What should happen is the trans child should have accommodations in a private locker room. I have a five-year-old girl and we go to lunch at this café and she was nervous to see that email was in the bathroom. It’s so hard to explain this to children. I think the best thing is just to say make a non-gender room. Everyone should feel comfortable and since a trans woman or meal is not a biological male or woman they should have a third room. I don’t feel 100% comfortable as an adult in the situation so I can’t imagine how a child must feel. Nothing against trans people at all!

The stuff they allow these days just blows my mind. It's not only unfair, it can be dangerous. The school needs to apologize to this young lady and her father. The whole scenario shouldn't have even been allowed to happen in the first place. If they wanted to accommodate this young man, they didn't have to force it on the girls in there personal space. I just want to point out that this dad wasn’t the only dad fired. Another dad was fired as well from coaching and the superintendent said “he didn’t pass a background check”. Something with the fingerprints, that dad is the chief of police in Northfield, VT. The superintendent and school board have gone nuts.

I retired from the Sanitation Department a few years ago. I was a street cleaner. From time to time during the year, I filled in for a guy who sanitized and cleaned a public men's room and ladies room. It was nice because I was unsupervised and I had a private room, where I could cook and read all day long.
About every half hour I had to check the rest rooms to make sure they were clean. When women saw me in there they did not mind because they knew the reason why I was there. Some even tipped me.
But whenever I saw a man go in the ladies room, I went right in after him and said, "HEY YOU! OUT!" I'm 6 foot and well built. Also I learned how to box in the army, never had to use it however. Every single woman from age 4 to 94 was in favor of me doing that. Men as well. Not once did anyone ever object to me doing that.
However, when the ladies room was full, which would happen from time to time, I addressed the women waiting on line saying, "Hardly anyone is in the Men's room, if you want to go in there, that's ok." In all cases they went in. It was clean and women with small children were appreciative. Women going in and using the Men's room, is totally a horse of a different color as vice a versa. I would say 95% of men are inherently Gentlemen and not one ever objected to me doing that.
But I guess I'm just an an old fuddie duddy with outdated beliefs of which one is, that males do not belong in the ladies room (with the exception of the guy who sanitizes it) or girl's locker rooms.

But I did look into the issue further, specifically a dailymail article on the subject for more context. Both of them intentionally miss gendered the trans student in question multiple times, which can be really hurtful to a trans person. Then when the daughter was told to write a apology, they doubled down saying they had nothing to apologize for. I don't believe she has malice in her heart, just genuine ignorance.
I do agree that there feelings count, but I dont think the mild comforts of the majority should be weighed in higher regard then the rights of minorities simply trying to exist. Where it stands now, states that implemented changes to allow trans people to use the locker rooms and bathrooms of there choice haven't seen any major spikes in sexual harassment or assault. its mostly an unfounded worry.
I dont think the father shouldve been fired right away, but I dont feel bad for him or the daughter either, they've doubled down in there ignorance.
This is happening to my daughter as we speak. My daughter is 16. I am going to send my letter today as a matter of fact. I just found out 2 days ago. And I am pissed. No one informed us parents of this occurring. My daughter had to tell me.
Home education's always a good option, Sir. Much safer & you can decide what your kids learn. Many other ways for socialization, also.
