That was a very thoughtful breakdown of the song Ryan. And considering the being he is talking about is his son (on one level at least, since the song has many levels), you hit the nail on his head. He has referenced the transformation in himself that his son brought to him in other songs.

There's a strong discourse on whether it's "Dim", or "Damn".
I'd have to look it up but there was an interview where Maynard stated it was "damn". - V
When the album came out. I thought is was damn too. Course i also misfired on half of the lyrics. But you know, 'damn my eyes if they should compromise' almost works better. Meh. Im biased.
I heard and liked "damn" better. "Damn your eyes" was an old timey curse too.

I think those are Maynard's best, what a mind on that guy. I believe it’s for his mother. The reason the song is titled 10,000 days. Yes wings for Marie is for her as well, but this felt like an angry eulogy and a wishful prayer for another moment with her. That’s what I got.
