thanks for yet again another fab review, blurriness and all ;-). I've always been enamored with the J. But then again, it's tough to not love an Enterprise.

+Alex "The absurdity makes it a success" is spot on
I never liked that ship design. It is a wonder that they were able to do a moddel at all with these siper thin pylons.
No problem! That is straight out of 70s New Wave SF, IMO. And no, I don't need the -J tossed on. Won't be an owner, even though I luuuuuuuuuuuv it. (I can see myself destroying those nacelles taking it out of the box.)
They were ALMOST moving towards having a delta over/through the oval saucer. Like a Starfleet logo.
Thats good news that uss titan has been confirmed ,thankyou irish trekkie ..😀
Thank you for amazing reviews IrishTrekkie. Can you perhaps do another top 10 (or top 15) of the all published ships by now?
Trekyards did an episode on the J. since I saw that I have liked it.
I feel that it is a good lineage up from the NX01. Even in the magazine, the sketch draws, the artist also had a reference sketch of the NX-01. If you sit it on top on a Borg cube of the same scale, it would stretch the 10,000 foot length and width of the cube.
Hi Folks, I hope you enjoy. Some of the magazine shots ended blurry but that ends when looking at the ship. Sorry about that. LLAP
Mr. Drexler is also on the Trekyard youtube channel sometimes.
Have they stopped this Magazine cant find it in shops and Eaglemosses website has no subscription options, their shop seems to have a small selection of back orders only.
for star trek online ref the kind of battle that was being showcased by Daniels onboard the big J was actually the battle of Procyon 5

I'd imagine if there's a shuttle hanger. The NX 01 might could fly in it. Meaning hanger bay might be very big.
Hi irish trekkie ,do you think star trek discovery series will be success or a failure ??
Thank you for covering these models! This Enterprise J is not a favorite of mine. I wish they would release a new, improved 1701 Refit. Paint scheme on that is totally off IMHO.

cheers! I just bought mine and i will get it sometime in March or April, and will try to figure out the calculations as well :)
TOS Enterprise: Two Spears, a Club and a Shield. Warship
1701-J Enterprise: Two Swords, a Shield and something in the middle trying too hard: Something cos-playing as a video game warship.

It's a boat anchor with a record slid halfway through it's shank.
Not a huge fan of the ship but the model really looks great.
This ship always seems to remind me of a weapon from *Men In Black*...
Awesome review, what a great ship can't wait to get this vessel.
Will they ever do a movie accurate version of the Enterprise-A? (both timelines)
+Sulphurous maybe when the do the XL size
They make models in multiple sizes?
Irish trekkie, Good video and glad to see the enterprise -J Do you know if they will be bringing out the Scimitar or Narada? Thanks
+Daniel Harvey I believe they are working on them but there have been issue sourcing model files
IrishTrekkie thank you
Hi irish trekkie ,I watch the last episode of season 6 deep space nine ,and I hope the star trek ship collection will do the cardassian orbital platform weapons array 😀
+Richard Joganah that would be cool
Chekov and Scotty are on the Ent J for a time.
How do I get the original NCC-1701?
you need to adjust your lighting for the magazine, unless your trying to copy JJ with all the lens flare lol :)
+Lagg Buster haha
I reckon this ship would have been better served as an XL special or something.
They should bring an Enterprise F.Odyssey class is awesome.
+Scottish Trekkie 👍
What about the Enterprise H and I?
I wasn't a big fan of the design and I was hoping that maybe seeing your video would change my mind, but in fact, call me old school, I started to dislike the design even more. The model is nicely molded and I can't believe they pulled off those pylons. But I really really dislike this design even with its boldness. Great review Irishtrekkie, thank you yet again!
+Colin Bridger Thanks C but as mentioned by another commenter the absurdity makes it a success
True, it was bold and new like the TOS Enterprise was. I love the future take on a complex design, just wasn't my cup of tea. I do really like the Congo Class though
Cant wait to get this one, looks fragile as hell though lol.
The J design must have come from a heavy collaboration with other alien species. I don't think human designers will come up with something like this on their own. "It's a fake!!!" Love it. Senator Vreenak?
FINALLY!
it resemble of a hammerhead shark, but i don't think it would last a fight.
If they're this advanced at J, imagine what an Enterprise-Z would look like?
The Last Enterprise, NCC-1701-Z.
The 1701 - Q was run by the Q them selves.
Looks like, if you rip your pants, you could use one or the nassels to sow up your pants!
They skipped 3 letters what's the g h and I look like
one of my best design ships
It always bugged me that this ship kinda looks like the NX-01
I love the enterprise j its a sweet looking ship ,like your review a lot ,I think its the best one to come out ,will be picking up mine this week, looking forward getting the romulan ship from the next generation,I hope they will do the uss -titan one day ,I thought star trek enterprise was a good series ,shame it didn't go to season 5 ,I hope o ne day eaglemoss will do the star wars ships one day 😀
+Richard Joganah Titan is confirmed
Richard Joganah deAgostini has the Star Wars license but it would be great to see Eaglemoss do the star wars ships
Please say " Captain , I'm giving her all she has got ! " just once. You have the engineering accent !
Seeing this ship's design cemented that notion for me. Honestly, if that's what they really wanted to do, they should have just done that instead of half-arsed a prequel series.
Looks more like something the Xindi would have foisted on us. I hate it thoroughly.
I love it actually
There's not enough room for the registration number
Woohoo!! finally!
hello again my Irish friend this is Emmett tell me how can I to subscribe or where to subscribe and how to subscribe that I too might collect these models of Star Trek spaceship Starship collection with the exception of the Enterprise Jay I mean I would take it but it looks like a new emblem for the uniform

Okay my friend thank you so much this is Emmett
to each their own but I despise that model. It is so damn ugly, lol.
To be honest, I wouldn't mind if they drop the nato alphabet for the Enterprise. If it stops after say...F then that's good enough for me.
+Michael MacLeod no A-Z :)
This is one of those you want to keep in the box, those pylons look delicate
idk why but i have always hated that ship, the scale of it is to unrealistic, i think the ships should stay within a kilometer in length.
also it would take you forever to get from one side of the saucer to the other
Not if you use intraship transporters to move around!
IMO it wouldn't make economic or tactical sense to build a ship so large.
I never liked this class of ship. It all look half done. The warp engines are my biggest complaint. The look like the CGI crew just stop working on them because they know you wouldn't see them much.
+EMMETT ROWE Fair point Emmett
I can only say that I'm glad that Matt Jeffreys went with the Enterprise or Enterprises that we all know I like those a whole heck of a lot better then this one it just does not look right...
The Mental Misadventures of the Enterprise-J
+Razorgeist haha
It always struck me as having a V'ger-esque influence...
Nope. Looks like someone stretched out a picture of NX-01... I do not have anything against NX-01 she is one of my favorite ships, but this abomination is a failure. This ship does not deserve the name Enterprise.
enterprise J is much bigger than all the enterprises.
Everything about it screams 'lazy'
Hate this design, the engines are a lousy design, they look like they wouldnt have enough driver coils to propel a ship of this size. VERY unsubstantial. The engine struts also very thin. If they had beefed up both engine & strut to match the size of the saucer module it would look more credible.
Seriously fugly ship, always thought that.
Стрёмный дизайн.
worse ship to bear the name reading book seems even worse it is its own worst enime seen it with 31st century ships
That is to say , non American , Irish/Scottish sounding.
No bloody A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, or I ! ;)
I've gotta say... I hate it.
D lad it's bloody terrible.
Worst ship ever
Even uglier than the Discovery.
If a starship is ugly then it is the enterprise F from star trek online.
Ugliest design of any ship on any show!
Awful ship. Just... awful.
