Hello my friends! I really hope you enjoy watching this video of one of the most beautiful places on the planet! It’s a long day out, but what’s better than peddling a bike all day? Have any of you done the White Rim? Or visited Moab?
@bob ragsdale We broke up :( We shared a lot of life beautiful experiences together in 12 months, but it was not meant for the long haul. So to answer your question, you won't be seeing her in upcoming videos.
Ryan. Amazing ride and video. Congratulations. In hindsight what would you change about your tires/ supplies/ gear/ etc to make this as lightweight a ride as possible?
So crazy how you ride under this blue sky and sunny day and don´t get soakead by sweat. at 15 celsius! Here in Brazil you'd be melting... keep sending all this great stuff!
I'm an independent trucker and in 2005 I got a load to Alaska and saw a fatbike/snowbike in a cycle store and bought it. I rode it a few days later all over the sand dunes in winnemucca, NV and then spent 2 weeks in Moab. It was so amazing floating effortlessly on the sand and riding slickrock and the jeep trails. I go there several times every year since. Moab rocks!
@@duzer - Wow! That's the first time anyone replied to my comment. You're awesome. Love your adventures and your videos are very well done. Living in the Seattle area I ride the road bike a lot. I can’t wait to do that trail. We love Moab!!! Funny I’ve never ridden a bike there, my wife loves to hike there. She’s not the biggest hiker but when we go to the red rocks she’s like a mountain goat lol! Maybe this year I’ll get some riding in there. 100 milers are just such an amazing time on dirt. Feels like such an incredible achievement. As others say it Ryan, you have an incredible energy about you. Wish I could carry that with me more, so hard to be super positive all the time. On the other hand I guess it should be so easy to look at everything in such a positive way. Considering how blessed we really are. Gotta get that change in paradigm more often. We did the same thing. 18 hr. Was a big event in my life. Dark from the Hogsback on. Thanks for taking me back. Nice piece of work. I remember everything you showed me. Must be burned in.
Great video! Beautiful trail. We did part of it in 1992 as part of a 1 month bike tour in the SW. It was my first time in the area and I fell in love with the scenery and atmosphere in the desert, especially in evenings and at night. I’ve gone back several times for biking and hiking although I’ve not done White Rim again. I think we did the section by where you had lunch but can’t accurately remember now.
I ride that trail in the 80s with a camp midsummer. So hot we got up before dawn, rode til too hot, siesta, then ride past dark. Camp got ticketed because we slept where we could, didn't know there were sites. Camp's first bike trip with no support vehicle, just a bunch us kids with panniers. That place is awesome. I have visited Moab and Castle Valley at family. Never ridden the trails though. I road long distance in the 1980-1992 time frame. On a 2 days off at the bike shop I rode Mesa AZ to Camp Verde on day one. I wandered around on day two towards Cottonwood, Cherry, Dewey-Humboldt and headed back to the Valley of the Sun with a detour south of Cordes Junction that I had noticed "Bloody Basin Road". I had studied the maps and knew it would be rough but I assumed it was do-able in 6 or 7 hours. I started the mapped out course and road hard from 1 to 6 and flatted at the only mileage marker I saw and it was half way. I was short of food and water and knew I was a long way from home. Nice Job. You made it extra challenging by the video and having to ride back on shots but I love the video for the detailed experience. I cannot get enough of the White Rim. Congrats on you and Matt. I have done the white Rim 5 times, two of which have been in a day and look forward to doing both multi-day and single day jaunts again. They are both special in their own way.
@@duzer No kidding. The new online system is odd. You always have to burn a stupid extra day to get the lineup you want or have a crew ready at a moment notice for a cancel. I poo-pooed the old mail in system but miss it grandly. Seems they need a lottery system but that can be gamed as well. What bugs me is when I have done it in a day, it is clear that there are many sites where people didn't show. ...Once again, great job on the video and thanks for taking me to my other home.
Should we (girlfriend and I) stash water somewhere along the way a day or so before we take the plunge down Shafer Trail, or can we lug enough water for the duration of our trip? I read somewhere that self supported bikepackers usually stash water somewhere - but where to I am a bit unsure.
Love this video! It gave me so much information about the road as I was prepping to run the White Rim in a Day! Moab is such a beautiful plan as is this road! Cant wait to get back sometime and slow down to really take it all in!
Great video Ryan. I’ve been making regular trips to Moab to mountain bike from BC since 1992. Always planned on riding around the WRT in a day on a bike. Then I got a dual sport moto and did it. It’s a long day on a dirt bike. It would be cool to bang it off in a day on a bicycle I’d better get training. Leaving for Utah in a couple of days. : ]

@@duzer Sorry to hear you and Ali are not together. Einstein discovered that when light impacts certain substances in the universe, electrons can be released. This phenomenon in physics is called the photoelectric effect. Those electrons can potentially join immediately with other atoms once they are free, or can dissipate and linger. But for a moment, when the light was shining, a spark of energy was created in the universe...for a moment, electricity was borne from the meeting. The Sun's warm light will never stop shining on your lives and new energy will be generated. Best wishes to you both!

Awesome video! ...... Great editing! I had the pleasure of mountain biking the White Rim Trail with 4 friends in April 2006 when I was 52.
Awesome! Planning to do this ride next March, but will take a few days to suck in the scenery! Thanks for the video!
Taking a few days is the way to do it!
Should we (girlfriend and I) stash water somewhere along the way a day or so before we take the plunge down Shafer Trail, or can we lug enough water for the duration of our trip? I read somewhere that self supported bikepackers usually stash water somewhere - but where to I am a bit unsure.
Awesome video Ryan! Driving out from Boulder to do WRIAD on Friday. 1st Time. Great to get a 'ride through' pre-tour to get the stoke going!
Sweet! Enjoy
Absolutely Brilliant!
Love this video! It gave me so much information about the road as I was prepping to run the White Rim in a Day! Moab is such a beautiful plan as is this road! Cant wait to get back sometime and slow down to really take it all in!
Glad you enjoyed it! Have a great time on the White Rim
Best way to celebrate birthday, well done.
I agree!!
B Murray I bet it’s so fun on a dirt bike! Have fun in Utah!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous! Salivating! MORE DRONE FOOTAGE of the dessert, please!
pamela dobrowolski I wish I could have gotten more drone footage, but it’s not allowed Inside the National Park
@@duzer What kind of dessert did you bring Ryan? Terra Misu? Rocky Road ice cream? :) No drones in National Parks and if you are thinking of camping on the White Rim, you will need to get a permit well in advance. Great video Ryan!
@@daveconnery3384 No desert actually, should have packed a pint of ice cream, ha!
Ryan. Long time follower of the Love Cycle Tour, Baja Divide, and many others. Curious? Glad to see you kept the Trek 1120!!! Did you get a new seat, yet? I remember you had issues on the Baja Divide. Hope Ali is good and you guys are still a "thang"!!! She is a keeper!!! Best of luck, always, brother! What a ride. Have to put that on my list.
Hello my friend! Thanks for following for so many years. YES! I did put a new seat on the 1120, feels soooo much better. And as for Ali, we broke up. It was very sad, but we had to go our own ways
Best wishes to you both!
wow! I love this. Thanks so much for sharing. Here's a a new energy being created!
Wow. Beautiful area. What a great ride. Congrats on his 50th. Turn 60 in May. Planning my second tour of Vermont this summer if all go's well. Take care and keep putting out these great videos, Al
Happy early birthday!!
I would love to ride that trail ! You're lucky, Ryan
It’s a special place
I have this on this falls agenda, hopefully “world events” are sorted out by then. I’ll need to lock down a campsite for at least one night though! Great vid! Love me some Moab!
Hope you make it happen someday, it’s so beautiful
My brother, his son and I are planning a day long mountain bike ride this fall and I tried to get them to do this one but it was a no go. But I finally got my brother on a bike after 25 years of trying! So one step at a time. I will make it there to ride that trail someday though.
I hope that you do! It’s incredible
Well done guys, awesome video with fantastic views
Awesome creation, God!!
Awesome video! ...... Great editing! I had the pleasure of mountain biking the White Rim Trail with 4 friends in April 2006 when I was 52. We went at a much more leisurely pace than your ride and spent 6 days in the Canyon. One of those days was spent hiking to Upheaval Dome. That trip was one of the best experiences of my life!
I'd love to hike to Upheaval Dome someday! There's also some slot canyons down there I wanna explore
You just suck me right into your world no matter what I am doing or the mood I am in. Amazing cinematography, amazing, production, amazing subject material. You have got it figured out.
Thanks Jon! Appreciate it
I did that in a day when I was 35, Now i'm 53 (opposite of 35). Thought that was good enough but your video was so freakin good I need to do it again. Training day 1 starts tomorrow! great job!
