After 30 years in the cosmetic industry- putting cool (pink undertone) foundation on warm (yellow-undertone) skin causes the foundation to look orange upon application. You must match the natural undertone (warm/cool/neutral) of your skin. Make-up perfects the skin, it cannot “change” your skin’s undertone. Thanks for explaining the color matching confusion of this brand and Mac.
Barbara Tateosian, you are absolutely on target with your comments! I remember when I was young, the ladies behind the make-up counter wanted to put me in a cool (pink undertone) foundation and I have a neutral undertone. Even back then, I knew something was not right with that.
It actually was 45 years ago (1977)when I first was a Trainer with Clinique. I have blond hair/ blue eyes and “fit” their original market. Their foundations were ALL cool/pink under-toned. Fast forward, 1979 and Prescriptives cosmetics came onto the market and they were the FIRST to “Colorprint”- and even I found out I was a “yellow-orange”…warm! No wonder why I had a noticeable line of demarcation at my neck. Hair color does NOT determine skin undertone. Most red-heads have cool/pink skin, not warm/yellow. Risa is a wonderful resource for us all. Love her channel💋
Barbara, I remember Prescriptives in the ‘80’s in SoCal. Ha Depending on the make up artist they had me in all four colors. Lol. But I ended up looking the best in blue red. Lisa is a total radiant star.
I'm a light neutral olive they try to stick me in golden colors my hair is a medium reddish brown, I always turned orange and you can see the orange line of demarcation. Mac NC20 and Estee Lauder Double wear is 2N1 Desert Beige are the colors been put in. I think 2N1 looks pretty close.
OMG!! I was in NYC this weekend and forgot to pack my concealer. 🤦🏻♀️ While walking, I saw Sephora. I wanted to try the Hourglass foundation but the reps told me that I had to try this one! She did one side with the Hourglass and the other side with Haus. I was blown away!! Needless to say I walked out of the store with 175 Light Neutral (apparently I am using the wrong color with my current foundation). As I was walking out I immediately thought of you and Lisa J and wondered when y’all would be reviewing this foundation. I wanted to “justify” my purchase and I am so glad you posted this today! ❤️ ya Risa!
@@lizam3008 Yes. I don’t think it was so much the formula as the shade. They couldn’t find one “just right” in the Hourglass but Haus nailed it! I’ve been using it for a few days now and it’s an amazing foundation! Looks natural and lasts all day!
I went into Sephora today & got color matched. I so far absolutely love it. Very skin like natural looking. I’m super impressed with how it especially looks on my nose area, no clinging into pores. I like that it’s not matte looking.I have combination skin. I also live in Florida & love that it doesn’t melt off lol. Beautiful foundation. I love that it’s vegan too. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💖😊
@@amytempleton903It honestly really doesn’t need powder over it. I guess if you have oily skin you could use just a little to set it more or just use a setting spray. I honestly don’t powder over it & it stays beautifully. I might put a tiny bit of loose translucent powder on a mini brush & tap it in a couple small areas but never all over. Any high end translucent loose powder will work. I have a few samples from Sephora I use that have lasted me almost a year now lol. Laura Mercier, Huda Beauty & Fenty Pro Filter Setting powder. Any will work. 🙂
I agree I loved it so much I bought a summer and winter shade. I have 50 or 60 foundations and this just stands out from the rest. There is just something about it.
I actually think that the Haus Labs color wheel makes a lot of sense and that all makeup companies should follow this guide. Red tones are absolutely warmer than yellow tones. The further down the rainbow, the cooler the colors get (red to orange to yellow to green to blue and then purple). I think makeup companies have had it backwards this whole time.
This is MAC’s reasoning as well. I worked for them for years and in their view yellow foundations were cool on the artists color wheel and pink were warm.
absolutely like what color is more warmer than red pinks and oranges? the color of heat from blood and hell fire? infrared vision also follows this system to indicate temperature, yellows and olives are absoluetely more cool.
Just wanna say, the color you are wearing in this video really looks stunning on you! Your eye makeup, lipstick, and your top, all really bring out your radiance
I found out that Warmer foundations suit my cool undertone skin, completely by mistake! I felt wild telling experts I needed a much warmer foundation when they attempted to make me pinker. Now seeing Haus wheel it makes so much sense. I’m still not trusting the 175 match I was given in match survey. Now watching a million videos to try and see who could match my tone.
The best part of a RDM video is your enthusiasm, Risa! I also appreciate the explanation of color/undertone. I will be prepared when I make my purchase (in store). It's turning to fall here in New England, cool, humid and rainy. One of my favorite times of year. Stay safe and well.
I luv this foundation. I'm blown away of little u need to cover ur face. I have dark spots and it covered beautifully. It didn't cover fully so I added a tiny bit more and the end result was flawless. Very skeptical at first but now best foundation I have ever bought.
I need to try this foundation! I have heard that this time around the products are much better and people are truly liking the foundations and other products. Thanks for the info, now I will be adding another foundation to my arsenal.
I took the test and looked at the models. I would have never picked 250 light medium with peach undertone. Im olive toned and have a little rosacia . They saidthe peach will cancel a y redness, perfect match.
This one sounds great. I am currently test driving your other faves. My main problem is getting foundation to look okay on the sides of my nose. I don't have really big pores, but it always looks spotted. I so appreciate your reviews because you have all over oily skin. Could you do an application tips video for oily mature skin? I read the Sephora reviews and see the one star ⭐️ complained about how bad it performed on dry/mature skin. Those with skin on the oily side loved it.
Thank you so much for going into detail about the color wheel for this foundation! I have been looking at this foundation for days and cannot find a shade that I think is my shade. After your explanation I feel like I can! Love your videos and this was extremely helpful!!
Thank you so much Risa for sharing the good news. I am always happy to learn about new products especially when they are so exciting. Thanks again and I intend to check it out.💐
Thanks so much for explaining the color wheel so plainly I normally order my foundation in fair with nuetral undertones so about a month ago ( without knowing about the color wheel) I ordered 145 light nuetral and was so upset at how very dark it is So thanks so much for this video I have a rosy undertone so now I feel more confident in choosing a shade online
Hi Risa I just bought this foundation after watching this video. OMG it is actually mind blowing. My new holy grail foundation. It is so good with powder finish, which I always do Thank you!
I just adore your ability to explain some quite professional things to the people who are not in a beauty industry. You make things so clear and easy to understand for everyone. Great video from you as always Risa 🤍🤍🤍
What do you use to style your hair? I have a Dyson and my hair is your length but I’m struggling. Can you do a full hair video? Your hair is gorgeous! 😍❤
So happy for the great review but I'm really worried about the shade I chose online...210. 🤷🏼♀️ It was difficult. It should be here tomorrow, so we shall see!
i watched also the 2nd video. and after watching both of Risa's videos about the HausLabs foundation. I decided to go to Sephora and try it out myself from the tester. I picked out 220.. which to me.. was a good color match. I used my fingers of course. I loved it. it smoothed out so beautifully (again using my fingers) cuz i was on my way to work as i work on the same lot as Sephora (if that makes sense). and then i asked a friend.. I love watching risa, i love watching people around my age. cuz it makes sense to me.
Cancel color theory! Ooooohbmy god. While I live for this ….. it messes with so many peoples head. But it showed me the olive complexion and it’s importance . Ohhh the mind melt of this concept. It’s not color matching - it’s color correcting !
Actually if you think about it pink is a light red, and red is the warmest color. Blue is the coolest, and olive tends to have some cool blue in it. So pink undertones are warm and olive undertones are cool. At least that is what color theory teaches us.
I looooovvvvveeeee this one Risa…I have the same skin type as yours and same concerns such as yours too(pores)….I got so many compliments on my makeup in the past couple of days since I have been using it….❣️it is a glorious foundation truly…..I have used ALL fragrance free foundations released at Sephora by every single brand over the last 8 years…and I have to tell you this foundation IS THE BEST FOUNDATION I HAVE EVER TRIED.
My Dear Lisa thanks 🙏🏻 for this excellent 👌🏻 review. Is it still the one ☝️ foundation that you would recommend for oily mature skins like yours and certainly mine?
I absolutely hate the way they did the undertones! My local Sephora doesn’t have it in store yet, so I’m not buying it unless it shows up there because I definitely need to swatch this foundation. Neutralized? Hmmm… For such an inclusive brand, it’s kind of odd that they want everybody’s skin neutralized. I’d like to keep the cool undertone on my face since that is the color of the rest of my body.
@@cararichman1729 semantics. It still means that the word neutral is in absolutely every shade name. So…. trying to neutralize everyone’s skin tone? I am, however, happy to report that they actually just got stocked in my Sephora today. I’ll be going there sometime this week to try and shade match (keeping me cool toned 🥶) because every person I’ve seen on UA-cam has loved it!!
I definitely want to try this on your recommendation, since the foundations you rave about ALWAYS work on me. I didn’t want to go into Sephora though, I was hoping to order online, but the choice of undertone seems tricky with this one… If what usually works for me is fair with pink undertones, what would you recommend?
I went on line and HL recommended the dame shade. What shade are you in MAC studio fix. It might help me choose the right shade on line as my last attempt was way off. Thanks ❤
I ran to Sephora today to get color matched ! I tried the color I picked 110 and the one you have 160 and the salesgirl matched me to 160 ! I could bathe in it lol - wow it’s unbelievable . What powder do you use under your eyes over concealer ? Thank you for this review xo. P.S . The worst sunburn I ever got as a teen was at lake Havasu !!
Lol you are my go to Risa! I paused your video half way and went to the Sephora website and bought this foundation lol I pretty much buy everything you recommend, if only you made commission on my purchases lol love ya!!!
Hi Lesley! I hope you love the foundation as much as I do! I actually can make a slight commission if you use the links provided in the description box. It’s small, but every purchase adds up and helps to keep my channel going, as I’m not on many PR lists so I buy 95% of what I talk about in my videos myself.
Good evening Risa it looks like a very good foundation I watch Steff review it the other day & she also said it was amazing & very much like the new Lancôme See you soon 🌺🌸🌹🌷
Great Review. Can you go over the color match chart. I have light skin with some redness normal to dry mature skin.? Thank you, you look lovely as always ❣️.🤗💋💯👍❗
I am a devout Estee Lauder double wear girl but since you are raving so much about this I think I have to try it. My skin is super oily everywhere so I’m very curious to see how it works for me.
Risa loved the video! That foundation looks amazing on you and just amazing! Definitely got me curious about it. I've been in the RDM family for yrs now 3 I believe and I never miss a video. I love you're taste in fashion as well as makeup. I just wanted to ask and please don't take this wrong but this is the second video of yours I've watched now of yours (know you moved filming location) where the volume as I watch on my tv and not my phone or computer, etc where I have to turn the volume way up and can still not hear like I used to or do other channels. Not complaining just letting you know I'm having an issue and it's not my TV so I wondered if anyone else is having this problem? I don't wanna miss a word you say! Lol Love & light from SC 🌹
Hi Carolyn! I actually really appreciate you telling me this. There is definitely something going on with my audio since I changed rooms. I’m still trying to figure out what the problem is since the equipment is the same.
Thank you for answering me back and so quickly. That's sweet of you but I've always felt you were sweet lol unless provoked like me...why I keep watching your videos! ❤
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I was so excited for a new foundation so onward to Sephora to try out this new find. Unfortunately, it was a total fail. No color match and it made my skin look like I have polka dot pores. I don’t have large pores, just an occasional pore that stands out. What did you use for SPF and primer?
Oh no! I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. I didn’t use any primer under this(yet) and since I had forgotten to bring my face sunscreen on the trip, I just borrowed some Neutrogena Clear Face SPF50 my aunt had.
This sounds like a perfect foundation for me! However, I'm a bit overwhelmed by their color wheel!?! So, is Haus saying that because I have dark/medium/ gold undertoned skin, I need to choose a pink undertone???
Thanks Risa you always look beautiful 🤩 this foundation sounds interesting to me. I have dry skin and redness. Do you think this foundation will be suitable for us dry skin gals not combination ? Mac always confused me with their tones. I was a warm, but my skin has pink undertones. Lol thank you for helping to explain that to me. 💜
I really want to try this foundation but the shades are confusing 😕, I'm in the UK so i don't want to get it wrong because i can't return it but so many people have been loving this foundation . Thank you for explaining the colour wheel, do you think your shade worked for you Risa
Have you done Cliniques makeup? I have oily skin but haven’t tried Haus foundation or concealer yet. I’ve had reaction to some of their eye products so was scared to try the foundation.
Hmm…how so? When was the last time I mentioned a holy grail foundation? I feel like I’m always talking about the same few, which are the ones mentioned in the video.
They are! Although I’m failing to see how I have a new one every week. I can’t remember the last time I was THIS excited about a foundation! Edited to add: I did rave about the new Hourglass and Lancôme, but that was over a month ago, and they are ALL so good. I always put a question mark in my titles because I’m never really certain if something is indeed a holy grail, because new products are always dropping!
Hi, I ordered this foundation and the website asked me to list the foundation shades I use now that are good and it matches you from that. It's like a foundation finder. I use EL double wear in Bone and chanel in BD11. X
Thanks so much for this video Risa! 😊 I’m sure I would have chosen the wrong shade with your clarification. I’m excited to try this now! Have a wonderful day!
Hi I'm Loretta De Los Rios using Frank's account to make this comment with his permission. 🙏⚘👍🤲🎈🎶🎸🙂👋 Where did you get your elfit? I like it. I do not like foundation but I think I'm going to try this one. Thank you.
I tried the Sephora shade finder and it couldn’t match me. I don’t have a Sephora near me. Any help would be appreciated … I’d like to order. I’m typically a warm neutral (charlotte tilbury 6.5 in Hollywood Flawless or a Patagonia in Nars light reflecting)
I did the foundation color finder on Sephora and it says for someone who ever Estee Lauder Double wear 2N1 Desert Beige, to wear light medium peach, i'm a light neutral olive and the models they use for that color are obviously much darker than me. I always thought I was around the same skin tone as Lady Gaga as well. I'm also a light skin Italian but we aren't. I guess I need to go in and try it . Unfortunately I live out in the country and the closest Sephora we have are at Kohl's which is 30 mins away and their very limited in their selection.
The Sephora shade finder has never been correct for me either. My guess is that in a few days more review videos will pop up form creators that maybe received a few shades in a PR package, and you’ll be able to see more swatches.

It’s not neutralized. It’s neutral cool or neutral warm. I just looked on the web site because I wanted to know that also. ;-)
I just ordered this foundation and now I’m even MORE excited for it to arrive 😁.
Looks gorgeous on you!

I am sooo happy to get a review of this from u! Also will u be trying the new milk makeup future fluid all over cream concealer??!!
Oh, the concealer is so good on my 49 yo skin! I hope she does a review.
@@ariannefowler455 oh so good to hear! Thank u! I received mine Friday or Saturday but haven't tried it yet. I hope she does one too!!! Thx again! 🙌💜
Excited cause I also love Mac fix fluid and Giorgio Armani so I have hope for this!
Thank u so much Risa!!!! 💜🙌
Thanks ❤
I may have lost a piece, but which shades are you wearing in the video? I need to choose among the 160 and the 110..
Well. I’ve got to make a Sephora trip! Thanks Risa
Hallo, oh nice. I will have to pick it up. Do you like it better than the hourglass one?
Lol you are my go to Risa! I paused your video half way and went to the Sephora website and bought this foundation lol I pretty much buy everything you recommend, if only you made commission on my purchases lol love ya!!!
Hi Lesley! I hope you love the foundation as much as I do! I actually can make a slight commission if you use the links provided in the description box. It’s small, but every purchase adds up and helps to keep my channel going, as I’m not on many PR lists so I buy 95% of what I talk about in my videos myself.
@@RisaDoesMakeup do these links work from Canada as well? But I definitely will use if possible! Hugs!
Hello Risa 😊Lovely lovely foundation and your background is really nice too 😊👍👍💚💚💚
Good evening Risa it looks like a very good foundation I watch Steff review it the other day & she also said it was amazing & very much like the new Lancôme
See you soon 🌺🌸🌹🌷
Great Review. Can you go over the color match chart. I have light skin with some redness normal to dry mature skin.? Thank you, you look lovely as always ❣️.🤗💋💯👍❗
I hope its good, I have very oily skin and I've just ordered it. X
I am a devout Estee Lauder double wear girl but since you are raving so much about this I think I have to try it. My skin is super oily everywhere so I’m very curious to see how it works for me.
Just a warning it will not keep you looking as matte, but this one is far more skin-like than the DW.
What is the best setting spray for oily skin?
Great explanation of the product and color chart.
I need this, but definitely need to go in store for shade match. Risa, what color do you wear in the Rare Beauty powder?
Lol
Love & light from SC 🌹
I bought it cosmetics based on your rec and I love it! Looking back, I think it looks a bit better on you than the haus one, but still looks greatZ
It Cosmetics? Are you thinking of another content creator because I’ve never been a fan of their foundations. 🤷♀️
This sounds like a perfect foundation for me! However, I'm a bit overwhelmed by their color wheel!?! So, is Haus saying that because I have dark/medium/ gold undertoned skin, I need to choose a pink undertone???
I’m actually interested in trying some stuff from this line. If I’m not mistaken she revamped it a bit…?
Absolutely stunning 😍
I’ve never been a very a big fan of Clinique overall, but I do think a few of their products are decent,
The light and dark shades of blonde hair. Are placed perfectlly.. Hi-Lo lite?Bioalge?
Hello Risa....Do you like the Haus Labs foundation more than the HG ambient soft glow?
I find the Haus Labs to be slightly more natural looking and my color match is better.
to be entirely fair risa has a new holy grail every week or so
True, although these companies have upped the antenna on foundations. So many are fantastic!
I am 63 w/ very oily skin and if there IS a holy grail- even a minute old- I want to know about it!🧐
@@RisaDoesMakeup I just placed an order for it, she may be also referring to me, I ADORE a new foundation, it just lifts my mood!!
Hi, I ordered this foundation and the website asked me to list the foundation shades I use now that are good and it matches you from that. It's like a foundation finder. I use EL double wear in Bone and chanel in BD11. X
On Sephora or Hauslabs? Sadly the Sephora foundation finder has NEVER been correct for me.
@@RisaDoesMakeup sent you the link on Instagram.
Thanks so much for this video Risa! 😊
I’m sure I would have chosen the wrong shade with your clarification. I’m excited to try this now!
Have a wonderful day!
Hi I'm Loretta De Los Rios using Frank's account to make this comment with his permission.
🙏⚘👍🤲🎈🎶🎸🙂👋
Where did you get your elfit?
How does this compare to the new NARS?
Risa! I live in Havasu! That would have been so cool if I got to see you out and about! 😘
Thanks for sharing your makeup tips and greetongs from Mexico
You’ re very pretty and nice person
@@RisaDoesMakeup thank you , i'll look for it
On my way to Sephora now!!
Guess I will have to try. I have oily skin too. It can be a struggle. Especially at 50 lol
