This was my favourite presentation in terms of technique so far. Short and to the point. Just showing the features and banging through them with short insightful examples of where they can be useful. So much great info packed into 11 minutes . Thank you !
Mixer is software perfection! It has the user in mind, gives all the features you might want and presents them in a flawless intuitive way. It's like a benchmark I wished others would aim at. And then it's for free? Cant thank Tim and the quixel crew enought. Thank you soooo much.
You guys are doing a fantastic job with these tutorials. They are logically structured and no assumptions are made that we already are familiar with how to use mixer's features. Very beginner friendly. Thank you!
I can't wait to start with these! I have been an old lover of quixel but after a break, I just discovered, that they are free for unreal now and have so many materials with bridge!.😊 Can't wait to start again!
Great Tutorial, well paced, and explanative without assuming the user already knows even the minor functions. Switched to this from substance and not disappointed.
Absolutely amazing.. Quixel Suite and especially Mixer is one of my favorite application to play around with before I export anything to my scenes. Really powerful content.
Been using Autodesk Mudbox to paint my 3D models. Not anymore. Still love Maya, but Mixer is now my go to model texturing tool. Thank you for this awesome software and tutorial.
Is there a chance we'll have stroke controls - at the very minimum - for the plane view when using a custom mesh? I was surprised this function wasn't working in that view while it does when the default plane itself is loaded. Definitely a big usability need, and perhaps a functional compromise when hopefully waiting for actual 3D painting stroke controls.
It will need a lot more than that, but its definitely a good start. They need to get back their NDO and DDO capability, ease of use. Substance does have one big advantage atm which is parametric materials with their own unique properties based on what was made in designer.
Quixel has potential but atm it is far far behind substance painter, there is a lot of basics features that Quixel don't has that make it hard to use in production! What make Quixel attractive right now is because of its free library for UE4 users beside that, it is really feature poor as texturing program! In terms of perfomance Substance Painter is solid, responsive and fast than Quixel when you have a lot of layers! in terms of UI/UX substance has advantage, you can change that to fit your workflow and set your own keyboard shortcuts, in terms of workflow and adaptation this is crucial..! I hope they improve it more and support basics features! Please Quixel team, when importing mesh into Quixel, conserve its orientation instead of using Unity default orientation!
Long before that, proper and fluid tablet support is needed. Texturing without proper pen pressure and functionality is a nono. Currently, it has potential, but its lightyears behind substance painter in multiple aspects. Its not usable in any serious pipeline still. The program is great, but it still needs to unlock its potential that is currently held back. As for baking, baking is not where SP shines, it can do it well, but Marmoset Toolbag is something to match for baking. Baking is not the feature that would make mixer more competetive imo. Its all the other basic stuff they still need to add.
How do you do a rake stroke, such as having a single stitch brush, and having the angle of the brush follow the direction of your stroke, so that you can create stitches? Is that possible with Mixer?
hi, i'm struggling with custom shape displacements. even its 2x2 m plane fbx from blender, displacement paint doesn't work properly, where am i doing wrong?
Yo! I'm quite new to texturing, could someone tell me if it's possible to "mirror" draw on the model? What I want is that when drawing on one half of the model, the same thing happens on the other. Thanks!
Not sure if this is what you're talking about but.. 1. Create Solid Layer (Or add surface) 2. Add mask stack on that layer (Keyboard shortcut is "K") 3. Click the mask and in the properties panel on the right click the mask component icon (square with circle inside) 4. Select "Curvature" and in the new Curvature modifier, click Default Curvature and set it to edges only and you're done.
If I’m understanding the question right, you can add a solid color layer to the layer stack, then you can apply a paintable mask to it and paint in (or out) as you need. Then, you can continue to tweak and adjust your albedo, roughness, Metal was, etc. at any point.
2nd of November in 2020. It seems to go all glitchy with Paint if you undo a fair amount. Still wondering why we can't just drag and drop the PBR details into Paint instead of masking.
Absolutely! The resolution adjustment in this video is referring to painting only. Upon export, you can set the resolution to whatever your project needs. You can also use lower LODs for 3D assets if your project needs it.
Looks nice! Quick question: when will Quixel support non 1:1 texture aspect ratios? For example if someone has some long 4:1 ratio metal fence asset for a game that the person wants to texture using megascans/quixel?
I've got a pretty good pc but painting in Mixer is a pain, how do I describe it in English.. it's like lagging in game. I've set the tessellation to lowest and everything else
This is all very cool and all and i love the program, but without proper and fluid tablet support asap this wont be the goto for artists. Its immense potential is only limited by that facter still currently imo. Painting without proper tablet support doesnt make any sense for any serious texturing work.
I had a issue when i was mask painting a surface of a 3d asset in 3d view it was not painting but was painting in plane view. Can someone tell the reason of it. I use laptop btw with amd card(rx 560x or rx 460..) also amd cpu 2500u
Its very limited, also navigating around with pen is still not fully functional. Very unfortunate. It makes the program all smokes and mirrors for any serious texture painting.
This is so cool, but i worry in a year it'll be all redundant when the interface completely changes, (happened a lot already, including bridge), but lets hope not!
sorry, but this is 3 years old. I don't know how you expect new users to learn the program. Seriously. If I just try to start by loading one of the basic plane, cube, sphere, etc... there's no way to follow your instructions. Firstly, after applying the painting layer, this weird directional brush appears, and there's no way to change the directionality. What's worse, the SET COLOR values are all locked, so there is no way to change those color values. It's just bizarre. You have to update your tutorials, otherwise there's no way for visual learners to figure this out.
"This looks fun" **Installed and open Mixer** **Stares at it for 10 whole minutes trying to figure out how the hell do you import your model** **Closes Mixer** "That was fun"

This is one of the most powerful tools in Mixer, I used it to create weapons of different metals and with different embellishments from a single mesh.

Love this kind of tutorials where you show point by point, keep them coming like this Quixel!
You guys are doing a fantastic job with these tutorials. They are logically structured and no assumptions are made that we already are familiar with how to use mixer's features. Very beginner friendly. Thank you!
9:43 - love that you guys took this shift click from Adobe / Photoshop. It's very intuitive.

Hi Quixel!
Just leaving a mark here, that I love your work. Thans.
This Is the one vídeo I Was waiting for, thanks!!
Dear God! This is freaking Brilliant!!!! Thank you !
What about symmetry painting? And also what about Quixel Suite library of brushes? It was far bigger.
Clear and efficient ,thank u for this pertinent tutorial
and now i love it
it works for you? I'm going crazy myself, everything else works but the straight line shortcut and Idk what to do
Quixel did it again.
Our heroes!
Been using Autodesk Mudbox to paint my 3D models. Not anymore. Still love Maya, but Mixer is now my go to model texturing tool. Thank you for this awesome software and tutorial.
This is soo cool! Thanks Quixel.
what if the brush doesnt paint where i click but somewhere else??

It's really what i need!!
fantástico, gracias quixel. Thank you so much.
Perfect!!! Thanks Quixel and Epic!
Mixer powerhouse lets gooo!
Would great to have a feature in which you can apply a move transform on what you painted!
Can't you just use projection, in the mask stack of the paint layer, in freeform mode and play with the offset ?
Bruh I didn't realize how powerful this tool was until now.
i'm just waiting for the day that they incorporate baking. that'll be the beginning of the end for substance painter.
Maybe add even more channels like SSS, Opacity, Emissive...
It will need a lot more than that, but its definitely a good start. They need to get back their NDO and DDO capability, ease of use. Substance does have one big advantage atm which is parametric materials with their own unique properties based on what was made in designer.
@@Ro3D_DigitalInsights if they add opacity and emissive and the ability to paint full rgb decals that would be insane !!!!!!!!!!!

How are we supposed to achieve symmetry with this program?
Perfect 👌

Mixer just save my life
Hello! Do you guys know if in order to paint on a mesh you have to uv unwrap it like on Blender? ✌️
hi, i'm struggling with custom shape displacements. even its 2x2 m plane fbx from blender, displacement paint doesn't work properly, where am i doing wrong?
Yo! I'm quite new to texturing, could someone tell me if it's possible to "mirror" draw on the model? What I want is that when drawing on one half of the model, the same thing happens on the other. Thanks!
How can I have a color selector window on? It's too much hassle to open color selector every time I want to change color for a handpainting.
Does this app support pen pressure when you use a wacom tablet?
To think I wasted 6 months paying for substance when this program is so much more than what the industry guys let on!!
Is there a feature that would let your paint textures for hard surface models like the sharp edges or bevels? Thanks.
Not sure if this is what you're talking about but..
1. Create Solid Layer (Or add surface)
2. Add mask stack on that layer (Keyboard shortcut is "K")
3. Click the mask and in the properties panel on the right click the mask component icon (square with circle inside)
4. Select "Curvature" and in the new Curvature modifier, click Default Curvature and set it to edges only and you're done.
Thank you for the input. I will be looking in to it.
Is there a way to make brush align normal to surface orientation?
Is there a way to fill a layer with all of our settings of our paint channels?

How to paint on the UV map in Quixel Mixer? like 2d painting and not on the model..?
2:10 how do we walkarong (whıch keyframe)
Can someone please help me out. When I use the paint brush it forces symmetry on the object. how can I disable it?
Which button works for painting? I tried many keys but I couldn't do it. Please, help!
The ear texture is so realistic
Can i use quixel texture/assest for mobile games by lowering the resolution?
Absolutely! The resolution adjustment in this video is referring to painting only. Upon export, you can set the resolution to whatever your project needs. You can also use lower LODs for 3D assets if your project needs it.
ahh... i love this, finally my pc cant even handle substance painter so i use this
Can you draw with a Wacom tablet? I read that was not possible some years ago.. Is it now?
Looks nice! Quick question: when will Quixel support non 1:1 texture aspect ratios? For example if someone has some long 4:1 ratio metal fence asset for a game that the person wants to texture using megascans/quixel?
Loved it!
How do you paint on uvs??
Wth I didn’t know this was possible !?!, but where do I get custom brushes ? Or does mixer come with their own brushes ?
really not working for me. How would you paint texture on a surface? Like you have a wall and theres a thick band of paint across it?
Anchored paint mode would be nice
I've got a pretty good pc but painting in Mixer is a pain, how do I describe it in English.. it's like lagging in game. I've set the tessellation to lowest and everything else
where to get the teedy?
It’s available in the Megascans library!
How to access your save presets

Did you ever figure this out?
@@aburii123 I don't remember it
@quixel I understand that I could paint using a mouse, but that isn’t comfortable. Please do something with tablets drivers support. Thanks!
More please
Excuse me,
what's kind of this program ?
Does Mixer support Pen Pressure Sensitivity now?
Its very limited, also navigating around with pen is still not fully functional. Very unfortunate. It makes the program all smokes and mirrors for any serious texture painting.
This is -brilliant-.
Everyone at Quixel drop what you're doing and just work on getting us baking in Mixer.
>Does Mixer have touch screen support?
>Can I hide parts of the mesh when paining?
Cool
Wow
Believe me, if you are photoshop user you will learn this software within a day
can I paint normal MAP IN IT??
agastya valisetty Yes! Displacements are painted simultaneously too.
Very useful , Wish You All the Graces ^_^ !! ))))
Not able to import any 3d geometry into quixel 2020 :(
Hmmm, this shouldn't be the case. What file type are you trying to import?
👌
The immature child in me was giggling when he gave the bear a "displacement" weenie
why does painting causes so much lag, tried substance and it's not the case
please make it like ddo agai that app was lit and fun
7:01 "and click the X" -- proceeds to show an aXe
Sweet mother of god, this is cool
Is unreal only used to make ps4 games
