I really enjoyed seeing this. I'm 53 but when I was a young child, I remember sticking my fingers into the wringer! Last time I ever did that. The next step was placing my tongue on the refrigerator section at the grocery market. Did that just once too! haha
My Grandfather still has one of these (actually, I think it might be the same one as seen here), and he and my Grandmother used it to wash clothing for at least as long as my dad can remember. He still only uses it to wash his clothing, and has a spare sitting up against the wall, just in case the one he uses ever dies.
It might be...using this machine actually makes the chore of washing fun! I may have to fall back to the automatic washer when it gets really cold out. I don't have any cellar or anywhere good to use the machine inside.
You really did a good job painting and fixing that maytag up!On that big blanket did you wring it twice?I know i sure would have, having much experience with wringers 2 times is allways better than once when wringing.
I'm not sure how old it is...It seems like that Maytag logo was in use beginning maybe in the late 60's or early 70's. I think this model was made exactly the same from 1939-1983 (when all the Maytag wringer machines quit being made). The older models had red plastic trim on the wringer and I think a black agitator and the Maytag logo was different but the rest of the machine stayed the same.
I have a 1939 Model E. Some of them had water pumps to pump the water out - mine is a gravity drain. My agitator is aluminum. The release lever on the wringer head is red. There is no logo on it. The newer models had bakelite agitators. There were small differences over the years - for instance the coupler between the driveshaft and the agitator on mine is steel and rubber. The newer ones used a plastic coupler.
No, it's actually the same decal...I was just real careful with the paint brush! I had a rag moistened with paint thinner to help clean up any mistakes.
Hey Chad on the wringer function. Did you have to run it through a couple times or was it that just one time? Curious. I have a machine similar to that Maytag you got there. Been wanting to use it for bigger heavier stuff that my newer machine can't quite handle. :)
By the way, there's a parts store here in Milwaukee, WI called 100,000 Parts. They have many of the parts (new old stock) for the Maytag wringers. Let me know if you want their contact info.
Awesome restoration !! Not many people have that level of skill or patience to restore such gems as this.
I have this same machine. It works great. You can't beat the Maytag wringers! Happy washing :)

I have used one of these before, my grandmother had one and I always helped her.

Yes, I just used RustOleum and a brush after sanding away the really rusty areas.

What sander did you use? We have rust in under/on the lid of our washing machine. I'd like to restore its appearance.
Love to find me one like this .
she's beautiful!
You're wringing the blanket all wrong. feed the wringer with clothes right from the washer. then you wont need a bucket to catch the wrung out water.
My XYL would kill me if I set up such a machine...
@chibomato78 There is one of the E2L's in a local thrift store here for $150. Serial number on it is 30317BK.
You have a "mr. Rogers' voice...
