Thank God I’m not the only one. My wife thinks I’m so boring because I’ve been watching these non stop since I found this Channel. This has taught me so much and now I am a little more educated on what to look for when I’m breaking down and cleaning my AR’s. THANKS SOTAR!!!
The more I watch these videos. The more it becomes apparent that quality and brand name isn't the issue. It's about maintaining your firearm properly and making sure you inspect every millimeter of it. Knowing what can go wrong and what to do to fix "defects" is ultimately your personal responsibility. I sir, appreciate everything you teach us. The information is priceless. Thank you.
Im not a fan of long videos but your videos are so informative and there is no bullshit talk all the way through ill watch these all the way through no problem.
In a different video you mentioned something about not being a fan of scraping when cleaning. I was in the Army, and just a dumb grunt, so I'd used the machine gun scraper tools on my issued M16 and M4 plenty of times. It would be nice to see a video on how to properly clean using the basic cleaning kit.
No kidding. The army was stupid about weapons cleaning. That whole white glove inspection of duty rifles ruined a lot of guns. Bolt tails shouldn't be silver
Borescope is the only way to go to install as gasblock. Highly encourage anyone to buy one. I bought the teslong, and while the adjustment sucks; it's the way to go.
Great video. I’ve never heard that the extractor should feel like puppy teeth. I’ll have to check that out. After doing some research for replacement parts I ended up getting a whole new bcg. Not sure why I ended up getting one made out of Formula one 🏎 transmission steel but I did..( jp )
Brother you make the most informative videos I got the 3 bore setup off a website that had posted it but really needing your red silver and green gauge sizes you you for checking the bcg can you provide where you have posted this or the sizes please sir trying to get some tools and gauges before taking your class.. and your boat rail go no gauge would be amazing to know what you use or where to buy them
@School of the American Rifle Do you have a lower that you would recommend? Which one, in your experience, seems to produce lowers closest to milspec, so that components are less likely to have compatibility issues? Or is that a unicorn that doesn't exist?
I bought a BCM extractor spring upgrade kit (several actually). Do I need to use the donut,as well, and if not, why??? Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Use either the insert OR the donut but not both. If you use both it can create too much extractor tension and cause ejection issues. Either one is all you need
Follow up question rearming your Hawkeye borescope. Per Gradient Lens, they offer two video systems- their “high end” Sony ($3,000+) and their less expensive system, which I don’t recall what it was called. Which of the two video systems do you use or recommend? Also, have you done a video on gas block alignment?
The camera adapter I have was a gift from a locksmith friend. It's actually made for a telescope. It's likely Chinese, but I couldn't say where it's from for certain, or who makes it. I do plan on buying a Hawkeye Camera Adaptor, bit just don't have the funds for it currently.
Watching all the inspections on high-end to the lower end BCG's, only 100% way of knowing that you have an in spec BCG is by if not all of the tools but enough of them in determining close to 100% BCG or cough up the cash and send it to you to do an overhaul.
I've bought one chromo bolt from Brownell, and I have to say I am not empress. There where bures, scratch on the bolt. If I was going to put it in my upper it will cut into my up. It was just bad. I am buying from BCM, badger ordance or LMT.
I recently bought a nitrided BCG from them and the bolt is exactly the same as the one from my Radian enhanced BCG (carrier is an enhanced design, bolt is regular) Machining is excellent on mine
For some gauges he does, but for the ones he only uses a field gauge it's because the field is the ultimate outer spec and if that goes in it's a problem, and if not and the go goes in it's not a problem, so there doesn't need to be a third gauge as it isn't necessary
I have one and it failed around 4-5k rounds. The gas key screws stretched and gas leaked making it a single shot. I ran into a shooter at a 2 gun match running the same bolt. He said he had 3 fail. He just sends them back and they send him a new one. I could not send it back since I bought mine thru a gunshop.
Not sure but I recently bought their nitrided one and i found the Bolt is exactly the same as the Radian Bolt (radian uses an enhanced bolt carrier design) but whoever makes the bolt also makes them for Radian so they are definitely good quality. I cant say if this is the same exact bolt in the video but the nitrided one is
Have you ever inspected a lightweight brownells BCG? I have two. Both are different design wise and one does not run in my gun. Also has cracks on the carrier key. Thanks!
The Sionics BCG is pretty much the same as the Forward Controls Design BCG. FCD takes their BCG and adds the dimples/serrations, and a few other things. My recent Sionics BCG came with the OCKS screws on the gas key as well, so that is an update to my knowledge.
I’m so addicted to watching these BCG breakdowns.

Brownells puts out consistently solid products.

Love your vids. As someone that's been an aerospace and medical machinist for years, I can appreciate your knowledge, thoroughness, and skillset.
I have found useful information on building an inspection with other videos, but never at this concentration. Thank you very much.
Just exceptional! Thank you.
“That one might be gone forever” He said after the Colt Extractor Spring went flying 😂
Thank I just bought a Brownells BCG and was wondering about the staking and bolt.
Outstanding as always. Thank you.

Master class, every video. Keep it up!
I just ordered a .308 from them. Thanks for this!
Awesome videos man it’s amazing what I’ve learned watching these! Thank you!
To err is human.
I just try not to be too human.
Your honesty and integrity is admirable.
great video again! now I am even happier with my Hawkeye bore scope.
Borescope is the only way to go to install as gasblock. Highly encourage anyone to buy one. I bought the teslong, and while the adjustment sucks; it's the way to go.
Hey Chad can you do one on adjustable gas blocks and how to adjust them. Enjoy the videos!
I have a plan for that. Soon.
@@SchooloftheAmericanRifle yes! Thanks for the response ! Can't wait
@13:24 I had a CMC enhanced bcg that was causing my buffer to make contact with the buffer retaining pin. The BCG was too short.

You're right about that!
@School of the American Rifle Do you have a lower that you would recommend? Which one, in your experience, seems to produce lowers closest to milspec, so that components are less likely to have compatibility issues? Or is that a unicorn that doesn't exist?
Purely addicted to these Physical / Autopsy videos, also shocking to see the results on some!
I bought a BCM extractor spring upgrade kit (several actually). Do I need to use the donut,as well, and if not, why??? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

About Commercial Gas Blocks:
Chad, have you encountered any gas blocks that do not take into account the .035" handguard cap thickness?
Some do and some don't account for the handguard cap. Unfortunately I have not tracked that info so I couldn't advise.
Did you ever find the Colt spring?
I did. Right after we stopped video.
Hawk eye is great. I use them for locksmithing.
Why is the ejector test always done off camera?
Some things are reserved for students.

How did you find these gauges? I’d love to purchase some for my own! Especially the bcg gauges
Have you ever taken a look at the BRN-180s? What do you think of them in comparison to traditional DI ARs?
I only work on D.I. AR's now, so I really can't say.
As a machinist, I cringed a little bit when he zeroed the micrometer.

Jon Meray, please explain your pointless opinion, so that we will both know, share it.
@@rudolphferdinand3634His point was that you need all the gauges or you send your gear to get inspected to be 100% sure it's up to spec.
So is there a simple way you have found to determine if a barrel and chamber is chrome lined or not?
It will be chrome

Do you have a link for the Amazon bore scope?
can't say much, but I think this company: Teslong
Yes! Another video!
You might have received this question before, but why do you only use the field gauge and not a no-go?
For some gauges he does, but for the ones he only uses a field gauge it's because the field is the ultimate outer spec and if that goes in it's a problem, and if not and the go goes in it's not a problem, so there doesn't need to be a third gauge as it isn't necessary
The Hawkeye looks more like a medical endoscope.
Any chance you’d consider doing one of brownells lightweight BCGs?
I have one and it failed around 4-5k rounds. The gas key screws stretched and gas leaked making it a single shot. I ran into a shooter at a 2 gun match running the same bolt. He said he had 3 fail. Probably microbest if I had to guess

I must have had some evil puppies. All mine had sharp pin like teeth.
“That one might be gone forever.” That has happened wayyyyy to many times with me!
Is your Sionics BCG break down available on your UA-cam? Haven’t been able to find it.
I'd like to see more Sionics physicals. Barrels and bcg's. I have 2 Sionics mc barrels and they've been some of the best I've owned honestly.
The Sionics BCG is pretty much the same as the Forward Controls Design BCG. FCD takes their BCG and adds the dimples/serrations, and a few other things. My recent Sionics BCG came with the OCKS screws on the gas key as well, so that is an update to my knowledge.
the back hole eats another spring...
Are the misaligned carrier keys from a particular manufacturer or company or are they from several different ones?
From just about all manufacturers. That why I check for it.

Teslong is good stuff for the $$$
Just got to work, guess I’ll be late this morning.
Damn shame lol.
My BCG and firing pin are all magnetized because my dumb @$$ used a magnetic tray when cleaning them.
Did I ruin it? Can it be fixed?
(shame)
