    Velcro has a "service life" of 20,000 uses while the 3m dual lock can only get around 150 uses before it becomes weak. That's something to consider if you plan to fasten and unfasten your stuff often.

      usually dual lock I stick on to leave for a long period of time. but yeah, that's fair enough it is stiff plastic so its not gonna last.

    • @NewMusicWeekly

      That's true for this low-profile Dual Lock. But the normal Dual Lock has a 1000-cycle lifetime.

      @@0xsergy I would like to put a power strip on the back of my rolling kitchen Island? Will it be best or Will velcro brand 10 pound heavy duty work better for constant plugging and disconnecting cords & cables and etc to the outlets???

      @@williecunningham3725 power strip fell off the underside of my cabinet after like 10 months of hanging there. i only used a couple tiny, tiny squares. like 0.5cmx1cm for a big power strip. use a bit more tape than that and it will last.
      imho this stuff holds way better than velco, velcro will be wobbly and might not hold when unplugging. I use dual lock to hold my motorcycle license plate on. 30,000 kms and 2 years in the sun and it's still on there. 4 squares in each corner of the plate, nothing crazy.

    Been there, tried that went back to Velcro. Used the dual lock in a high vibration environment and it left me with shit flying everywhere, whereas as Velcro always got loose too but not as quickly nor as abruptly as dual lock, I always have ample time to notice my Velcro retained items getting loose before they go flying off into Oblivion like dual lock did to me..... I'm sure in a steady, vibration free environment where you're not releasing the item to be retained many many multiple times, dual lock is great but as far as I'm concerned Velcro is still the king for my HD applications. Lastly even though I disagree with you, thanks for taking the time to post a video of your findings and opinions. Always great to see someone take the time to post an informative video on here. :)

    Dual Lock has many type. Don't buy the 400 type.... the "mushrooms" are very tiny and easily pull off if we pull it frequently.
    As we use it to secure battery we fall in that category. I use the 250 type, which works like a charm.

      3M doesn't recommend that the 400 be mated to itself. Rather, the strongest combination is 400 with 250: multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/998834O/3m-automotive-dual-lock-rolls-datasheet-english-germany.pdf#page=4

      When I originally put it on the USB hubs, I put a full strip on, and found I had to press too hard to get it to engage. I was worried about damaging my screen.

    • @NewMusicWeekly
      @NewMusicWeekly 4 роки тому +2

      Besides being weaker, the other downside of the low-profile version featured here is a 150-cycle lifetime rather than a 1000-cycle lifetime, meaning that it loses strength through damage much more quickly if it's regularly re-connnected.

    My local dollar store started selling this 3m dual lock velcro. It's beige color but it's 1/2 the price of the hardware stores so whatever :) What I found was trying to slide the battery back and forth is pretty much impossible. Pulling straight up it releases much easier than the industrial velcro. I use a battery strap to hold the battery down so I find this 3m dual lock stuff better than the hook and loop type velcro because the hook & loop eventually wears out.

    I was interested to learn velcro alternatives. I wouldn't say velcro sucks. For your application I agree that dual lock work can work better vs velcro. However many applications that dual lock system simply just not a viable option.

    I picked up some of those lipo condoms which I've been using on my 4" quads instead of Velcro. They've actually worked very well to keep the battery from sliding under the strap and I like how easily the battery falls out once you loosen the strap. This stuff looks good though, I'll have to get some. Thanks for the info.

  • @___xyz___
    @___xyz___ 4 роки тому +2

    They're just two different things. The dual lock requires more force to engage. The hook loop, on the other hand, is weaker, but gets caught faster, and may suffice or even be preferred on lighter objects. Dual lock is not the be-all-end-all of fastening systems as some people seem to preach.

    I suppose it all has its applications, for example I can use velcro to attach lights onto the inside of a gun safe or like how some come with pouches, holsters etc. Attached onto the inside of the safe door and is kind of almost the only option, unless there are metal areas where a magnet will work. Otherwise I'd say that this stuff sounds like it out does velcro if you're looking for a pretty permanent or longer term application. Plenty of other uses I can think of, definitely one of things that's good to keep around or to keep a roll in the drawer..

    Hi Josh,
    Personally, I use a wide rubber band on each battery, so when it gets strapped down (preferably with a rubbery strap) the battery does not slide around at all. Cheap, quick, easy...
    By the way, the vlog was good, hopefully that petty stuff is put to rest. My opinion? Hey, at least you're wearing something!:) Later...keep the good stuff coming:)

    Velcro has suffered the same fate as elastic (rubber) bands.
    The quality has dropped in proportion to the amount of cheap products available.
    Now you can get these things in the $ store it is hard to justify producing high quality products. The high quality stuff is out there but costs much more money.
    When I was installing cable in a data center a bag of 100 straps cost about $35 and had to meet very strict code, mostly about fire resistance, but they were also superior to the standard velcro you can find at consumer level.

      For wrap straps, I think Velcro is fantastic. I've never really liked it for securing things to other things, but maybe I've just been using cheap Velcro.

      Dual lock great on small things with large strips you can't get the whole length to reengage I used to attach VCRs to racing cars the best is 100mm wide High temp adhesive genuine Velcro. Try Dual Lock with Velcro loop massively strong but pretty permanent loops dont cope with parting from it

    Obviously you are not paid by Velcro. Are you being paid by 3M, i.e. the other company ? Before making a decision on which is the better I’d like to know the answer to my question.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 роки тому +1

      Like, I get it that you are suspicious of paid Influencers, but the idea that I got secretly hired by 3M to release this video back in 2017 is just hilarious to me. So for the record, no, I did not get paid by anybody to make this video. This is just my own opinion. But if you are suspicious that I got paid off, then should you also be suspicious that I am lying to you right now? Maybe just go spend $15 on a roll of dual-lock and see for yourself if it works for you.

    You spent five minutes comparing a Velcro woven hook and loop product to a molded 3M product. Velcro makes molded products as well. Why don’t you do a side by side comparison of the same product made by the two companies before you say one sucks. Or consider doing a video on his Mercedes Benz is better than Toyota.
    Sick to what you know, which is apparently not much.

    • @JoshuaBardwell

      First of all, welcome to the channel! Nice to have you here.
      Second of all, what I do know something about is how to optimize a video title so that it gets clicks. The point of this video is that hook and loop faster is not as good for this application as molded fastener. But "Hook And Loop Fastener Sucks, Molded Fastener Is Better" is a shitty title. "Velcro Sucks" is a fantastic title that gets clicks. As evidenced by the fact that you clearly have no idea about who I am or what my channel is, but you're commenting on this video. This video has over 86,000 views at this time, and is one of my top five most viewed videos ever. So trust me: the title works.
